Book The Holy Orthodox Bible Vol I The Pentateuch

Download or read book The Holy Orthodox Bible Vol I The Pentateuch written by and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2008-01-02 with total page 309 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many may ask, "What is the Septuagint?" The Septuagint is the Greek Old Testament of the Christian Church. It was the version of the Old Testament translated from the Hebrew into Greek and was used by the Greek-speaking Jews of Alexandria before the coming of Christ. The Septuagint, more than the Hebrew Old Testament, clearly shows that the prophesies of the future Messiah refer to Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and to no other. Also, the writers of the New Testament almost exclusively quoted from the Septuagint when they quoted the Old Testament within the pages of the New Testament. This is the Septuagint, and it is now available for the first time in over 150 years in English and based on Septuagint texts that are authorized by The Holy Orthodox Church.

Book Devotion to the Nine Choirs of Holy Angels And Especially to the Angel Guardians

Download or read book Devotion to the Nine Choirs of Holy Angels And Especially to the Angel Guardians written by Henri-Marie Boudon and published by Wyatt North Publishing, LLC. This book was released on 2020-05-08 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: THIS translation of what may be called the most popular of all Boudon's works, was undertaken with the desire of furthering the holy object for which it was written. One of the chief means for spreading devotion to the Holy Angels, is the distribution of well-selected books on the subject. "This means," he writes, "includes almost all the others, since it both gives them honour and teaches it." In the absence of any treatise on the due mode of honouring these blessed spirits, it is hoped that the present publication may be found a useful contribution to our devotional literature.

Book Natural Materials of the Holy Land and the Visual Translation of Place 500 1500

Download or read book Natural Materials of the Holy Land and the Visual Translation of Place 500 1500 written by Renana Bartal and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-04-21 with total page 379 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Natural Materials of the Holy Land and the Visual Translation of Place, 500-1500, focuses on the unique ways that natural materials carry the spirit of place. Since early Christianity, wood, earth, water and stone were taken from loca sancta to signify them elsewhere. Academic discourse has indiscriminately grouped material tokens from holy places and their containers with architectural and topographical emulations, two-dimensional images and bodily relics. However, unlike textual or visual representations, natural materials do not describe or interpret the Holy Land; they are part of it. Tangible and timeless, they realize the meaning of their place of origin in new locations. What makes earth, stones or bottled water transported from holy sites sacred? How do they become pars pro toto, signifying the whole from which they were taken? This book will examine natural media used for translating loca sancta, the processes of their sanctification and how, although inherently abstract, they become charged with meaning. It will address their metamorphosis, natural or induced; how they change the environment to which they are transported; their capacity to translate a static and distant site elsewhere; the effect of their relocation on users/viewers; and how their containers and staging are used to communicate their substance.
