Download or read book Ethnocide vs Ethnicity written by Dr. Lakhinanda Bordoloi and published by Notion Press. This book was released on 2024-04-26 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The term ethnocide refers to the destruction of a culture without the killing of its bearers. It often leaves lasting scars on the affected ethnic group, eroding their sense of distinct identity and disconnecting them from their historical roots. The process among the Tiwa tribe of North East India led to their identity crisis. This book provides a panoramic view of ethnocide versus ethnicity manifested among them. Over the years they have suffered from problems of loss of language and cultures. By integrating ethnographic and ethical perspectives on the tribe, this book underscores the complex challenges in safeguarding cultural diversity of ethnic groups in a multi-ethnic country like India.

Book Joint Forest Management in Assam

Book excerpt: This book will give immense information on joint forest management system of Assam with special reference to Dhubry district, besides other important information of North East and other parts of the country. The readers can read the problems of forest management at Dhubri district of Assam which is more or less similar to the whole N.E. India and in Many other states of India. A special character of forests of this district that these are Ex-Zamindari forests, it means that the forests were controlled and managed by the Zamindars in past. Reserve Forests of the district are not similar with other of the state. Revenue villagers are embroidered within the Reserve Forests, the details are given inside the book. Motivation of the people towards J.F.M. is not a simple task. Hence, these are discussed widely to remove the difficulties and it has been tried to solve these difficulties easily. J.F.M. is the tool of Rural Development, specially to the people living within and around forests, which is just the opposite idea of past forest management system. This orthodox (British) policy has been criticized in this book and further clarified that the forest is for people and predators are the protectors of forests. Problems of terrorism or insurgency have seriously infected the whole N.E. region presently, where Assam is also one of the sufferers in all aspects. A seperate chapter is included in this book of this problem. Knowledge of Eco-socio system is essential for the J.F.M. workers and hence a rough sketch has been drawn for Dhubri district of Assam on this topic. The past is necessary for future and without studying our ancient forest management it is very difficult to work for future development of our forests. For this reason, some pages have been included in this book which speak of the past forest management of Assam, prior to British period. Book Globalization and Marginalization in Mountain Regions

Download or read book Globalization and Marginalization in Mountain Regions written by Raghubir Chand and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-06-14 with total page 243 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book looks at the global importance of mountain systems, emphasizing their ecological and socio-economic role in light of climate change and globalization. With a special focus on the Himalayas, it also examines the Czech–German–Austrian mountain borderland, the Alps, the Andes, the highland regions of Malaysia, and the Arctic. The contributors, specialists in their fields, all use an integrative approach that develops and argues the concept of mountain regions as a global common good. Readers also discover that mountain systems and mountain communities are often marginalized and left behind by the process of globalization. Case studies throughout detail the effects of climate change and global warming on both nature and local/regional societies, such as declining water supplies, a shifting vegetation line, and other important issues facing not only mountains but also the vast regions depending on them. In addition, the comprehensive coverage offers authenticated viewpoints from some of the most eminent explorers of Tibet in the nineteenth century. More than 50 percent of the global human population draws benefits directly or indirectly from mountain resources and services. This book provides practitioners, researchers, students, and other interested readers with a compelling look at the global importance of this imposing, yet sensitive ecosystem.
