Book Creep Crack Growth Behavior of Aluminum Alloy 2519

Download or read book Creep Crack Growth Behavior of Aluminum Alloy 2519 written by DE. Hall and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The discipline of time-dependent fracture mechanics has traditionally focused on the creep crack growth behavior of high-temperature materials that display creep-ductile behavior, such as stainless steels and chromium-molybdenum steels. Elevated temperature aluminum alloys, however, have been developed that exhibit creep-brittle behavior; in this case, the creep crack growth rate correlates with the stress intensity factor, K. The fracture characteristics of aluminum alloy 2519-T87 were studied at 135°C, and the creep and creep crack growth behavior were characterized utilizing experimental and numerical methods.

Book Creep and High Temperature Deformation of Metals and Alloys

Download or read book Creep and High Temperature Deformation of Metals and Alloys written by Stefano Spigarelli and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2019-12-12 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By the late 1940s, and since then, the continuous development of dislocation theories have provided the basis for correlating the macroscopic time-dependent deformation of metals and alloys—known as creep—to the time-dependent processes taking place within the metals and alloys. High-temperature deformation and stress relaxation effects have also been explained and modeled on similar bases. The knowledge of high-temperature deformation as well as its modeling in conventional or unconventional situations is becoming clearer year by year, with new contemporary and better performing high-temperature materials being constantly produced and investigated. This book includes recent contributions covering relevant topics and materials in the field in an innovative way. In the first section, contributions are related to the general description of creep deformation, damage, and ductility, while in the second section, innovative testing techniques of creep deformation are presented. The third section deals with creep in the presence of complex loading/temperature changes and environmental effects, while the last section focuses on material microstructure–creep correlations for specific material classes. The quality and potential of specific materials and microstructures, testing conditions, and modeling as addressed by specific contributions will surely inspire scientists and technicians in their own innovative approaches and studies on creep and high-temperature deformation.

Book Fracture Resistance of Aluminum Alloys

Download or read book Fracture Resistance of Aluminum Alloys written by John Gilbert Kaufman and published by ASM International. This book was released on 2001-01-01 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Annotation Kaufman prevents this summary of data on the fracture characteristics of aluminum alloys, broadly based on a publication by Alcoa in 1964, Fracture Characteristics of Aluminum Alloys. Coverage includes tensile properties as indicators of fracture behavior; notched-bar impact and related tests for toughness; notch toughness and sensitivity; tear resistance; fracture toughness; the interrelation of fracture characteristics; toughness at subzero and elevated temperatures; subcritical crack growth; and metallurgical considerations in fracture resistance. Most of the data is presented in only the English/engineering units, contrary to normal ASM International and Aluminum Association, Inc. policies. The author's credentials are not stated. c. Book TIME DEPENDENT COMPRESSION PROPERTIES OF ALUMINUM ALLOY 2024 0 AT 500 F 533 K

Download or read book TIME DEPENDENT COMPRESSION PROPERTIES OF ALUMINUM ALLOY 2024 0 AT 500 F 533 K written by and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 47 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Compression creep and compression constant strain-rate tests were performed on thick wall cylindrical specimens of aluminum alloy 2024-0 at 500F (533K). Using the assumption that the equation of state of the material is a function only of stress, strain, and strain rate, the creep curves were analyzed to yield constant strain-rate, stress strain data. Comparisons between the creep-derived and the directly measured constant strain-rate data show that the data are not exactly equivalent but the discrepancies are sufficiently small so that to a first approximation the equation of state assumption can be considered valid. The data presented will be utilized in the next state of the investigation, to develop theoretical results for the Gerard Theory of Time Dependent Plastic Stability for comparison with experiments now in progress.

Book Effect of Temperature on Delayed Fracture of Aluminum Alloy 2024 in the Presence of Liquid Zinc Amalgam

Download or read book Effect of Temperature on Delayed Fracture of Aluminum Alloy 2024 in the Presence of Liquid Zinc Amalgam written by B. J. Rogus and published by . This book was released on 1963 with total page 18 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Delayed fracture studies were conducted on aluminum alloy 2024 over a temperature range of 35 to 90 F. The alloy was solution treated at 920 F for one hour, cold water quenched, and then artificially aged at 375 F for four hours. Specimens were heated to desired temperatures in a liquid test bath. The specimens were then stressed to selected levels and were wetted using a liquid 2% zinc amalgam. Times to failure at different temperature levels were then determined. Test results showed that there was no significant variationin delayed fracture behavior within the range of 35 to 190 F. This fact indicates that mechanisms basic to the delayed fracture process, for this alloy and heat treatment, are essentially independent of temperature within this temperature range. Changes in the appearance of fractured edges for wetted specimens tested at different temperatures, however, suggests that mode of crack propagation possibly is temperature related. (Author).
