Colonial was generally a shade lower at 86 to 87 cents. European.markets apparently are absorbing present supplies at prices sufficiently high to make effective the eight cent tariff. Montreal quotations, for the first time quoted in the summary statement on page 727, are lower than New York by just the amount of the tariff. During the last half of the month prices declined but an advance during the first part of January regained all of the loss of the latter part of December. This advance was attributed to slow deliveries at terminal markets, unfavorable United stat es crop news, and also partly the result of the trade discounting prospects of farm relief legislation designed to raise wheat prices. May futures at Liverpool changed very little as a salt of the Chicago advance. On January 3 the spread between Chicago and Liver pool was 4 cents per bushel, Liverpool above Chicago; on January 10, May futures at Chicago closed at 50 to 50 cents, while the close at Liverpool was cents per bushel. On the 16th of January Liverpool was again above Chicago but only two cents h' gher. At Buenos Aires, where a new crop is now being harvested, prices declined somewhat during December. A small advance during the first week of January was followed by another decline during the second week, leaving February futures on January 14 at 36 cents per bushel Which was about 12 cents under Liverpool'. Stocks in store at Fort william-port Arthur on January 6 were bushels compared with the preceding week and 3 year ago. Receipts at the two ports for the week were bushels, a slight decrease from.the received during holiday weak. Total receipts for the season to January 6 at these ports were bushels, which is less than at the same time last year and less than at that time for 1925 - 1926. Shipments, on the other hand, were bushels, or greater than last year but less than in 1925 - 26. Shipments from Vancouver and Prince Rupert have also been heavy this season, amounting to compared with last year and in 1925-26.
