Download or read book Collected Poems 1 1985 99 written by Jamie Inglis and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2019-12-05 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jamie Inglis is a poet and doctor from Edinburgh. This collection includes most of the poems published in his first three titles: the geometer's dreams (1992), fractals & mnemonics (1996) and hold On (2000). His poems are about travelling near and far, of times, places and who we are. Poems about the unexpected and the unexplained and about wars fought in our name. Poems of new words embedded in the web. He had his first poems published aged ten and after qualifying in medicine returned to writing poetry in the early 1980's. His poems reflect his interests in people, pacifism, politics, travel, science-fiction, the world we live in and the world we are creating. After travelling round the world five times he still lives in Edinburgh, First World City of Literature, and his ambition is to stand on the shoulders of giants.
Download or read book Mnemonic written by Complicité and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2024-08-12 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the most astonishing discoveries of modern times is the immensity of the past mnemonic / ni'monik / adj. 1. assisting or intended to assist memory; 2. of memory A body is found in the ice, and a woman is looking for her father while a man searches for his lost lover. This story is as much about origins as it is about memory, and remembering what is lost. As relevant in 2024 as it was in 1999, Mnemonic asks us: what is our place in the natural world? How have human relationships with the environment shaped patterns of migration? Who are we, and where do we come from? Conceived and directed by Complicité's Artistic Director and Co-founder, Simon McBurney. This edition was published to coincide with the production at the National Theatre's Olivier Theatre from June to August 2024.
Download or read book A Concise Introduction to Hypercomplex Fractals written by Andrzej Katunin and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-10-05 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents concisely the full story on complex and hypercomplex fractals, starting from the very first steps in complex dynamics and resulting complex fractal sets, through the generalizations of Julia and Mandelbrot sets on a complex plane and the Holy Grail of the fractal geometry – a 3D Mandelbrot set, and ending with hypercomplex, multicomplex and multihypercomplex fractal sets which are still under consideration of scientists. I tried to write this book in a possibly simple way in order to make it understandable to most people whose math knowledge covers the fundamentals of complex numbers only. Moreover, the book is full of illustrations of generated fractals and stories concerned with great mathematicians, number spaces and related fractals. In the most cases only information required for proper understanding of a nature of a given vector space or a construction of a given fractal set is provided, nevertheless a more advanced reader may treat this book as a fundamental compendium on hypercomplex fractals with references to purely scientific issues like dynamics and stability of hypercomplex systems.
Download or read book Fractals and Universal Spaces in Dimension Theory written by Stephen Lipscomb and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-10-28 with total page 259 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Historically, for metric spaces the quest for universal spaces in dimension theory spanned approximately a century of mathematical research. The history breaks naturally into two periods - the classical (separable metric) and the modern (not-necessarily separable metric). The classical theory is now well documented in several books. This monograph is the first book to unify the modern theory from 1960-2007. Like the classical theory, the modern theory fundamentally involves the unit interval. Unique features include: * The use of graphics to illustrate the fractal view of these spaces; * Lucid coverage of a range of topics including point-set topology and mapping theory, fractal geometry, and algebraic topology; * A final chapter contains surveys and provides historical context for related research that includes other imbedding theorems, graph theory, and closed imbeddings; * Each chapter contains a comment section that provides historical context with references that serve as a bridge to the literature. This monograph will be useful to topologists, to mathematicians working in fractal geometry, and to historians of mathematics. Being the first monograph to focus on the connection between generalized fractals and universal spaces in dimension theory, it will be a natural text for graduate seminars or self-study - the interested reader will find many relevant open problems which will create further research into these topics.
Download or read book Thinking In Patterns Fractals And Related Phenomena In Nature written by Miroslav M Novak and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2004-03-09 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fractal geometry, together with the broader fields of nonlinear dynamics and complexity, represented a large segment of modern science at the end of the 20th century. Penetration of the resulting new paradigms into practically all academic disciplines has confirmed the fundamental assertion of universal formalism common to a wide range of human endeavors. This book contains an extended article by B B Mandelbrot, reviewing his contribution to fractal geometry and outlining some unsolved problems, with illustrations especially of finance and physics. It covers a range of multidisciplinary topics — from the biology of aging, through the self-similar shape of plants, image decompression and solar magnetic fields, to sound reflection in the street. The book is a treasure trove for innovative researchers working in fields related to fractal geometry. The proceedings have been selected for coverage in:• Index to Scientific & Technical Proceedings® (ISTP® / ISI Proceedings)• Index to Scientific & Technical Proceedings (ISTP CDROM version / ISI Proceedings)• CC Proceedings — Engineering & Physical Sciences

Book excerpt: Just 23 years ago Benoit Mandelbrot published his famous picture of the Mandelbrot set, but that picture has changed our view of the mathematical and physical universe. In this text, Mandelbrot offers 25 papers from the past 25 years, many related to the famous inkblot figure. Of historical interest are some early images of this fractal object produced with a crude dot-matrix printer. The text includes some items not previously published.

Download or read book This is Not a Grail Romance written by Natalia Petrovskaia and published by University of Wales Press. This book was released on 2023-07-15 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is Not a Grail Romance provides answers to some of the most important questions surrounding the medieval Welsh Arthurian tale Historia Peredur vab Efrawc, one of the few surviving medieval Welsh narrative compositions, and an important member of the ‘Grail’ family of medieval European narratives. The study demonstrates that Historia Peredur is an original Welsh composition, rather than (as previous theories have suggested) being an adaptation of the twelfth-century French grail romance. The new analysis of the structure of Historia Peredur presented here shows it to be as complex as it has always been thought – but also more formal, and the result of intentional and intricate design. The seeming inconsistencies or oddities in Historia Peredur can be understood by reading it in its medieval Welsh cultural context, allowing the modern reader a greater appreciation of both the narrative and the culture that produced it.

Download or read book Fractal Music Hypercards and More written by Martin Gardner and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2020-10-06 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Martin Gardner's Mathematical Games columns in Scientific American inspired and entertained several generations of mathematicians and scientists. Gardner in his crystal-clear prose illuminated corners of mathematics, especially recreational mathematics, that most people had no idea existed. His playful spirit and inquisitive nature invite the reader into an exploration of beautiful mathematical ideas along with him. These columns were both a revelation and a gift when he wrote them; no one--before Gardner--had written about mathematics like this. They continue to be a marvel. This is the original 1992 edition and contains columns published from 1978-1979.
