Book Forest Ecosystem Classification and Land System Mapping Pilot Project

Download or read book Forest Ecosystem Classification and Land System Mapping Pilot Project written by Pedocan Land Evaluation Ltd. (Edmonton) and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report summarizes the results of the second of 2 pilot projects to develop and test a site classification and forest land mapping system for the province of Manitoba. The project was conducted at Sandilands from 1988-89 and classified the pilot area within the ecoregions-subregions of Adams (1985); mapped ecological site units at 1:50,000 scale based upon land forms, soils, and plant community types; and characterized map units by productivity estimates of site index and mean annual increment of dominant and sub-dominant site types within map units using cruise and permanent sample plot data. Non-productive wetland ecosystems were not classified. A detailed description of the methods used are included.

Book Global to Local Ecological Land Classification

Download or read book Global to Local Ecological Land Classification written by Richard A. Sims and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 619 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ecological Land Classification (ELC) refers to the description of land resources at a range of spatial resolutions (i.e. global to local) and for a range of purposes or values. The emerging science of ELC is in fact a very carefully integrated blend of vegetation and earth sciences, climatology, cartography and ecology with a range of new technologies and methodologies including computer-based geographic information systems, remote sensing and simulation modelling. This publication defines the current `state-of-the-art' of ELC. It provides particular insight into the role of ELC in current and future forest resource planning and management, and emphasizes its application and usefulness at various spatial scales, for a variety of geographic locations, and under a range of management scenarios/constraints. The book is an invaluable and substantial reference source about the current trends in ELC and will be of particular value to ecologists, foresters, geographers, resource managers, wildlife biologists, GIS and remote sensing specialists, educators and students.

Book Forest Ecosystem Toposequences in Manitoba

Download or read book Forest Ecosystem Toposequences in Manitoba written by Christopher Andrew Zoladeski and published by UBC Press. This book was released on 1998 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Describes ten toposequences on common landforms of the boreal forests of Manitoba, seven of which are representative of the Manitoba Model Forest in the south-east of the province. The others are single examples of the Sandilands, Duck Mountain, and Thompson areas. The toposequences are composites of transects and sample plots used for the development of the Manitoba Forest Ecosystem Classification. Each toposequence describes and graphically presents typical associations of forest types and soil conditions that change along topographic gradients. Each is accompanied by an aerial photo stereograph. Includes a glossary, an appendix of common and scientific names of plants, and a complete listing of Manitoba vegetation and soil types.

Book An Ecosystem Carbon Database for Canadian Forests

Download or read book An Ecosystem Carbon Database for Canadian Forests written by Cindy Shaw and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Forest Ecosystem Carbon Database presented in this report was compiled to meet the data needs of large-scale modelers and analysts working with the carbon budgets and dynamics of different forest ecosystems in Canada. A summary of estimated carbon content for soil, tree biomass by component, and total ecosystem carbon for each plot is appended to this report. These estimates fo not include detrital carbon (woody debris, etc.) or root biomass, which may significantly alter estimates for total ecosystem carbon in some forest types.
