Book Forecasting the Success Rate of Reward Based Crowdfunding Projects

Download or read book Forecasting the Success Rate of Reward Based Crowdfunding Projects written by Ivelin Elenchev and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present paper develops three models that help predict the success rate and attainable investment levels of online crowdfunding ventures. This is done by applying standard economic theory and machine learning techniques from computer science to the novel sector of on-line crowd-based micro- financing. In contrast with previous research in the area, this paper analyzes transaction-level data in addition to information about completed crowdfunding projects. This provides an unique perspective in the ways crowd finance ventures develop. The models reach an average of 83% accuracy in predicting the outcome of a crowdfunding campaign at any point throughout its duration. These ndings prove that a number of product and project specifi c parameters are indicative of the success of the venture. Subsequently, the paper provides guidance to capital seekers and investors on the basis of these criteria, and allows participants in the crowdfunding marketplace to make more rational decisions.

Book Crowdfunding with Enhanced Reputation Monitoring Mechanism Fame

Download or read book Crowdfunding with Enhanced Reputation Monitoring Mechanism Fame written by Omid Torabi and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2020-02-10 with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Crowdfunding is increasingly becoming a method of mobilizing project finance ventures, particularly in a sharing economy. Moreover, the element of risk sharing which is found in equity crowdfunding makes up the essence of Islamic finance. However, as with any type of risk-sharing contract, Islamic crowdfunding faces the problem of lack of trust and information asymmetry. The author employs a game theory approach to Islamic crowdfunding as a means to tackle the issue of information asymmetry through a "reputation mechanism" which is touted as one of the latest means of solving information asymmetry in web-based social networks. The primary objective of the reputation mechanism is to enable more efficient transactions in communities where cooperation is compromised by post-contractual opportunism or information asymmetry. The game theory approach in this study involves two different games: "without Fame" and "with Fame", and it is proposed that a "with Fame" crowdfunding game produces better results. The reputational mechanism in this research was also designed specifically to eliminate any potential moral hazards and minimize information asymmetry. In this study, "Fame" refers to the credibility of every individual within the crowdfunding system. Fame is a form of systematic, measurable and computable (implicit and explicit) reputation, which allows other members of the crowdfunding social network to better learn about the individual and their credibility.

Book Crowdfunding and Entrepreneurial Finance

Download or read book Crowdfunding and Entrepreneurial Finance written by Richard Harrison and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-10-02 with total page 153 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An increase in the restrictions on the availability of funding for new and growing businesses in the aftermath of the global financial crisis has been accompanied by the emergence and growth of crowdfunding as an alternative method of raising capital. Crowdfunding contributes towards the disintermediation of the finance market as funders and promoters are brought together directly, democratising both fundraising by businesses and investment by individuals. This book extends entrepreneurial finance research to the study of crowdfunding. Contributions review the history, status and future of crowdfunding, analyse the patterns of fundraising, assess the potential of crowdfunding for the financing of social ventures in particular, and discuss the regulatory implications of recent developments. What is clear from this collection is that the crowdfunding space is still evolving, institutional forms are still developing as models are refined, new institutional collaborations (e.g. between equity platforms and business angel networks) are emerging, and new challenges, particularly regulatory challenges, are being encountered. While crowdfunding is not a universal solution for SME finance in a post-crisis financial landscape, it remains too early to determine whether crowdfunding represents a large-scale transformation of the early stage risk capital market or a minor addition to it. This book was originally published as a special issue of Venture Capital.

Book Long term Study of Crowdfunding Platform

Download or read book Long term Study of Crowdfunding Platform written by Jinwook Chung and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Crowdfunding that is the combination word of crowdsourcing and funding makes people can start a business easily. Legislating JOBS act in US played a major role in removing restricted barriers of crowdfunding on public offerings of fence and private funds for small business. The growth speed of crowdfunding takes some beating. Through Kickstarter that is a popular crowdfunding platform and being considered the typical case of crowdfunding, 480 million dollars and more than half a billion dollars were invested in about 19 thousand and 22 projects for 2013 and 2014 respectively. But in spite of the rapid growth, the successful rate of projects at large is decreasing because of imprudent project launching. People just imagine a success story of some triumphant projects without any kind of preparedness when they launch a project. Up to now most of papers researched based on Kickstarter platform because it is the biggest crowdfunding site. But there is no research paper studying with the entire data yet. So, we gathered all the project's main pages in Kickstarter that are finished whether a project is funded or not from its launched date on 2009 to September, 2014. And we also collected all users' profile pages including initiators and backers. The goal of this research project is to analyze evolution of projects and users, investigate techniques and predict successfully funded projects and expected pledged funding levels, and providing intelligent search and discovery based on time series patterns of projects. To successfully achieve the goal, we propose to analyze all projects and users in Kickstarter toward understanding evolution of them over time and thus develop statistical models to automatically predict successfully funded projects and expected funding level. We used as many features as possible such as features being obtainable from text (project main, reward and biography description). Our result will be very helpful for people especially a person preparing a crowdfunding project to fulfill a dream.

