Download or read book Forty Demons written by Mark Scott-Nash and published by Snowdragon Publishing. This book was released on 2012-05 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2007 a caf owner in a small Colorado mountain town disappeared. The charismatic philosopher and expert outdoorsman walked away from the ideal life he had built in search of a greater cause. One year later Winston B. Churchill 's emaciated body was found by hikers in a remote mountain valley lying neatly outside the door of a well-stocked cabin. What he left behind was the mystery of a man compelled to undertake a fantastic journey of mental and physical extremes. He emerged as a lone voice crying in the wilderness, warning of the impending demise of civilization. Editorial Reviews Riveting! Forty Demons springs from the same "man missing in the wilderness" genre as Jon Krakauer's Into the Wild and Erik Blehm's The Last Season, but with its utterly unique and haunting story, it breaks free of all past narratives and expectations. In this exhaustively researched look into the death of Winston Branko Churchill in the Colorado wilderness, Mark Scott-Nash pulls back layer after layer of Churchill's complex personhood and the enigmatic circumstances surrounding his demise--extreme meditation, Kundalini awakenings, a controversial mining claim, the list goes on. But like Matryoshka dolls, each question Scott-Nash answers exposes a deeper mystery. I found my thoughts returning to ponder Churchill's life long after I'd finished the book. I, for one, was left believing that Churchill had found and slayed his 40 Demons. -Kristin Bjorensen, Former Editor at Backpacker Magazine and Climbing Magazine ...I read every frickin word and loved it! This is a great story that covers some tricky psychological ground in a fascinating manner. It was written like John McPhee was trying to get inside a crazy person's head. Bravo! -Alan Stark, Outdoor Publications Executive

Download or read book Demonic Spirits Have Invaded Human Bodies written by Donald R. Evans and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2024-07-06 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Denying Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God, is the greatest mistake the entire world has made in the past and present and will continue to make in the future. Without Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior in one's life, how can a person live coexisting with spirit beings known as demons, wicked spirit persons who have inhabited the earth the entire time mankind has been on earth? Yet the world lives as though we don't coexist with spirit beings, and to reject or deny the only person whom these spirit beings obey is like living without a cause. People, the world in general, it's imperative to acknowledge that demon spirits have invaded human bodies. Demonic forces, whom we can't see nor control, are in control of multitudes of human lives, which have persons in spiritual warfare with invisible demons as enemies in mankind and fighting a battle within themselves and against others like themselves. These demons, which are also named evil spirits, are in human bodies as demon control spirits, sometimes called devils as they became dominant spirit forces. Demons have been assigned to us in the body of humankind to harm, kill, and destroy lives by any means. Demons have been assigned to our children to possess as their own to harm, steal, or destroy lives and family livelihood. The power of Jesus Christ's name provides protection for all mankind in the spirit realm, believers as well as nonbelievers.

Book excerpt: This rich ethnographic study describes the nearly impossible challenge of the daily existence of women in the poor neighbourhoods of Cairo. When these women fall ill they often put the blame on beings from an invisible world that invaded their body (possession), and they seek the help of traditional healers in the Zar ceremony or Koran healing. This book examines in detail the links between cosmology, power and gender. It tackles questions such as ‘what is possession, what is being said with it, and what does society have to do with it?’. The author, who lived a long time in various poor areas of Cairo, attended many sessions of Koran healing and participated in the Zar ceremony. She observed and interviewed many possessed women, as well as healers and other ‘demon specialists’.
Download or read book The Devil Demons Judas and the Jews written by Torsten Lofstedt and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2021-11-09 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What place do the four Gospels give Satan, demons, and Jesus’ human opponents (including Jewish leaders but also Jesus’ disciples) in their accounts of Jesus’ life? This study takes a literary-historical approach to the Gospels, examining them as narratives. It shows how the authors were in the process of developing the devil as a character and determining which roles he filled. New interpretations of individual passages in the Gospels are given as well as new understandings of the theological emphases of each author. This study is also a contribution to redaction criticism and the relative chronology of the Gospels. It employs the theory of Matthean posteriority which revolutionizes our understanding of the literary relations between the Gospels and allows for a new understanding of theological development in early Christianity.

Download or read book Bedeviled written by Jimena Canales and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2020-11-10 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How scientists through the ages have conducted thought experiments using imaginary entities—demons—to test the laws of nature and push the frontiers of what is possible Science may be known for banishing the demons of superstition from the modern world. Yet just as the demon-haunted world was being exorcized by the enlightening power of reason, a new kind of demon mischievously materialized in the scientific imagination itself. Scientists began to employ hypothetical beings to perform certain roles in thought experiments—experiments that can only be done in the imagination—and these impish assistants helped scientists achieve major breakthroughs that pushed forward the frontiers of science and technology. Spanning four centuries of discovery—from René Descartes, whose demon could hijack sensorial reality, to James Clerk Maxwell, whose molecular-sized demon deftly broke the second law of thermodynamics, to Darwin, Einstein, Feynman, and beyond—Jimena Canales tells a shadow history of science and the demons that bedevil it. She reveals how the greatest scientific thinkers used demons to explore problems, test the limits of what is possible, and better understand nature. Their imaginary familiars helped unlock the secrets of entropy, heredity, relativity, quantum mechanics, and other scientific wonders—and continue to inspire breakthroughs in the realms of computer science, artificial intelligence, and economics today. The world may no longer be haunted as it once was, but the demons of the scientific imagination are alive and well, continuing to play a vital role in scientists' efforts to explore the unknown and make the impossible real.
