Book Forestry Canada s National Timber Supply Study

Download or read book Forestry Canada s National Timber Supply Study written by and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 11 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The primary tool employed to estimate economic timber supply for six regions of Canada in the National Timber Supply Study is a simulation model known as PRTSM (Price Responsive Timber Supply Model). PRTSM utilizes forest inventory data, delivered wood costs, roundwood values, and exogenous price projections to produce estimates of the economically available supply of roundwood. This report presents the initial results of applying PRTSM to the Atlantic region. It includes description of the use of forestry inventory data to create a picture of available stocks and the use of PRTSM methodology on analysis units within the region. Initial results presented include an annual supply curve for the 1990-95 period.

Book The Long Term Adequacy of World Timber Supply

Download or read book The Long Term Adequacy of World Timber Supply written by Roger A. Sedjo and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-06-18 with total page 181 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Projecting modest future growth for both prices and harvest levels, this study, first published in 1990, provides theoretical and empirical justification for challenging the conventional wisdom that real timber prices will rise for the indefinite future. The study presents fifty-year projections of regional and world harvest levels, world market price, and investments in forest regeneration by region. This book will be of particular interest to students of economics and environmental studies.

Book Short run Supply Behaviour of Timber Quota Holders in Alberta

Download or read book Short run Supply Behaviour of Timber Quota Holders in Alberta written by Martin Karl Luckert and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Estimates the price responsiveness of timber supply for quota holders in Alberta, with quota holders divided into three categories based on their timber production capacities. Results indicate the influence of cost structures associated with seasonal conditions on timber supply decisions, and the responsiveness of timber supply to market prices for lumber. A dynamic optimisation technique was used to predict timber supply in the face of institutional constraints and to estimate shadow prices of those constraints. Expected values of lumber prices, wood chip prices, and interest rates were used in the econometric model, and the cost structure of large, medium, and small quota holders were calibrated so that the modelled behaviour mimics actual timber production. Results show the effect of institutional constraints on costs incurred by quota holders.

Book Resource and Market Projections for Forest Policy Development

Download or read book Resource and Market Projections for Forest Policy Development written by Darius M. Adams and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-09-18 with total page 599 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The text provides literature surveys on relevant modeling issues and policy concerns. It demonstrates the application of a modeling system using a "base case" 50-year projection and a small set of scenarios. These illustrate, for example, the effects of changes in public harvest policies, variations in investments in silviculture, and globalization. It is aimed at policy makers, researchers and graduate students who are building or using forest sector models.

Book The Global Forest Products Model

Download or read book The Global Forest Products Model written by Joseph Buongiorno and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2003-02-24 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Global Forest Products Model (GFPM) book provides a complete introduction to this widely applied computer model. The GFPM is a dynamic economic equilibrium model that is used to predict production, consumption, trade, and prices of 14 major forest products in 180 interacting countries. The book thoroughly documents the methods, data, and computer software of the model, and demonstrates the model's usefulness in addressing international economic and environmental issues. The Global Forest Products Model is written by an international multi-disciplinary team and is ideal for graduate students and professionals in forestry, natural resource economics, and related fields. It explains trends in world forest industries in the simplest terms by explaining the economic theory underlying the model. It describes six applications of the GFPM, three of which were commissioned by the Food Agriculture of the United Nations, the USDA Forest Service, and New Zealand Research. The authors show how to apply the model to real issues such as the effects of the Asian economic crisis on the forest sector, the effects of eliminating tariffs on international trade and production, and the international effects of national environmental policies. They provide complete explanations on how to use the GFPM software, prepare the data, make the forecasts, and summarize the results with tables and graphs. Comprehensive, and rigorous description of the world forestry sector Written by an international multi-disciplinary team Thorough description of data and methods In-depth applications to modern economic and policy issues Detailed documentation of the computer software Suitable for students, researchers, and decision makers

Book Canada United States Trade in Forest Products

Download or read book Canada United States Trade in Forest Products written by Russell S. Uhler and published by UBC Press. This book was released on 2011-11-01 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book illuminates the major economic and political factors that have led to the development of a particular pattern of trade in forest products, and it examines and compares the legal structures within which this trade takes place. Standard economic and political methods of analysis are used to study the history of this trade, including such recent developments as the Free Trade Agreement. Several of the chapters focus on two recent trade disputes involving Canadian exports of shakes and shingles and of softwood lumber to the United States. These disputes are instructive for understanding not only the politics of trade but also important economic issues such as the measurement and impact of timber subsidies. In addition, the authors consider the factors affecting foreign market share, and the burden of tariffs and export taxes.
