Download or read book Fragmentation and Dramatic Moments written by Yifeng Sun and published by Peter Lang Incorporated, International Academic Publishers. This book was released on 2002 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the first comprehensive study in English of the art of an extraordinarily gifted Chinese writer, Zhang Tianyi, and affords an illuminating account of the most important stage in the development of modern Chinese fiction in the 1930s. It probes into Zhang's art of narrative, and elucidates the complex way in which he responded to some of the Western literary theories imported to China by firmly placing his fiction in the context of the political and social upheaval in modern Chinese history. By examining Zhang's art of narrative and that of some other writers, Fragmentation and Dramatic Moments has opened a unique vista of related literary and aesthetic issues in modern Chinese literary history.

Book Fragmentation in Ancient Greek Drama

Download or read book Fragmentation in Ancient Greek Drama written by Anna A. Lamari and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2020-08-10 with total page 734 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume examines whether dramatic fragments should be approached as parts of a greater whole or as self-contained entities. It comprises contributions by a broad spectrum of international scholars: by young researchers working on fragmentary drama as well as by well-known experts in this field. The volume explores another kind of fragmentation that seems already to have been embraced by the ancient dramatists: quotations extracted from their context and immersed in a new whole, in which they work both as cohesive unities and detachable entities. Sections of poetic works circulated in antiquity not only as parts of a whole, but also independently, i.e. as component fractions, rather like quotations on facebook today. Fragmentation can thus be seen operating on the level of dissociation, but also on the level of cohesion. The volume investigates interpretive possibilities, quotation contexts, production and reception stages of fragmentary texts, looking into the ways dramatic fragments can either increase the depth of fragmentation or strengthen the intensity of cohesion.

Book Getting Work Right Labor and Leisure in a Fragmented World

Download or read book Getting Work Right Labor and Leisure in a Fragmented World written by Michael J. Naughton and published by Emmaus Road Publishing. This book was released on 2019-09-03 with total page 149 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If we don’t get Sunday right, we won’t get Monday—or any day of the workweek—right. The divided life is a temptation so built into our society, we may not even recognize it. Yet most of us fall prey to it. We either undervalue work, resenting it as simply a job, or we overvalue it as an identity-defining career. Michael Naughton, drawing on his background in both business and theology, proposes that the key to finding balance is another important human activity: leisure. In light of leisure—not mere amusement, but time for family, silence, prayer, and above all, worship—work becomes a space where men and women can find deep fulfilment. Naughton provides real-world examples of how businesses can promote authentic human flourishment and innovation through practices and policies that support leisure. In Getting Work Right Michael Naughton will change how you work—and rest.

Book Grief and Its Transcendence

Download or read book Grief and Its Transcendence written by Adele Tutter and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-09-16 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Grief and its Transcendence: Memory, Identity, Creativity is a landmark contribution that provides fresh insights into the experience and process of mourning. It includes fourteen original essays by pre-eminent psychoanalysts, historians, classicists, theologians, architects, art-historians and artists, that take on the subject of normal, rather than pathological mourning. In particular, it considers the diversity of the mourning process; the bereavement of ordinary vs. extraordinary loss; the contribution of mourning to personal and creative growth; and individual, social, and cultural means of transcending grief. The book is divided into three parts, each including two to four essays followed by one or two critical discussions. Co-editor Adele Tutter’s Prologue outlines the salient themes and tensions that emerge from the volume. Part I juxtaposes the consideration of grief in antiquity with an examination of the contemporary use of memorials to facilitate communal remembrance. Part II offers intimate first-person accounts of mourning from four renowned psychoanalysts that challenge long-held psychoanalytic formulations of mourning. Part III contains deeply personal essays that explore the use of sculpture, photography, and music to withstand, mourn, and transcend loss on individual, cultural and political levels. Drawing on the humanistic wisdom that underlies psychoanalytic thought, co-editor Léon Wurmser’s Epilogue closes the volume. Grief and its Transcendence will be a must for psychoanalysts, psychotherapists, psychiatrists, and scholars within other disciplines who are interested in the topics of grief, bereavement and creativity.
