Book For Hire Messenger of God

Download or read book For Hire Messenger of God written by Art Burton and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2010-05 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Well-known and wealthy, Matthew Lane drives his cherry red Cadillac like he owns the road. Some would describe his compulsive driving as maniac. So when Lane's speeding car collides with a power pole, killing him instantly, it's likely that the incident is just another fatal traffic accident. Detective Sergeant Jim McDonald, a sixteen-year veteran policeman, is on the same road as Lane that day. The accident comes within a coat of paint of including him on the casualty list. As an eyewitness and first on the scene, McDonald senses there is something strange about the accident. These suspicions dominate his waking life in ways he doesn't believe possible. McDonald's misgivings are further confirmed with two subsequent car accidents. The first involves a victim intoxicated to the point that driving a car seems almost impossible. The second event shocks the detective with a case of now you see me, now you don't. McDonald must discover the evidence that links the three accidents before anyone else loses their life.

Download or read book Prophets in the Quran written by Brannon Wheeler and published by A&C Black. This book was released on 2002-06-18 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What was the name of Noah's son who did not survive the Flood? Why do Pharaoh and Haman build the Tower of Babel? For what reasons does Moses travel to the ends of the Earth? Who is the 'Horned-One' who holds back Gog and Magog until the Day of Judgement? These are some of the questions answered in the oral sources and Quran commentaries on the stories of the prophets as they are understood by Muslims. Designed as an introduction to the Quran with particular emphasis on parallels with Biblical tradition, this book provides a concise but detailed overview of Muslim prophets from Adam to Muhammad. Each of the chapters is organized around a particular prophet, including an English translation of the relevant verses of the Quran and a wide selection of classical, medieval and modern Muslim commentaries on those verses. Quran commentaries include references to Sunni and Shi'i sources from Spain, Central Asia, the Middle East and Africa. An extensive glossary provides an annotated list of all scholarly transmitters and cited texts with suggestions for further reading. This is an excellent book for undergraduate courses, and students in divinity and seminary programmes. Comparisons between the Quran and Bible, and among Jewish, Christian and Islamic exegesis are highlighted. Oral sources, references adapted from apocryphal and pseudepigraphical works, and inter-religious dialogue are all evident throughout these stories of the prophets. This material shows how the Quran and its interpretation are integral to a fuller and more discerning understanding of the Bible and its place in the history of Western religion.

Book The History of al abar Vol 6

  • Publisher : SUNY Press
  • Release : 1988-01-01
  • ISBN : 9780887067068
  • Pages : 230 pages

Download or read book The History of al abar Vol 6 written by Abū Jaʿfar Muḥammad ibn Jarīr al-Ṭabarī and published by SUNY Press. This book was released on 1988-01-01 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The sixth volume of the translation of al-Ṭabarī's History deals with the ancestors of Muḥammad, with his own early life, and then with his prophetic mission up to the time of his Hijrah or emigration to Medina. The topics covered mean that this volume is of great importance both for the career of Muhammad himself and for the early history of Islam. Al-Ṭabarī was familiar with, and made use of, the main early source of these matters, the Sirah or life of Muḥammad by Ibn Isḥāq, a work which is still extant. Although his own treatment is briefer than that of Ibn Isḥāq, it complements the latter in important ways by making use of other sources. Where Ibn Isḥāq gave only the version of an event which he preferred, al-Ṭabarī includes any variants which he considered of value. Thus he mentions the dispute about the first male to become a muslim--'Ali or Abū Bakr or Zayd--and has also several variant accounts of the call to hostility toward Muhammad from many of the leading Meccans and their attempts to put pressure on his family to stop his preaching. The negotiations with the men of Medina which eventually led to the Hijrah are fully described, and there is then an account of how Muḥammad escaped an assassination attempt and arrived safely in Medina. A concluding section discusses some chronological questions. This volume does not merely give a straightforward account of the earlier career of Muḥammad and the beginnings of Islam, but also contains valuable source-material not easily accessible otherwise, or not accessible at all.

