It offers the basic knowledge of elliptic modular forms necessary to understand recent developments in number theory. It also treats the unit groups of quaternion algebras, rarely dealt with in books; and in the last chapter, Eisenstein series with parameter are discussed following the recent work of Shimura.

Book Modular Forms

  • Author : Henri Cohen
  • Publisher : American Mathematical Soc.

Download or read book Modular Forms written by Henri Cohen and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2017-08-02 with total page 714 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The theory of modular forms is a fundamental tool used in many areas of mathematics and physics. It is also a very concrete and “fun” subject in itself and abounds with an amazing number of surprising identities. This comprehensive textbook, which includes numerous exercises, aims to give a complete picture of the classical aspects of the subject, with an emphasis on explicit formulas. After a number of motivating examples such as elliptic functions and theta functions, the modular group, its subgroups, and general aspects of holomorphic and nonholomorphic modular forms are explained, with an emphasis on explicit examples. The heart of the book is the classical theory developed by Hecke and continued up to the Atkin–Lehner–Li theory of newforms and including the theory of Eisenstein series, Rankin–Selberg theory, and a more general theory of theta series including the Weil representation. The final chapter explores in some detail more general types of modular forms such as half-integral weight, Hilbert, Jacobi, Maass, and Siegel modular forms. Some “gems” of the book are an immediately implementable trace formula for Hecke operators, generalizations of Haberland's formulas for the computation of Petersson inner products, W. Li's little-known theorem on the diagonalization of the full space of modular forms, and explicit algorithms due to the second author for computing Maass forms. This book is essentially self-contained, the necessary tools such as gamma and Bessel functions, Bernoulli numbers, and so on being given in a separate chapter.

Book Algebraic and Arithmetic Theory of Quadratic Forms

Download or read book Algebraic and Arithmetic Theory of Quadratic Forms written by Ricardo Baeza and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2004 with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This proceedings volume contains papers presented at the International Conference on the algebraic and arithmetic theory of quadratic forms held in Talca (Chile). The modern theory of quadratic forms has connections with a broad spectrum of mathematical areas including number theory, geometry, and K-theory. This volume contains survey and research articles covering the range of connections among these topics. The survey articles bring readers up-to-date on research and open problems in representation theory of integral quadratic forms, the algebraic theory of finite square class fields, and developments in the theory of Witt groups of triangulated categories. The specialized articles present important developments in both the algebraic and arithmetic theory of quadratic forms, as well as connections to geometry and K-theory. The volume is suitable for graduate students and research mathematicians interested in various aspects of the theory of quadratic forms.

Book Automorphic Forms And Shimura Varieties Of Pgsp 2

Download or read book Automorphic Forms And Shimura Varieties Of Pgsp 2 written by Yuval Z Flicker and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2005-08-15 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The area of automorphic representations is a natural continuation of studies in the 19th and 20th centuries on number theory and modular forms. A guiding principle is a reciprocity law relating infinite dimensional automorphic representations with finite dimensional Galois representations. Simple relations on the Galois side reflect deep relations on the automorphic side, called “liftings.' This in-depth book concentrates on an initial example of the lifting, from a rank 2 symplectic group PGSp(2) to PGL(4), reflecting the natural embedding of Sp(2,≤) in SL(4, ≤). It develops the technique of comparing twisted and stabilized trace formulae. It gives a detailed classification of the automorphic and admissible representation of the rank two symplectic PGSp(2) by means of a definition of packets and quasi-packets, using character relations and trace formulae identities. It also shows multiplicity one and rigidity theorems for the discrete spectrum.Applications include the study of the decomposition of the cohomology of an associated Shimura variety, thereby linking Galois representations to geometric automorphic representations. To put these results in a general context, the book concludes with a technical introduction to Langlands' program in the area of automorphic representations. It includes a proof of known cases of Artin's conjecture.

Book Families of Automorphic Forms and the Trace Formula

Download or read book Families of Automorphic Forms and the Trace Formula written by Werner Müller and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-09-20 with total page 581 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Featuring the work of twenty-three internationally-recognized experts, this volume explores the trace formula, spectra of locally symmetric spaces, p-adic families, and other recent techniques from harmonic analysis and representation theory. Each peer-reviewed submission in this volume, based on the Simons Foundation symposium on families of automorphic forms and the trace formula held in Puerto Rico in January-February 2014, is the product of intensive research collaboration by the participants over the course of the seven-day workshop. The goal of each session in the symposium was to bring together researchers with diverse specialties in order to identify key difficulties as well as fruitful approaches being explored in the field. The respective themes were counting cohomological forms, p-adic trace formulas, Hecke fields, slopes of modular forms, and orbital integrals.

Book Harmonic Analysis Group Representations Automorphic Forms and Invariant Theory

Download or read book Harmonic Analysis Group Representations Automorphic Forms and Invariant Theory written by Jian-Shu Li and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2007 with total page 446 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume carries the same title as that of an international conference held at the National University of Singapore, 9-11 January 2006 on the occasion of Roger E. Howe's 60th birthday. Authored by leading members of the Lie theory community, these contributions, expanded from invited lectures given at the conference, are a fitting tribute to the originality, depth and influence of Howe's mathematical work. The range and diversity of the topics will appeal to a broad audience of research mathematicians and graduate students interested in symmetry and its profound applications.

Book Representation Theory and Automorphic Forms

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The lectures from a course in the representation theory of semi- simple groups, automorphic forms, and the relations between them. The purpose is to help analysts make systematic use of Lie groups in work on harmonic analysis, differential equations, and mathematical physics; and to provide number theorists with the representation-theoretic input to Wiles's proof of Fermat's Last Theorem.
