Download or read book Basics of Medical Physics written by Daniel Jirák and published by Charles University in Prague, Karolinum Press. This book was released on 2018-02-01 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The textbook Basics of Medical Physics describes the basics of medical physics and the clinical and experimental methods which a physician can be frequently encountered with. Medical physics is specific in dealing with the application of physical methods on a living organism. Therefore, it represents an interdisciplinary scientific discipline that combines physics and biological sciences. The presented textbook covers a broad range of topics; it contains eight chapters: Structure of Matter; Molecular Biophysics; Thermodynamics; Biophysics of Electric Phenomena; Acoustics and Physical Principles of Hearing; Optics; X-ray Physics and Medical Application; Radioactivity and Ionizing Radiation. The text is supplemented by many figures, which help to facilitate the understanding of the phenomena. Methods, which are explained in the book, are based on the different physical principles. Some of these methods, e.g. using optical magnifying lenses or X-rays, have been known for more than 100 years, while others are more recent such as magnetic resonance imaging or positron emission tomography. After reading this book, the readers should get a comprehensive overview of the possibilities of using various physical methods in medicine. They should be able to understand to the mentioned physical relations in the broader context.

Book Foundations of Medical Physics

Download or read book Foundations of Medical Physics written by Victor J. Montemayor and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2024-06-06 with total page 631 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Covering topics in Radiobiology, Modern Physics, Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy, Foundations of Medical Physics serves as an introduction to the field of Medical Physics, or Radiation Oncology Physics. An overview of the history of cancer and cancer treatment along with a brief introduction to the fundamental principles of Radiobiology constitute Part I of this book, which serves as the motivation for the principles of Radiation Therapy, or cancer treatment with radiation. Part II contains the fundamental ideas from Modern Physics that form the foundation for an understanding of the approaches to treatment used in Radiation Therapy. Finally, Part III shows the applications of Parts I and II to Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy. This unusual introduction to Medical Physics is aimed at undergraduate physics majors along with other science majors who have taken at least one year of Physics and one year of calculus, although Medical Physics graduate students and radiation oncology residents may find this different approach to the subject illuminating. This text assumes that the instructor is a physicist who does not necessarily have a background in Medical Physics.

Book Physics of the Human Body

Download or read book Physics of the Human Body written by Irving P. Herman and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-01-09 with total page 963 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book comprehensively addresses the physics and engineering aspects of human physiology by using and building on first-year college physics and mathematics. Topics include the mechanics of the static body and the body in motion, the mechanical properties of the body, muscles in the body, the energetics of body metabolism, fluid flow in the cardiovascular and respiratory systems, the acoustics of sound waves in speaking and hearing, vision and the optics of the eye, the electrical properties of the body, and the basic engineering principles of feedback and control in regulating all aspects of function. The goal of this text is to clearly explain the physics issues concerning the human body, in part by developing and then using simple and subsequently more refined models of the macrophysics of the human body. Many chapters include a brief review of the underlying physics. There are problems at the end of each chapter; solutions to selected problems are also provided. This second edition enhances the treatments of the physics of motion, sports, and diseases and disorders, and integrates discussions of these topics as they appear throughout the book. Also, it briefly addresses physical measurements of and in the body, and offers a broader selection of problems, which, as in the first edition, are geared to a range of student levels. This text is geared to undergraduates interested in physics, medical applications of physics, quantitative physiology, medicine, and biomedical engineering.