Book When Investors Meet Consumers

Download or read book When Investors Meet Consumers written by Haibing Gao and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Crowdfunding has changed the way startups, entrepreneurs, and individuals raise capital by harnessing the power of the crowd. Reward-based crowdfunding is an established and attractive fundraising option for entrepreneurs with creative projects. Recently, investment-based crowdfunding has also gained popularity thanks to the progress of related regulations. A growing number of startups are beginning to seek funding opportunities using both types of crowdfunding. Crowdfunding backers on different types of platforms exhibit distinct motivations. Understanding the behavior and interaction of different types of backers is critical for a startup to launch a successful crowdfunding campaign across distinct platforms. To address this issue, we conducted a field study on a popular crowdfunding platform, where each campaign offered both reward- and investment-based funding. Interestingly, we find a positive relationship between investors' contributions in the early stage of the campaign and the likelihood of the campaign's success. We propose two mechanisms to explain this pattern: a screening effect, in which early investors can better extract information about the innovation project to predict crowdfunding success, and a cheerleading effect, in which early investors voluntarily act as sales agents to encourage purchases by potential consumers of reward-based crowdfunding. Moreover, our empirical analysis reveals that despite these critical roles (predictors and sales agents) of early investors, the funding goal of a successful campaign is mainly accomplished by consumers in the later stage. These results are consistent with several robustness checks. Our findings provide relevant managerial implications for entrepreneurs and valuable insights towards platform design.

Book Reward based Crowdfunding Influence of Virtuous and Entrepreneurial Orientation Rhetoric on Campaign Performance

Download or read book Reward based Crowdfunding Influence of Virtuous and Entrepreneurial Orientation Rhetoric on Campaign Performance written by Artem Milkov and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2021-05-19 with total page 91 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Master's Thesis from the year 2020 in the subject Business economics - General, grade: 1,0, Technical University of Munich, language: English, abstract: This paper extends academic literature on reward-based crowdfunding and examines the influence of entrepreneurial rhetoric on campaign performance through the lens of the social role theory. It explores how altruistic values shared by its participants redefine the social role of an entrepreneur. It demonstrates how this peculiarity can be exploited in favour of various disadvantaged demographic groups through an appropriate use of the language reflective of virtuous and entrepreneurial orientations. Despite their apparent importance, these two types of rhetoric have been largely neglected by scholars studying online funding platforms. Based on a quantitative analysis of 8,459 Kickstarter campaigns using a multilevel regression technique, the author discovered that virtuous orientation has a positive and entrepreneurial orientation negative effect on reward-based crowdfunding performance. Furthermore, in line with the social role theory, Caucasian women and racial minority men benefit greater than white males from the use of virtuous rhetoric and get punished more for using entrepreneurial rhetoric. However, these effects are reversed for racial minority females, who appear to be rewarded for violating the behaviour associated with their sex and race. Overall, the findings confirm that rhetoric is an important tool at entrepreneurs’ disposal, and they can improve their chances of success in reward-based crowdfunding by using it appropriately and in accordance with their social role. Crowdfunding is on course to become the leading source of capital for new venture financing, which is one of the most challenging tasks entrepreneurs have to face. Notwithstanding considerable progress, our understanding of its underlying processes remains inadequate.

Book Investigations of Reward based Crowdfunding Success

Download or read book Investigations of Reward based Crowdfunding Success written by Liang Zhao and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Entrepreneurial financing affects the survival and growth of new ventures. Because of the “liability of newness”, traditional financing channels may be hesitant to finance new ventures. Thus, new channels should be discovered and developed for new venture financing. Crowdfunding has recently emerged as an innovative and feasible channel for start-up financing in addition to traditional fundraising sources. Although research on crowdfunding has been popular in past decades, researchers’ understanding of the crucial success factors of crowdfunding remains limited. Therefore, taking reward-based crowdfunding as the research context, this thesis comprehensively explores the possible success determinants of crowdfunding campaigns through three different theoretical aspects: supporters’ utilitarian value, hedonic value and motivations The findings of this thesis shows that the pleasure obtained during the crowdfunding process is positively associated with crowdfunding success. Besides, entrepreneurs’ empathy and impression management are also significantly associated with reward-based crowdfunding results. In addition, this thesis also explores why the satisfaction of backer’s extrinsic motivation may not always lead to crowdfunding success. The findings of this thesis not only provide meaningful insights into the literature about crowdfunding in general, but also offer practical tips for both entrepreneurs and crowdfunding platform administrators.
