Book Foreign Direct Investment and Employment

Download or read book Foreign Direct Investment and Employment written by Arshad Hayat and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2014-09-16 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The increased economic globalization has resulted in multinational enterprises (MNE's) making huge investments in the shape of foreign direct investment (FDI). The inflow of such FDI is perceived to be generating employment opportunities in the host country economy. Therefore, different countries have been offering different incentives in order to attract these multinational firms to do business in the country. United States state of Alabama provided incentive to attract new Mercedes plant in 1994 and spent US$150,000 per each job created in the process (Keller and Yeaple, 2004). The Czech Republic has been providing many such incentives in the shape of tax holidays, better infrastructure and one window operations in order to attract foreign firms to invest in the Czech Republic. However, the impact of such FDI inflow in terms of generating employment opportunities has been unclear. Most of the studies conducted on impact of FDI on employment give divergent results. The book explores the impact of FDI inflow on the domestic employment.

However, further studies are needed to understand better the employment and wage impact of foreign direct investment.

Book Employment Effects of Foreign Direct Investment and Economic Growth

Download or read book Employment Effects of Foreign Direct Investment and Economic Growth written by Aniceth Mpanju and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2011-09 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As an engine of economic development for developing countries, foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows have contributed for creation of technology transfer to local firms and managerial know-how; have had positive effects on exports and access to external markets. It is also argued that FDI will contribute to economic growth and hence generate more jobs. Driven by this, the government of Tanzania has attempted to attract FDI in the 1990s by offering generous incentives to achieve this target. This book, therefore, provides a new insights into the fields of economics and international business. The employment effect of FDI and gross domestic product (GDP) in Tanzania for the period 1990 to 2008 is analyzed empirically using SPSS. The analysis should help shed some light into FDI and economic growth and their impact on employment creation in Tanzania, and should be especially useful to multinational corporations in developed and developing countries. It is also likely to be of interest to policy makers and development practitioners in government, non-government organizations and in the the donor community.

Book The Employment Spillover of Foreign Direct Investment and Host Country Productivity

Download or read book The Employment Spillover of Foreign Direct Investment and Host Country Productivity written by Xolani John Hlongwane and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study uses panel data to advance international business literature about the efficiency with which Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) inflows to developed countries create employment compared to developing countries. It is argued that the economic activity of a host economy in the growth of its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) facilitates its ability to attract FDI. The importance of this relationship lies in the components that make the GDP a composite measure and has wide-ranging implications on governance, effectiveness and efficiency of a host country. The analysis of data confirmed the hypothesis on the efficiency of developed economies in creating employment from FDI inflows. The study further presents a detailed case, analysed from data, on the relationship between economic activities of major industrial sectors in South Africa and their ability to attract foreign investments. Furthermore, the extent to which the foreign investment creates employment in proportion to the FDI inflow is examined. The study findings support a positive relationship with GDP FDI and employment. While similar trends were seen on industrial sectors, a declining growth in employment and FDI inflow were noticeable in South Africa.

Book Employment Impact of Foreign Direct Investment

Download or read book Employment Impact of Foreign Direct Investment written by Aniceth Mpanju and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2012-06-01 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many studies show that the inflow of FDI plays a significant role in generating employment opportunities in host countries. Over the past two decades, the East African Community (EAC) countries have attracted foreign direct investment from developed countries and FDI flows to the EAC region increased significantly. The objective of this study was to undertake an empirical analysis on creation of employment opportunities by FDI during 2004-2008 in Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda. We used the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). The study shows that despite the clear enthusiasm of governments in these countries to attract FDI, its impact is not substantial in some of these countries. This book therefore, provides a new insight into the fields of international investments and economic development. The analysis should help shed some light into FDI and its impact on jobs creation in the EAC region, and should be especially useful to multinational corporations from developed countries and emerging economies. It is also likely to be of interest to policy makers and development practitioners in governments, non-governmental organizations and in the donor community.
