Book Fractional Difference Differential Equations and Inclusions

Download or read book Fractional Difference Differential Equations and Inclusions written by Saïd Abbas and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2024-01-16 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The field of fractional calculus (FC) is more than 300 years old, and it presumably stemmed from a question about a fractional-order derivative raised in communication between L'Hopital and Leibniz in the year 1695. This branch of mathematical analysis is regarded as the generalization of classical calculus, as it deals with the derivative and integral operators of fractional order. The tools of fractional calculus are found to be of great utility in improving the mathematical modeling of many natural phenomena and processes occurring in the areas of engineering, social, natural, and biomedical sciences. Fractional Difference, Differential Equations, and Inclusions: Analysis and Stability is devoted to the existence and stability (Ulam-Hyers-Rassias stability and asymptotic stability) of solutions for several classes of functional fractional difference equations and inclusions. Some equations include delay effects of finite, infinite, or state-dependent nature. Others are subject to impulsive effect which may be fixed or non-instantaneous. The tools used to establish the existence results for the proposed problems include fixed point theorems, densifiability techniques, monotone iterative technique, notions of Ulam stability, attractivity and the measure of non-compactness as well as the measure of weak noncompactness. All the abstract results are illustrated by examples in applied mathematics, engineering, biomedical, and other applied sciences. Introduces notation, definitions, and foundational concepts of fractional q-calculus Presents existence and attractivity results for a class of implicit fractional q-difference equations in Banach and Fréchet spaces Focuses on the study of a class of coupled systems of Hilfer and Hilfer-Hadamard fractional differential equations

Book Using Time Series to Analyze Long Range Fractal Patterns

Download or read book Using Time Series to Analyze Long Range Fractal Patterns written by Matthijs Koopmans and published by SAGE Publications. This book was released on 2020-09-23 with total page 93 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Using Time Series to Analyze Long Range Fractal Patterns presents methods for describing and analyzing dependency and irregularity in long time series. Irregularity refers to cycles that are similar in appearance, but unlike seasonal patterns more familiar to social scientists, repeated over a time scale that is not fixed. Until now, the application of these methods has mainly involved analysis of dynamical systems outside of the social sciences, but this volume makes it possible for social scientists to explore and document fractal patterns in dynamical social systems. Author Matthijs Koopmans concentrates on two general approaches to irregularity in long time series: autoregressive fractionally integrated moving average models, and power spectral density analysis. He demonstrates the methods through two kinds of examples: simulations that illustrate the patterns that might be encountered and serve as a benchmark for interpreting patterns in real data; and secondly social science examples such a long range data on monthly unemployment figures, daily school attendance rates; daily numbers of births to teens, and weekly survey data on political orientation. Data and R-scripts to replicate the analyses are available on an accompanying website.

Book Stochasticity Nonlinearity and Forecasting of Streamflow Processes

Download or read book Stochasticity Nonlinearity and Forecasting of Streamflow Processes written by Wen Wang and published by IOS Press. This book was released on 2006 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Streamflow forecasting is of great importance to water resources management and flood defense. On the other hand, a better understanding of the streamflow process is fundamental for improving the skill of streamflow forecasting. The methods for forecasting streamflows may fall into two general classes: process-driven methods and data-driven methods. Equivalently, methods for understanding streamflow processes may also be broken into two categories: physically-based methods and mathematically-based methods. This thesis focuses on using mathematically-based methods to analyze stochasticity and nonlinearity of streamflow processes based on univariate historic streamflow records, and presents data-driven models that are also mainly based on univariate streamflow time series. Six streamflow processes of five rivers in different geological regions are investigated for stochasticity and nonlinearity at several characteristic timescales.

Book Monetary Policy and Issues

Download or read book Monetary Policy and Issues written by Lauren C. Williams and published by Nova Publishers. This book was released on 2006 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the 1970's, many countries were plagued by persistently high inflation rates, which were thought to cause a significant loss in economic efficiency. Since persistent inflation is considered to be ultimately the result of monetary policy, many countries in the 1990s sought institutional reforms to their central banks to prevent a return to the 1970s experience. A popular reform was to move from giving central banks multiple policy goals to a single mandate of price stability. The single mandate was accompanied by the introduction of an inflation target, in which central banks aim to keep inflation within a pre-defined numerical range. The logic behind these reforms was a belief among proponents that it would remove the political temptation to 'pump up' the economy in the short run at the expense of long-run price stability, and a belief that 'fine tuning' monetary policy in response to every change in economic conditions, was of little value. This book develops quantitative measurements to analyse the success of inflation targeting abroad by comparing both the performance of targeters to non-targeters and the performance of countries before and after targeting was adopted.

Book Causal Inference in Econometrics

Download or read book Causal Inference in Econometrics written by Van-Nam Huynh and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-12-28 with total page 626 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is devoted to the analysis of causal inference which is one of the most difficult tasks in data analysis: when two phenomena are observed to be related, it is often difficult to decide whether one of them causally influences the other one, or whether these two phenomena have a common cause. This analysis is the main focus of this volume. To get a good understanding of the causal inference, it is important to have models of economic phenomena which are as accurate as possible. Because of this need, this volume also contains papers that use non-traditional economic models, such as fuzzy models and models obtained by using neural networks and data mining techniques. It also contains papers that apply different econometric models to analyze real-life economic dependencies.

Book Statistics for Long Memory Processes

Download or read book Statistics for Long Memory Processes written by Jan Beran and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-11-22 with total page 315 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Statistical Methods for Long Term Memory Processes covers the diverse statistical methods and applications for data with long-range dependence. Presenting material that previously appeared only in journals, the author provides a concise and effective overview of probabilistic foundations, statistical methods, and applications. The material emphasizes basic principles and practical applications and provides an integrated perspective of both theory and practice. This book explores data sets from a wide range of disciplines, such as hydrology, climatology, telecommunications engineering, and high-precision physical measurement. The data sets are conveniently compiled in the index, and this allows readers to view statistical approaches in a practical context. Statistical Methods for Long Term Memory Processes also supplies S-PLUS programs for the major methods discussed. This feature allows the practitioner to apply long memory processes in daily data analysis. For newcomers to the area, the first three chapters provide the basic knowledge necessary for understanding the remainder of the material. To promote selective reading, the author presents the chapters independently. Combining essential methodologies with real-life applications, this outstanding volume is and indispensable reference for statisticians and scientists who analyze data with long-range dependence.
