Download or read book Evil in the Modern World written by Laura Dryjanska and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-03-10 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This interesting volume focuses on a set of phenomena which increasingly alarm the political world and public opinion: from the more obvious ones like torture, disease, human trafficking, abuse, genocide, displacement, to more subtle forms found in sports, technology and law. It looks at how and why these phenomena are universally condemned, and could be considered to threaten the very foundations of modern democracy; yet continue to be tolerated. The volume therefore goes beyond what Hannah Arendt has called the "banality of evil" and discusses the presence of condemned and heinous practices in society as fluid and chaotic but as non-trivial; capable of great transmutations through various epochs. Practices and actions considered as "evil" manifest in situations where individuals or groups hold power or seize power, and the contributions in this volume explore the close relation between power and evil. The volume draws upon sociology, psychology, cultural studies, political science, as well as philosophy, theology, anthropology, and neurology of the individual and of the group to provide a comprehensive understanding of the multiple facets of evil in the contemporary world.
Download or read book Ancient Timez written by Jerry Arthur Newcomb and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2015-11-21 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hello my brothers and sisters. My name is Jerry Arthur Newcomb. In the pages of this 3rd book in the Ancien imeZ book series, you will find many of the answers that has eluded man ever since the beginning of time. For instance; WHY God made man. WHY He made the entire material realm. Why He made male and female only here on Earth. We already know that God can do anything and that He truly loves us. You will learn the reason of why He has allowed EVIL to exist in our day to day lives. All is for the purpose of a greater GOOD! You will love learning all that you read. For all who want to help the non-believers see the TRUTH, today you will learn of proof in the way of DIVINE EXTRAORDINARY SYNCHRONICITY. Almighty God set this in many places throughout the HOLY BIBLE, and He did so for us to use in these last days before He sends His Son, Jesus, back to Earth. With the existence of the computer in these last days, many believe that they already have all the answers and are drifting further and further away from the TRUTH, and are none the wiser of it. For this purpose, He made sure that for those of us that truly love our fallen brothers and sisters, He made sure we had the tools to succeed in helping them see. So dig in, and have fun as you read of things that most wondered about and sought for the answers but had no idea of how to obtain them. God bless you in your walk!!!
Download or read book The Ghosts of Justice written by Ashok Kara and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2001 with total page 450 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is not possible to read Heidegger's text without the image of his arm raised in the Nazi salute haunting it. The image compels us to examine Heidegger's philosophy in terms of its susceptibility to Nazi ideology. Heidegger's philosophy was inscribed at the end of the history of philosophy, a time when Nazism was on the rise and on its way to the renewal of German destiny. In paragraph six of Being and Time Heidegger outlined his agenda for the renewal of philosophy. The renewal necessitated the destruction of the errant history of ontology in order to retrieve the pure primordial experiences. The parallels between the forms of two agendas are coincidental. However, my work shows where they overlapped. I explore the consequence of this overlap by soliciting the 'first' text of philosophy, The Anaximander Fragment, that speaks about justice and injustice. Justice is also at issue in the text of Jacques Derrida. Derrida's primary resource is paragraph six of Heidegger's Being and Time, a fact that caused some of his readers to assimilate him to Heidegger. Derrida has tried to distance himself from Heidegger and in a late text he has offered us the prescriptive phrase, "Deconstruction is justice," to guide our reading of his text. The phrase invites us to examine Derrida's work in light of its saying. This is what I try to do. I show that a separation cannot be accomplished without a price, because whether an author intends it or not, justice is something ghostly and it keeps its own account. Heidegger's arm and Derrida's hand caught in the trap of paragraph six tell another story, different from the stories the authors tell. The limbs tell the story about the ghosts of justice.
Download or read book Down to Earth written by Richard Floyd and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2015-08-18 with total page 141 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the face of climate change and ecological diminishment, how can we hope that creation itself--good and beautiful, marked by tragedy and chaos--is taken up rather than left behind? Can a Christian vision, which has at times been drunk on eschatological dreams (or nightmares) that consign this world and most of its creatures to destruction, foster an earthly hope? Jurgen Moltmann and Sallie McFague offer two contemporary possibilities for an ecological eschatology. Floyd critiques both of these theological visions and traces an alternative that is both humble (grounded in the humus, the dirt) and hopeful (grounded in divine creativity), arguing that a "down-to-earth" hope is grounded finally in beauty: the beauty of the other that draws out the self, the beauty of the redeemed self coming out to meet the other, and the beauty of God that lures forth ever-new possibilities and gathers up all the beautiful and broken creatures into the deepest possible harmony.
