Book Protection and Training

Download or read book Protection and Training written by Alberto E. Isgut and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The world of work is going through far-reaching transformations. These transformations have a strong impact on labour markets and pose new challenges for their institutions, including unemployment protection and technical and vocational education and training (TVET), which are crucial to the creation of full and productive employment and decent work for all. Constantly changing labour markets and the growing heterogeneity of labour relations present major challenges for the design of unemployment protection instruments. In addition, a highly skilled workforce is a key element for any development strategy that aims to base economic growth on innovation and knowledge. Moreover, national technical and vocational education and training systems must meet increasingly diverse demands from both the production sector and persons seeking decent work. By analysing recent experiences in Latin America and Asia in relation to unemployment protection and TVET systems, as well as the challenges the countries of the two regions face as they develop these labour market institutions, this volume seeks to contribute to the debate on the formation of labour market institutions that foster sustainable development in a changing world of work."--Publisher's description.

Book Rethinking Free Trade Economic Integration and Human Rights in the Americas

Download or read book Rethinking Free Trade Economic Integration and Human Rights in the Americas written by María Belén Olmos Giupponi and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2017-01-26 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph offers the first systematic overview of the protection of human rights in trade agreements in the Americas. Traditionally, trade agreements in the Americas were concerned with economic questions and paid little attention to human rights. However, in the wake of the 'new regionalism', which emerged at the end of the last century, more clauses addressing social issues such as labour rights and environmental standards were inserted in trade agreements. As economic integration increased, a framework for the protection of human rights evolved. This book argues that this framework allows for human rights protection on a transnational level, while constructing regional identities. Looking at the four key regional integration processes, namely the Caribbean Community, the Central American Integration System, the Andean Community of Nations and the Southern Common Market, and also at the North American Free Trade Agreement, it shows how the integration process has reached a considerable degree of consolidation. Writing on key sources in English for the first time, this book will be essential reading for all free trade and human rights scholars.

Book Teaching and Learning for the Twenty First Century

Download or read book Teaching and Learning for the Twenty First Century written by Fernando M. Reimers and published by Harvard Education Press. This book was released on 2019-01-02 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes how different nations have defined the core competencies and skills that young people will need in order to thrive in the twenty-first-century, and how those nations have fashioned educational policies and curricula meant to promote those skills. The book examines six countries—Chile, China, India, Mexico, Singapore, and the United States—exploring how each one defines, supports, and cultivates those competencies that students will need in order to succeed in the current century. Teaching and Learning for the Twenty-First Century appears at a time of heightened attention to comparative studies of national education systems, and to international student assessments such as those that have come out of PISA (the Program for International Student Assessment), led by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. This book’s crucial contribution to the burgeoning field of international education arises out of its special attention to first principles—and thus to first questions: As Reimers and Chung explain, “much can be gained by an explicit investigation of the intended purposes of education, in what they attempt to teach students, and in the related questions of why those purposes and how they are achieved.” These questions are crucial to education practice and reform at a time when educators (and the students they serve) face unique, pressing challenges. The book’s detailed attention to such questions signals its indispensable value for policy makers, scholars, and education leaders today.

Book Teaching and Testing Interpreting and Translating

Download or read book Teaching and Testing Interpreting and Translating written by Valerie Pellatt and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2010 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book presents a range of theoretical and practical approaches to the teaching of the twin professions of interpreting and translating, covering a variety of language pairs. All aspects of the training process are addressed - from detailed word-level processing to student concerns with their careers, and from the setting of examinations to the standardisation of marking. The articles show very clearly the strengths and needs, the potential and vision of interpreter and translator training as it exists in countries around the world. The experience of the authors, who are all actively engaged in training interpreters and translators, demonstrates the innovative, practical and reflective approaches which are proving invaluable in the formation of the next generation of professional translators and interpreters. While many of them are being trained in universities, they are being prepared for a life in the real world of business and politics through the use of authentic texts and tools and up-to-date methodology.

This book was released on 2015-06-11 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many reports over the last few years have analysed the potential use of games, videogames, 3D environments and virtual reality for educational purposes. Numerous emerging technological devices have also appeared that will play important roles in the development of teaching and learning processes. In the context of these developments, learning rather than teaching becomes the main axis in the organisation of the educational process. This process has now gone beyond the analogue world and face-toface education to enter the digital world, where new learning environments are being produced with ever greater doses of realism. Teaching and Learning in Digital Worlds examines the teaching and learning process in 3D virtual environments from both the theoretical and practical points of view.
