He accepts it as such. He comes to a better sense of the Royalist tradition in both politics and living, he feels the strength of it in Spain, and its usefulness in the day-to-day of the country. Above all, he comes to realize the beautiful way the Spanish miracle is conducting itself. The Republican Cause is everywhere triumphant. There's a new Democracy out there. As peacetime flowers, Spain is flowering. in a democracy of an ideal type. There is a benevolent king. The old country has decreed some novelty in old vessels and fabrics still stained with the blood of savage conflict, and ventured into the domain of the New, as well. The investigator plunges into all this strangeness, and is charmed by what he finds. In this book, the study of poets is in collaboration with the doings of a Participant Observer as in Cultural Anthropology. At all times a true report is attempted, and editing has been drastically limited, mostly to correcting obvious solecisms or mis-steps. The principal bias will be noticeable to any reader, it is a love of Spain and of the Spanish language and of some Spanish people. The book tells a story--but the author of the book is not the author of the story. That comes from the way things are, in Soria and Baeza, in Seu de Orgell and Madrid, in the mountains and on the plains, and in the language left behind by the genius of this wonderful people

Book excerpt: The first time that we, the editors of this volume, met, a chance remark by one of us, newly returned from fieldwork in Fiji, quickly led to an animated discussion of our experiences doing anthropological research with children. Following that occasion, we began to seek each other out in order to continue such conversations, because we had found no other opportunity to discuss these significant events. We knew our experiences were rich sources of cross-cultural data and stimuli to rethinking anthro pological theory and methods. A cursory review of the literature on fieldwork revealed, to our surprise, that fieldworker's experiences with children were rarely and only briefly mentioned (Hostetler and Huntington, 1970, are an early exception). In order to learn more about research that included the ethnographers' children, we organized a conference on the topic at Michigan State University on May 1, 1982. This volume includes papers from that conference, as well as insights and ideas from the formal and informal discussions among the conference participants and audience. This volume, like the conference which preceded it, is intended to be the effects of accompanying children on anthropological an exploration of field research and on the effects of fieldwork on the children themselves. Additionally, we see this book as part of an anthropological inquiry into research as a cultural process, by which is meant the effects of the researchers' cultural identity--class, gender, age, ethnicity, and other characteristics--on fieldwork.

Key in the success of student teaching is the university supervisor. During the student teaching experience, the university supervisor is mainly responsible for helping pre-service teachers relate university coursework with the situated experiences in schools. However, much like the various other spaces and places in teacher education, facilitating teacher learning is an incredibly complex endeavor. This edited volume addresses the complexities of supervising student teachers from three distinct vantage points. First, salient issues regarding the supervision of student teachers such as the preparation of novice supervisors, negotiating power in the student teaching triad, and the low status of clinical teacher education are examined. Second, different pedagogical frameworks for the work of supervision are provided such as care theory, teacher education for democracy, and social justice. Finally, future directions for field-based teacher education are discussed, such as a call to reconsider where supervision takes place, the necessity to develop a pedagogy of supervision, 21st century trends facing clinical teacher education, and the value added by university supervisors to teacher development. Each of these chapters engage the supervision of student teachers through a mix of research, theory, and personal stories from the field. As such, this edited volume is designed for new supervisors, veteran supervisors, and supervision scholars.
