Book excerpt: Most of us believe in information. Some believe in truths, while others believe in magic. Information is what we can see, truth is what we feel, and magic is what we instinctively know is true. On December 4th 1981 the president of the United States issued Executive Order 12333 concerning the activities of the intelligence community. Paragraph 2.11 of that order states; "No employee of the United States Government shall engage in, or conspire to engage in assassination." But upon learning of the political ties and aspirations of one charismatic young entertainer and philanthropist, certain agencies broke that order in the fall of 1996 when the star was killed in a barrage of bullets fired by a confidential informant commissioned for just such an act. After a decade of silence the files have been unsealed and the shooter will now be revealed. Some call him a hero, others say he's a villain, and some even call him a god. The White Book provides a glimpse at man's perspectives of the cultural history of the United States: assassination, government cover-ups, and his perpetual pursuit of what sets us all free: the truth.

Book The Plagues of Friendship

Download or read book The Plagues of Friendship written by Sem Miantoloum Beasnael and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2002 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thirty-eight-year-old Marcia Evans has spent her adult life as a struggling actress, unable to penetrate that barrier which prevents her from having the "big break" all aspiring actors and actresses hope to achieve which will move her career to the next level. She works part-time at a day job and does small acting gigs on the side. She is tired of her lifestyle and of life in the big city. Marcia eventually discovers a charming house set in the woods while traveling to an acting job at a theater outside of the city. She learns that the original owners, who were killed in a car accident twenty years after the house was built, were retirees who enjoyed aiding transients and runaways. The house passed on to the niece of the wife, who died only five years after moving into the house at a very young age. Using part of her grandmother's inheritance, Marcia purchases the house from the son of the deceased owner for a suspiciously low price. She moves into the house and rents a room out to Stephen Gomaz, a co-worker at her job and with whom she falls in love. But chronic illness, terrifying nightmares, and strange paranormal activity cause Marcia to question the true character of the original owners and the events that may have happened in the house. With the aid of a deputy sheriff and a psychic, the horrifying truth of the house is revealed.

Book Pablo Tac Indigenous Scholar

Download or read book Pablo Tac Indigenous Scholar written by Pablo Tac and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 2011-12-07 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume makes available a remarkable body of writings, the only indigenous account of early nineteenth-century California. Written by Pablo Tac, this work on Luiseño language and culture offers a new approach to understanding California’s colonial history. Born and raised at Mission San Luis Rey, near San Diego, Pablo Tac became an international scholar. He traveled to Rome, where he studied Latin and other subjects, and produced these historical writings for the Vatican Librarian Cardinal Giuseppe Mezzofanti. In this multifaceted volume, Pablo Tac’s study is published in the original languages and in English translation. Lisbeth Haas introduces Pablo Tac’s life and the significance of the record he left. She situates his writing among that of other indigenous scholars, and elaborates on its poetic quality. Luiseño artist James Luna considers Tac’s contemporary significance in a series of artworks that bring Pablo Tac into provocative juxtaposition with the present day. Transcribed by Marta Eguía, Cecilia Palmeiro, Laura León Llerena, Jussara Quadros, and Heidi Morse, with facing-page translation by Jaime Cortez, Guillermo Delgado, Gildas Hamel, Karl Kottman, Heidi Morse, and Rose Vekony

Book The Complete Works of C H Spurgeon Volume 5

Download or read book The Complete Works of C H Spurgeon Volume 5 written by Spurgeon, Charles H. and published by Delmarva Publications, Inc.. This book was released on 2015-02-23 with total page 975 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume 5 Sermons 225-285 Charles Spurgeon (19 June 1834 – 31 January 1892) is one of the church’s most famous preachers and Christianity’s foremost prolific writers. Called the “Prince of Preachers,” he was one of England's most notable ministers for most of the second half of the nineteenth century, and he still remains highly influential among Christians of different denominations today. His sermons have spread all over the world, and his many printed works have been cherished classics for decades. In his lifetime, Spurgeon preached to more than 10 million people, often up to ten times each week. He was the pastor of the congregation of the New Park Street Chapel (later the Metropolitan Tabernacle) in London for 38 years. He was an inexhaustible author of various kinds of works including sermons, commentaries, an autobiography, as well as books on prayer, devotionals, magazines, poetry, hymns and more. Spurgeon was known to produce powerful sermons of penetrating thought and divine inspiration, and his oratory and writing skills held his audiences spellbound. Many Christians have discovered Spurgeon's messages to be among the best in Christian literature. Edward Walford wrote in Old and New London: Volume 6 (1878) quoting an article from the Times regarding one of Spurgeon’s meetings at Surrey: “Fancy a congregation consisting of 10,000 souls, streaming into the hall, mounting the galleries, humming, buzzing, and swarming—a mighty hive of bees—eager to secure at first the best places, and, at last, any place at all. After waiting more than half an hour—for if you wish to have a seat you must be there at least that space of time in advance—Mr. Spurgeon ascended his tribune. To the hum, and rush, and trampling of men, succeeded a low, concentrated thrill and murmur of devotion, which seemed to run at once, like an electric current, through the breast of every one present, and by this magnetic chain the preacher held us fast bound for about two hours. It is not my purpose to give a summary of his discourse. It is enough to say of his voice, that its power and volume are sufficient to reach every one in that vast assembly; of his language, that it is neither high-flown nor homely; of his style, that it is at times familiar, at times declamatory, but always happy, and often eloquent; of his doctrine, that neither the 'Calvinist' nor the 'Baptist' appears in the forefront of the battle which is waged by Mr. Spurgeon with relentless animosity, and with Gospel weapons, against irreligion, cant, hypocrisy, pride, and those secret bosom-sins which so easily beset a man in daily life; and to sum up all in a word, it is enough to say of the man himself, that he impresses you with a perfect conviction of his sincerity.” More than a hundred years after his death, Charles Spurgeon’s legacy continues to effectively inspire the church around the world. For this reason, Delmarva Publications has chosen to republish the complete works of Charles Spurgeon.
