Book Corporate Strategic Planning

Download or read book Corporate Strategic Planning written by Noel Capon and published by Columbia University Press. This book was released on 1987 with total page 504 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An epic spanning more than half a century of Taiwan's history, this breathtaking historical novel traces the fortunes of the Pengs, a family of Hakka Chinese settlers, across three generations from the 1890s, just before Taiwan was ceded to Japan as a result of the Sino-Japanese war, through World War II. Li Qiao brilliantly re-creates the dramatic world of these pioneers -- and the colonization of Taiwan itself -- exploring their relationships with the aboriginal peoples of Taiwan and their struggle to establish their own ethnic and political identities. This carefully researched work of fiction draws upon Li's own experiences and family history, as well as oral and written histories of the era. Originally published in Chinese as a trilogy, this newly translated edition is an abridgement for English-speaking readers and marks the work's first appearance in the English-speaking world. It was well-received in Taiwan as an honest -- and influential -- recreation of Taiwan's history before the relocation of the Republic of China from the mainland to Taiwan. Because Li's saga is so deeply imbued with the unique culture and complex history of Taiwan, an introduction explaining the cultural and historical background of the novel is included to help orient the reader to this amazingly rich cultural context. This informative introduction and the sweeping saga of the novel itself together provide an important view of Taiwan's little known colonial experience.

Download or read book Formal Strategic Planning in highly uncertain and dynamic environments written by Franz-Joseph Reisner and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2015-02-23 with total page 9 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Essay from the year 2014 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, grade: A, Edinburgh Napier University (The Business School), course: Strategic Management in a Global Context, language: English, abstract: This essay will critically evaluate whether formal strategic planning is no longer an applicable approach for corporate decision-making in today's highly uncertain and dynamic business environment. In recent decades company leaders have been quite successful maneuvering their organisations through daily business and a number of economic crises by the means of formal strategic planning. Arguably, it offers several benefits on the one side, but also drawbacks on the other side. The first part of this essay will focus on the nature of formal strategic planning and its key characteristics as well as potential advantages and disadvantages. The second part will then evaluate why the formal planning approach may be perceived as not comprehensive enough in today's highly uncertain and dynamic environment, yet show how it may still be able to make crucial contributions towards sound, efficient and comprehensive corporate decision-making.

Ever since the mid-1950's, when American companies began to develop formal long-range planning systems, wise managers have understood the importance of knowing where their firm was headed and how it intended to get there. To function effectively in a modern, planned operation, every manager must have a practical understanding of how the planning process works. That's exactly what this book offers: a step-by-step guide to strategic planning. George A. Steiner, a well-known expert in the field of management, provides a concise, jargon-free handbook that avoids abstract theory and takes you straight to the how-to of planning. Whether you're designing and implementing a new plan or working with a plan that's already in operation, Strategic Planning puts the information you need at your fingertips. It takes you through every stage of the process, from idea to execution to evaluation. (And explains Fifty Common Pitfalls you'll need to know about.)You can plug your own data into the lucid charts, tables, and checklists for a valuable start on getting organized and evaluating your planning needs. And there's plenty of penetrating discussion about the questions and quandaries you're likely to meet along the way. For example: * How do you identify, evaluate, and implement strategies? * How do you design a planning system to fit the unique characteristics of you and your company? * Can an intuitive manager do formal strategic planning? * What are some ways to develop clear objectives? * What human behavior factors can endanger planning and how can managers overcome them? * How, and when, should a situation audit be made? * What do you need to know about computer models? * How can business planning lessons be applied to not-for-profit organizations? * How can managers apply lessons of planning experience to the planning of their own careers? You don't have to get an advanced degree to make strategic planning a part of your management style. All you need is the expert advice in this idea-packed handbook. (As a bonus the book includes a glossary of the terms, tools, and techniques of strategic planning.)

