Book Training manual on forests and trees for food security and nutrition

Download or read book Training manual on forests and trees for food security and nutrition written by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 2020-04-01 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Currently in Tanzania, training institutions for professionals in cross-cutting sectors such as forestry and agriculture do not adequately capture the role of forest and tree resources for food security and nutrition, leading to dependency on one sector – agriculture – to cater for food and nutrition diversity. This undervalues the fundamental role of forest ecosystem services for sustainable agriculture by regulating water flows, stabilizing soils, maintaining soil fertility, regulating the climate, and providing habitat for wild pollinators and predators of agricultural pests. Provision of education on sustainable forests and trees for food security and nutrition at all levels seems to be the most conceivable entry point to ensure that adequate knowledge and skills are imparted to professionals. The goals of this training manual are to: enhance the recognition and significance of forestry to food security and nutrition through the sustainable management and use of forests and trees2; enhance the food security and nutrition benefits from the forests and trees; enhance and stimulate research and training capacity; strengthen institutional frameworks by incorporating food security and nutrition objectives in forest management policies, programmes and projects; and develop value chains based on forest and tree resources for sustainable development in the country. The overall objective is to create awareness and enable increased investment in the forestry sector for food security and nutrition in Tanzania. This training manual is also meant to serve as a useful tool for sharing and exchanging knowledge and experiences across different regions (within the country) and beyond.

Download or read book The Essential Guide to Forest School and Nature Pedagogy written by Jon Cree and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-05-19 with total page 451 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a complete guide to Forest School provision and Nature Pedagogy and it examines the models, methods, worldviews and values that underpin teaching in nature. Cree and Robb show how a robust Nature Pedagogy can support learning, behaviour, and physical and emotional wellbeing, and, importantly, a deeper relationship with the natural world. They offer an overview of what a Forest School programme could look like through the year. The Essential Guide to Forest School and Nature Pedagogy provides ‘real-life’ examples from a variety of contexts, sample session plans and detailed guidance on using language, crafting and working with the natural world. This accessible resource guides readers along the Forest School path, covering topics such as: the history of nature education; our sensory system in nature; Forest School ethos and worldview and playing and crafting in the natural world. Guiding practitioners through planning for a programme, including taking care of a woodland site and preparing all the essential policies and procedures for working with groups and nature, this book is written by dedicated Forest School and nature education experts and is essential reading for settings, schools, youth groups, families and anyone working with children and young people.

Book Wood Harvesting with Hand Tools

Download or read book Wood Harvesting with Hand Tools written by International Labour Office and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In many developing countries wood harvesting with hand tools continues on a large scale. With the shift of emphasis towards trees grown by rural people rather than forestry enterprises, it will gain in importance in the years to come. This training manual provides basic information on efficient and safe equipment and methods for manual wood harvesting. At the same time, the information helps to ensure the fullest utilization of the available wood raw material. The manual updates previous ILO publications on the same subject, while taking into account progress and new developments observed in recent years. It is richly illustrated to make it easily accessible and will be ideal for forestry training and rural extension work. "This small book is a well-illustrated guide ..... simple to read, the diagrams are clear and are well described in the text ..... an excellent book dealing simply and in sufficient detail with a subject where current methods of operation often leave much to be desired."
