And yet the editor hopes that he has gathered into a convenient and compact shape data which will furnish some capable pen the material from which to write a truer philosophy of Christian experience than has yet appeared. Among the purposes of the book are: (1) models of discriminating statements of experience; (2) checks to extravagance in religious language; (3) cautions against professing obtainments before they are reached; (4) to show the easy possibility of losing the very highest graces, and (5) the wisdom of frank and open confession of serious lapses.
