Download or read book Lurianics written by Michael Brodsky and published by Books We Live by. This book was released on 2018-05-04 with total page 554 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lurianics tells the story of a youngish man – one Isaac Luria (namesake of one of the world's great Kabbalists) – who seeks to create a "true work" which will give his life a meaning that is uniquely beyond label. Set on Manhattan's Upper West Side, the novel anatomizes this unlikely hero's ambivalence-racked relationships with a veritable cast of thousands, all of whom have one thing in common – a craving to derail his every attempt to get on with the job. They include: a smugly go-getting kid brother, a hyper-articulate mystery woman, and assorted bosses, co-workers, composers and filmmakers living and dead, ballet stars, murdered doormen, stuff-strutting sparrows, and honey locusts about to bloom. But chaos does not always reign supreme and in the end every encounter plays its part in forcing Luria to confront the ultimate question: Does he have the guts not just to erect his Valhalla (any fool can do that) but to erect it with the only building blocks worth a damn, i.e., the very things befouling the path?

Download or read book Narratives of Qualitative Research written by Josh Tenenberg and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-05-21 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Narratives of Qualitative Research uses a novel form of writing about how to do qualitative research called a praxis narrative. Each narrative is told from the author’s perspective in carrying out one of his past research studies in the social sciences. Told chronologically and in a first-person voice, the narratives position the reader alongside the narrator so as to vicariously experience how research happens in its situated particulars. Rather than a set of idealizations and universalized pronouncements, the author reveals what really goes on when one is in the thick of complex and challenging research studies, the points of trouble along with the successes. This will be relevant to researchers who have already undertaken one or more empirical research studies (though not necessarily using qualitative approaches) and now find themselves facing something new: a new analytic method, a new theoretical lens, a new form of data collection, a new domain of research questions, a new rhetorical approach. This requires letting go of the secure handholds of prescribed methods and responding to the contingencies that arise in the midst of the research. The reader is invited to follow along as the author makes visible his praxis of qualitative research. Unlike more conventional texts, in this unique alternative, the reader can follow the author's journey through his research studies as a way to reorient their conception of qualitative research and their own praxis of it. This is fascinating reading for qualitative researchers and students taking qualitative research courses, across the social sciences, education, and behavioural sciences.

Words come to me sometimes in the middle of the night even, so I keep paper and pens handy because I know time is very short to get them written before they're gone from my mind. I am so grateful and so in awe of this precious gift. I hope to glorify God with it.

