Book Forecasting Highway Construction Staffing Requirements

Download or read book Forecasting Highway Construction Staffing Requirements written by Timothy R. B. Taylor and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Adequate construction staffing is critical for performance of highway construction projects. The variable nature of these projects, however, can make it difficult to estimate construction staff requirements for both the short and long term. This study gathered information on the methods being used at highway transportation agencies to forecast staffing requirements. These methods are diverse and range from simple heuristics based on generic project types to multi-variate regression models developed from historical project data. Information for this study was acquired through a literature review, surveys of state transportation agencies, and site visits to non-state agencies. Timothy R.B. Taylor and William F. Maloney, University of Kentucky Department of Civil Engineering, Lexington, Kentucky, collected and synthesized the information and wrote the report. The members of the topic panel are acknowledged on the preceding page. This synthesis is an immediately useful document that records the practices that were acceptable with the limitations of the knowledge available at the time of its preparation. As progress in research and practice continues, new knowledge will be added to that now at hand"--Preface.

Book State DOT Management Techniques for Materials and Construction Acceptance

Download or read book State DOT Management Techniques for Materials and Construction Acceptance written by Gary Roderick Smith and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 1998 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This synthesis will be of interest to state Department of Transportation (DOT) materials and construction engineers; contract, procedure, and specification specialists; construction personnel managers; researchers; and private consultants. The synthesis describes the current state of the practice of state DOT management techniques for materials and construction acceptance, including approaches to inspection and testing. The associated requirements for maintaining adequate qualified personnel to operate the acceptance and testing programs are considered in the information reported. The information was collected by surveying state DOTs and by conducting a literature search. This report of the Transportation Research Board presents background information on the changing role of specifications, quality assurance processes, warranties, material certifications, and personnel management regarding the state of the practice for state DOT management techniques for materials and construction acceptance. In addition, detailed information is presented on personnel issues. The details of materials test methods and statistical quality control procedures are not included in the report. However, discussion of these technical aspects of materials and construction acceptance are included on the basis of their influence on personnel training requirements, and changes in administrative requirements.
