  • Pages : 212 pages

Download or read book Ghost Forest written by Pik-Shuen Fung and published by One World. This book was released on 2021-07-13 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This “powerful” (BuzzFeed) award-winning debut about love, grief, and family welcomes you into its pages and invites you to linger, staying with you long after you’ve closed its covers. “Quietly moving . . . connected by a kind of dream logic . . . deeply felt . . . There is joy and tenderness in . . . Fung’s elegant storytelling.”—The New York Times Book Review How do you grieve, if your family doesn’t talk about feelings? This is the question the unnamed protagonist of GhostForest considers after her father dies. One of the many Hong Kong “astronaut” fathers, he stays there to work, while the rest of the family immigrated to Canada before the 1997 Handover, when the British returned sovereignty over Hong Kong to China. As she revisits memories of her father through the years, she struggles with unresolved questions and misunderstandings. Turning to her mother and grandmother for answers, she discovers her own life refracted brightly in theirs. Buoyant and heartbreaking, Ghost Forest is a slim novel that envelops the reader in joy and sorrow. Fung writes with a poetic and haunting voice, layering detail and abstraction, weaving memory and oral history to paint a moving portrait of a Chinese-Canadian astronaut family. “Ghost Forest is the tender/funny book we can all appreciate after a hellish year.”—Literary Hub

Download or read book Emotional Empowerment written by Patrizia Patz and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2022-03-10 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Feelings and emotions are part of our everyday life. Sometimes we are supposed to show them, sometimes we are supposed to hide them - in other words, to control our emotions. But when we look at it soberly, we are emotionally illiterate. We don't really know what to do with our feelings. Why have we forgotten how to deal with them? Or have we just never learned it? This book provides answers to these questions. Because in order to come to our senses again, we need a different attitude towards feelings. They can be a gateway to and a tool for manipulation. Or a catalyst of our innermost being and thus a source of empowerment. But without awareness, we have no choice. Only when we know our feelings do we gain clarity and are able to take responsibility for changing something. Patz relentlessly dispels outdated myths about feelings and shows practical and attractive ways to live our authentic potential.

Book A Forest of Ideas

    Book Details:
  • Author : BLAKE PARKER
  • Publisher : Trafford Publishing
  • Release : 2014-08-14
  • ISBN : 1490744177
  • Pages : 311 pages

Download or read book A Forest of Ideas written by BLAKE PARKER and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2014-08-14 with total page 311 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Blake Parker worked on this series of writings in the last year of his life while he lived with a terminal diagnosis of cancer. It is a mixture of poetry, dialogues, book reports, and short essays, formed as a sort of shorthand to a number of concepts, primarily from sociology and anthropology, which he saw as useful, if not actually essential, for understanding symbolic interpretation and the essence of the therapeutic process within a social and cultural context. He designed the psychoanalytic and therapeutic diagrams to clarify concepts and as teaching aids for art therapy students and therapists. Blake uses a phenomenological understanding of metaphor in order to throw light upon the process of social construction, creativity, and conceptions of mysticism or spirituality. The book includes some of his personal reflections regarding death, dying, creativity, and the meaning of life. The notes are essentially a hermeneutic of mysticism, a moving from the parts to the whole and the whole to the parts. It is a forest of ideas and ramblings in interpretive frameworks that emerged and is presented in a circular spiral.