Download or read book A Rose Without a Thorn written by Marilyn Kohinke Washburn and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2013-07 with total page 533 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Rose Without a Thorn, by Marilyn Kohinke Washburn, offers a powerful and intriguing look inside the tumultuous; and too often, bloody Royal Court of King Henry VIII. Set in 16th century England, King Henry's kingdom is in the throes of the Protestant Reformation, while his Royal Court is in desperate search of a new Queen and male heir to secure the Tudor line. King Henry has already divorced his first wife and beheaded his second, causing many ladies of his court to pray he does not set his cap for them. Nevertheless powerful patriarchs of both Protestant and Catholic factions at court are in strong pursuit of King Henry to marry a woman of their own choosing and beget a male heir by her, whether or not the woman they choose wishes to wed King Henry VIII. In a time when religious freedom was nonexistent, and when women were still considered their husband's property, timeless motivators such as love, hate, greed, jealousy, betrayal, and hubris were very much in existence. The stage is thus set for the rise and fall of many powerful courtiers close to King Henry VIII, including those he once passionately vowed his enduring love for. King Henry VIII had a tumultuous reign, where many heads rolled, culminating in a bloody finale for all those who crossed his unforgiving path. In this fascinating offering of historical fiction, get a closer look at a vengeful Henry VIII and the men and women behind his powerful throne as they rose and fell at the vain and whimsical mercy of tyrant, who ruled absolutely.
Download or read book Gods Ghosts Collection written by Cynthia D. Witherspoon and published by Next Chapter. This book was released on 2022-07-03 with total page 1273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All four books in 'Gods & Ghosts', a series of contemporary fantasy novels by T.H. Morris and Cynthia D. Witherspoon, now in one volume! Gods & Ghosts: Jonah Rowe knew that he didn't know everything about his abilities as an 11th Percenter - a human who could access the power of their auras. But he knew enough to not believe in the myths of the Greek Gods. Those were stories for kids and Hollywood. Eva McRayne wanted nothing more than to get back to her Hollywood life after a senseless tragedy derailed it. So when she and her film crew went to Rome, North Carolina to film an episode for her show, Grave Messages, she had no idea that she was walking straight into a trap. One that only Jonah Rowe could help her escape from. Gods & Thieves: Eva never thought in a million years she could get kidnapped. Maybe what the books said about Greek heroes and hubris had a point. She was too good of a fighter. There was no way Ares could get his hands on her. Jonah Rowe was willing to work with anyone or anything to get Eva back home. Even if that meant working with the Devil himself. He had no idea that he was falling right into the plans that Hades had for him. For Eva. Jonah was done being the hero. He would take what he wanted. Live how he wanted. The rest of the world be damned. Gods & Reapers: After Joey gets seriously injured, Eva is beside herself. She's the first to admit it: Joey Lawson is more than just her cameraman. He's her brother; the one solid through her time as the Sibyl. She couldn't give up on him, despite the threats that the spirit of his attacker piled on her head. So she ran to Jonah Rowe, the man who had become her best friend and savior. But Jonah has trouble of his own in the form of Mary Anne Greene, the country sweetheart he had met on the road to be with Eva. And the longer the two of them are around each other, the harder Jonah has fallen for her. But the sweet Mary Anne isn't all that she seems to be, and Eva knows it. She can feel it. And by the gods, if Jonah is hurt by this woman, there will be hell to pay. Gods & Monsters: Eva had gone from one fire straight into another. After her run-in with a deranged Spirit Reaper and Persephone, she was sure that returning to filming the episodes for Grave Messages would be a vacation. How could she possibly get into any more trouble than she'd already been in? But there was something much worse on the horizon. Much darker. Much more dangerous. Poveglia Island.

Download or read book Volpone Or The Fox written by Ben Jonson and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2024-09-19 with total page 382 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volpone, Or, The Fox is Ben Jonson's great parable of greed, self-interest and inheritance. Using animal fable to satirize the wealthy and the greedy, it remains one of his most distinctive and compelling dramatic works. Jonson wrote the play for performance in 1606, and orchestrated its publication the following year. In it, the wealthy Venetian Volpone pretends to be on his deathbed, encouraging Voltore, Corbaccio and Corvino-the vulture, raven and crow-to compete for his fortune. With unflinching harshness and biting humour, Jonson portrays a society damningly hollowed out by over-monetization. This edition has been prepared by leading textual expert, John Jowett. With incisive scholarship, he explores the play's craftsmanship and examines how theatre practitioners and critics engage with it. Detailed notes explicate an authoritative text and breathe new life into it for readers today. Arden Early Modern Drama editions offer the best in contemporary scholarship, providing a wealth of helpful and incisive commentary to guide the reader through a deeper understanding and appreciation of the play. This edition provides: A clear and authoritative text Detailed on-page commentary notes A comprehensive, illustrated introduction to the play's historical, cultural and performance contexts A bibliography of references and further reading
Download or read book Boatlines written by Ian Stephen and published by Birlinn Ltd. This book was released on 2023-03-02 with total page 315 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: People are drawn to the harbours and boats of Scotland whether they have a seafaring background or not. Why do boats take on different shapes as you follow the complex shorelines of islands and mainland? And why do the sails they carry appear to be so many shapes and sizes? Then there are rowing craft or power-driven vessels which can also be considered 'classics', whether they were built for work or leisure. As he traces the iconic forms of a selection of the boats of Scotland, Ian Stephen outlines the purposes of craft, past and present, to help gain a true understanding of this vital part of our culture. Sea conditions likely to be met and coastal geography are other factors behind the designs of a wide variety of craft. Stories go with boats. The vessels are not seen as bare artefacts without their own soul but more like living things.
