Download or read book Forged written by Bart D. Ehrman and published by Harper Collins. This book was released on 2011-03-22 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bart D. Ehrman, the New York Times bestselling author of Jesus, Interrupted and God’s Problem reveals which books in the Bible’s New Testament were not passed down by Jesus’s disciples, but were instead forged by other hands—and why this centuries-hidden scandal is far more significant than many scholars are willing to admit. A controversial work of historical reporting in the tradition of Elaine Pagels, Marcus Borg, and John Dominic Crossan, Ehrman’s Forged delivers a stunning explication of one of the most substantial—yet least discussed—problems confronting the world of biblical scholarship.

Book excerpt: A legion of elite, monastic fighting men, the Knights Templar were the most fearsome warriors of the Crusades, writing their legend in the gory sands of the Middle East with the blood of their enemies and their own. It was they who took the Holy Land, and they who held it. Answering only to the Pope, they bowed before no king or crown. Returned from the Crusades and stationed in Paris, Brother William has grown disillusioned with the Order and plans to leave it. But as their Paris stronghold is seized by royal troops, William leads a small band of Templars in a desperate escape, fleeing with them into the night. Alternately fighting and running, struggling to understand the world that has turned on them so viciously, they cross paths with a brutalized young prostitute. Open and proud about her sins, she ushers William and his comrades toward dark truths about the city festering around them, about its rulers and the church they've sworn to defend-all in a race to escape that will leave the streets of Paris bloody.

Download or read book Forging Ahead for God written by Darda Burkhart and published by TrustedBooks. This book was released on 2014-04-10 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Have you ever tried trusting God for all of your needs, including food, housing, safety, and your very existence? Most of us haven't, but Percy Wills has, and this book shows how-time and time again-God comes through when His people turn to Him in faith. An itinerant preacher in the rugged remote country of 1930s Vancouver Island, Wills risked his life to go where he believed God was calling him-to bring His love to isolated people who had never heard about Him before. In this book, you'll experience adventures that include: Beginning life as an itinerant missionary, he started out on foot to visit people in his area until God surprisingly provided a horse and then a saddle for it. At the start of winter, the cupboard was bare and he had no warm clothes or money. As he turned the situation over to God, a farmer knocked on his door to ask if he would come work for him. Wills faced seemingly insurmountable challenges in relying on God alone to provide for himself, his ailing wife, and their two small children in an isolated land. He often said he did not have great faith-he had faith in a great God. Join the Wills family and fellow missionaries in experiencing a lifetime of hair-raising adventures-and God's faithfulness. "I think of Percy and his amazing evangelism techniques, his unfailing kindness, his being a servant, and his passion simply to help in any way he could." -Rev. Donnel McLean, son of Dr. H. A. McLean, retired missionary to Japan. "What is recorded in these pages is the work of an amazing man who laid a foundation for thousands in his generation and the ones that follow to experience the love of God in community." -Dr. Nancy Murphy, executive director of Northwest Family Life Learning & Counseling Center."

Book excerpt: This doomsday masterpiece from the author of Eon and Hull Zero Three was a finalist for the Hugo and Nebula awards. On July 26, Arthur Gordon learns that Europa, the sixth moon of Jupiter, has disappeared. Not hiding, not turned black, but gone. On September 28th, Edward Shaw finds an error in the geological records of Death Valley. A cinder cone was left off the map. Could it be new? Or, stranger yet, could it be artificial? The answer may be lying beside it—a dying Guest who brings devastating news for Edward and for Planet Earth. As more unexplained phenomena spring up around the globe—a granite mountain appearing in Australia, sounds emanating from the earth’s core, flashes of light among the asteroids—it becomes clear to some that the end is approaching, and there is nothing we can do. In The Forge of God, award-winning author Greg Bear describes the final days of the world on both a massive, scientific scale and in the everyday, emotional context of individual human lives. Facing the destruction of all they know, some people turn to God, others to their families, and a few turn to saviors promising escape from a planet being torn apart. Will they make it in time? And who gets left behind to experience the last moments of beauty and chaos on earth? Nominated for the Nebula, Hugo, and Locus Awards, The Forge of God is an engrossing read, breathtaking in its scope and in its detail.

Download or read book God Didn t Do It He Only Signed Off On It written by Christiana I. Chineme and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2010-03 with total page 426 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As humans, things happen to us sometimes that we cannot fully understand. We desire to explain them when from human perspective there's no explanation that really exists. Our perplexion at things of that nature are not just about when they happen to us but also the things we witness in the world around us. They oftentimes shake the foundations of our faith in God to the core. But as much as not knowing hurts, at no time should our reaction be to accuse God for things we don't understand. Rather, we should know that God is not always the architect of all our problems and that He might not always save us from people that live to harm us or bless us the way we want because we take a stand with Him. His promise however is one thing and that is that He'll work it all out for HIS OWN ENDS even the wicked for a day of disaster Proverbs 16:4b. However your pain occurred, God's declared intentions are that He'll use all of your problems any which way they present to work out His will for your life. The deaths of some of the people that went before us is proof that for reasons best known to Him, God at times chooses not to deliver people that take a stand with Him. And it's not because He hated such people but because of what He already planned to use the situation for.
Download or read book Moving Forward on God s Highway written by Willenham Castilla and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2007 with total page 293 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a book about the grace of God and His singular purpose for everyone's life. Using his life as an example, the author signals how we are born into certain families, have certain unique talents, have various life experiences, learn important life lessons, get off track and have to be bounced around a bit, and perhaps have to hit a horrible bottom before we surrender to this ordained purpose from our Creator. The book is colorful, fast moving, and covers a multitude of areas including alcoholism, the 12 step program, psychology and the field of mental health, theology, New Age journeys, custody battles, male-female relations, many travel and adventure experiences, and various other topics as sampled by the author. Mostly, the book is about the futility of our personal resources in serving our God ordained purpose without a surrender to this power greater than ourselves and the grace that follows.