Book Formal and Informal Strategic Planning

Download or read book Formal and Informal Strategic Planning written by Daniel Ebner and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-12-09 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Previous research focused either on the relationship between strategic planning and performance or coordination mechanisms and performance. Therefore, a conceptually and empirically validated understanding of the interaction between these three factors is limited. This study addresses this gap in the literature by delivering three contributions to theory and empirical research: firstly, by clarifying and proposing the influences of strategic planning and strategic organization on the performance; secondly, by developing a model and associated hypotheses on both direct and interaction effects of strategic planning and coordination mechanisms; and thirdly, by testing the hypotheses. Findings regarding strategic planning suggest the coexistence of formal and informal strategic planning activities. Furthermore, results show that the relationship between strategic planning and performance is moderated by coordination mechanisms.

Book Toward a More Strategic View of Strategic Planning Research

Download or read book Toward a More Strategic View of Strategic Planning Research written by John M. Bryson and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2022-08-15 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book summarizes the current state of research on strategic planning and offers an agenda for future research. The book edition comes with a new introduction that argues that strategising by public, non-profit and business organisations should be a major focus of research. Strategising is what links aspirations, capabilities, and implementation. Strategic planning should be viewed as one approach, but not the only approach, to strategising. A focus on strategising prompts researchers to consider issues of vertical and horizontal alignment of purpose, including across sectors; competence and scalability; co-production; decision-making and change management; and trust, transparency, authenticity and accountability. Additionally, the role of various strategising techniques and information technology should be analysed further. Beyond the book’s introductory overview of the field, chapters focus on the following topics: planning styles collaboration, strategic plans, and government performance impacts of context and political responsibilities on government strategic planning efforts impacts of strategic planning in municipal governments impacts of austerity on strategic planning and government performance The chapters in this book were originally published as a special issue of the journal, Public Management Review.

Book Strategic Planning

Download or read book Strategic Planning written by Edward Robertson and published by . This book was released on 2019-09-11 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why do so many strategic plans end up collecting dust? Organizational leaders feel they should have good plans - and they are right. Private firms, government agencies and non-profits are all facing an uncertain future, whether the task is to impress potential investors, chart a path towards profitability, or fight for funding. Moreover, lack of planning is shown to be among the top reasons for business failure. And yet strategic planning, if done at all, is often a bland re-hash of familiar issues. It is frustrating when prepared plans set high expectations, but then are not even implemented. Embarrassingly, the effort has produced nothing but a dust collector. I have seen this problem first hand - and solved it - not only as a consultant, but as a senior manager in public and private settings. I facilitated the effective implementation of organization-wide risk management programs (praised by the provincial Auditor General). As innovation specialist and director of strategic planning, I helped lead a manufacturing firm to win the Chamber of Commerce Business of the Year Award. It was knowledge hard won. After years of study, field research and dozens of client engagements, I finally arrived at a refined and careful method, and formulated it for publication to share with others.I am convinced: planners must follow a structured method that takes into account not only the different types and purposes of planning (a distinction rarely made!) but also the principles of effective program implementation. These success factors are proven in studies, but do not seem to be part of management training. And yet strategic planning, properly done and executed, can transform the culture and propel the organization to success. Using this book, you will: - gain clarity about exactly what you're trying to plan, instead of mixing up types of plans; - focus the discussion and streamline the process; - feel confident that your planning steps are in the right order; - engage managers and staff, build teams, and transform a negative culture; - conquer the "implementation gap", link to the real business, and reverse program failure. This book is a fast read, 70 pages, complete with diagrams; templates; references; quotes from industry practitioners; and index. Starting with an iron-clad positive case for doing strategic planning, I then show the practical steps. Take my advice, too, on the role of the planning champion and how to facilitate the process. If you can organize and chair meetings, and if you are motivated to move the organization ahead, you can do this! Strategic Planning: Process, Templates, and Effective Implementation lists lower than the average price in the strategic planning category. Show your colleagues, staff and competitors you can do strategic planning the way it should be done. Order it and start planning for success!