Download or read book Old Testament Theology written by Paul R. House and published by InterVarsity Press. This book was released on 2012-11-30 with total page 658 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The discipline of Old Testament theology continues to be in flux as diverse approaches vie for dominance. Paul House serves as our guide—without being partisan or uninformed—exploring each Old Testament book, summarizing its content and showing its theological significance within the whole of the Old Testament canon. Readers with little prior background will find House’s thematic surveys particularly helpful for coming to grips with basic biblical content as well as for probing the theological nuances of individual parts of the canon. The book concludes by forging a set of summary statements concerning God and his character, the people of God, and links between the Old and New Testaments that suggest avenues for the exploration of a full biblical theology. Old Testament Theology offers an overview of the discipline and a fair treatment of differing views while remaining unabashedly evangelical. Readers will welcome the obvious passion of its author for the subject matter. Student friendly and useful to a wide audience, this impressive work has proved a profitable read for many.

Book The Ministry of the Word Vol 12 No 10

Download or read book The Ministry of the Word Vol 12 No 10 written by Various Authors and published by Living Stream Ministry. This book was released on 2008-10-01 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This issue of The Ministry of the Word includes the last nine messages of the 2007 spring term of the full-time training in Anaheim, California. The general subject of this series of messages is "The Believers." In the final two messages of the previous issue, we covered ten symbols of the believers in the Bible--the wheat of life, the good seed, the salt of the earth, the light of the world, the fishers of men, a lamp, a city situated upon a mountain, the sun, virgins, and plants. In this issue we will consider thirty-one more symbols of the believers in the Bible--living stones, sheep, vessels of mercy unto honor and glory, grains of wheat, branches of the vine, branches of the cultivated olive tree, a wise master builder, stewards, a spectacle, the offscouring of the world and the scum of all things, the temple of the Holy Spirit, threshing oxen, contenders in a game, runners in a race, workman in carpentry, nursing mother, father, captives of Christ in His triumphal procession, incense-bearers, ambassadors, letters of Christ, mirrors, earthen vessels, pillars, luminaries, a laboring husbandman, a good soldier, stars, the man-child, the firstfruits and the harvest, and jasper and other precious stones. These symbols of the believers help us to see who we are in Christ and who Christ is in us. Seeing who we are in Christ and who Christ is in us will revolutionize our living and bring us into the life and living of the divine-human mystical incorporation of the Triune God. In this divine-human incorporation the Triune God abides in us, and we abide in the Triune God as the mutual abode of God and man, in which we are being built together and structured together with the Triune God to be the New Jerusalem. There are no reports or announcements in this issue.

With so many agendas competing for pulpit time these days, it can be easy to forget the exact purpose of our Christian calling: to proclaim God's salvation through Jesus who died and is now resurrected. Preaching Evangelistically looks at the different elements of gospel preaching and how they are best used to effectively proclaim Jesus. They include: sermon setting, text selection, preparation, preaching with biblical authority, giving an invitation, and "hiding behind the cross as you preach." Also here are eyes-on text examples of evangelistic sermons from selected preachers. Cowriter Al Fasol states, "The purpose of our book is to provide information on preaching evangelistically with integrity, with biblical accuracy, with appeal to contemporary listeners, and absolutely for the glory of God."--Back cover.

Book The Rhetoric of Characterization of God Jesus and Jesus Disciples in the Gospel of Mark

Download or read book The Rhetoric of Characterization of God Jesus and Jesus Disciples in the Gospel of Mark written by Paul L. Danove and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2005-03-28 with total page 203 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study develops a method for analyzing the semantic and narrative rhetoric of repetition and the narrative rhetoric and function of characterization and applies this method in studies of the characterization of God, Jesus, and Jesus' disciples in the Gospel of Mark. The studies of characterization distinguish beliefs that are assumed for the audience from beliefs that the narration cultivates for the audience, identifies the rhetorical relationships and organization of cultivated beliefs, and clarifies the contribution of each character's portrayal to the overall narrative development of Mark. The study then considers the contribution of the characterization of the women at the tomb to the portrayal of Jesus' disciples and narrative developments. A concluding inquiry investigates the possible applications of the studies of characterization for determining the rhetorical exigency of the narration and for formulating statements of Mark's proposed theology.
