Book New and Revised Stratigraphic Names in the Santa Rita Mountains of Southeastern Arizona

Download or read book New and Revised Stratigraphic Names in the Santa Rita Mountains of Southeastern Arizona written by Harald Drewes and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent work provides the basis for establishing a stratigraphic column in the Santa Rita Mountains of Santa Cruz and Pima Counties of southeastern Arizona. Thirteen formations of this column are here defined and one is revised. One new formation is a Precambrian granodiorite. Ten new formations are Mesozoic units that include plutonic, volcanic, and continental sedimentary rocks. The revised formation is the Upper Cretaceous Fort Crittenden Formation of Stoyanow (1949), dominantly a sedimentary unit. Two new formations are volcanic and sedimentary rocks of Tertiary age. Many radiometric dates supplement the sparse fossil record in corroborating or redefining the ages that had been assigned to many units on the basis of their geologic relations and in establishing the ages of other units.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fort Bowie, in present-day Arizona, was established in 1862 at the site of the famous Battle of Apache Pass, where U.S. troops clashed with Apache chief Cochise and his warriors. The fort’s dual purpose was to guard the invaluable water supply at Apache Spring and to control Indians in the developing southwestern region. Douglas C. McChristian’s Fort Bowie, Arizona, spans nearly four decades to provide a fascinating account of the many complex events surrounding the small combat post. In a sweeping narrative, McChristian presents Fort Bowie in fresh contexts of national expansion and regional development, weaving in threads of early exploration, transcontinental railroad surveys, the overland mail, mining, ranching, and the conflict with the Apaches.

Book The Sedimentary Basins of the United States and Canada

Download or read book The Sedimentary Basins of the United States and Canada written by Andrew Miall and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2008-12-03 with total page 626 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years there have been rapid strides in our understanding of plate-tectonic processes, many developments in methods of basin analysis, and the accumulation of much new surface and subsurface geological and geophysical data. Projects such as COCORP (in the United States) and Lithoprobe (in Canada) have provided essential insights into the deep crustal structure of the continent. Synthesis of all the available information about North America’s geological regions has not been attempted systematically since the “Decade of North American Geology project undertaken by the Geological Society of America and the Geological Survey of Canada nearly twenty years ago. The book commences with a summary of the Phanerozoic geological history of the United States and Canada, illustrated with a suite of new paleogeographic maps, and tying in each of the subsequent regional chapters by the inclusion of numerous cross-references. This followed by a set of fifteen regional syntheses of the principal tectonic regions of the United States and Canada, focusing on the stratigraphic and tectonic history of the major sedimentary basins. Most of these chapters have been contributed by specialists, drawing on their own research, and providing interpretive summaries of a type not previously attempted. Up-to-date synthesis of the sedimentary/tectonic history of the major areas of the United States and Canada Up-to-date references Many new color maps
