Book SPAIN S FOOTPRINTS IN PHILADELPHIA

Download or read book SPAIN S FOOTPRINTS IN PHILADELPHIA written by Emiliano Martin and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2020-01-19 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Spain's Footprints in Philadelphia" brings to life an unknown Colonial history in the city. It is a recount of almost forgotten historic happenings, carried out by people from Spain in the city of Philadelphia. It is an authentic display of information, a touching story narrated by someone with experience as an immigrant from Spain in North America. Without being an extensive work of investigation, it is indeed an interesting attempt to chronologically describe the daily steps taken by Spaniards that somehow left behind an indelible set of footprints worth mentioning. Their stories were often ignored, but not forgotten in the memory of those who are fond of the past. In a way this book is a dedication to those who helped to mold the American frame and maintain the "Spanish torch" lit while away from their homeland of Spain.

Book An Overview of the Pre suppression Society of Jesus in Spain

Download or read book An Overview of the Pre suppression Society of Jesus in Spain written by Patricia W. Manning and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2020-11-30 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In An Overview of the Pre-suppression Society of Jesus in Spain, Patricia W. Manning offers a survey of the Society of Jesus in Spain from its origins in Ignatius of Loyola’s early preaching to the aftereffects of its expulsion. Rather than nurture the nascent order, Loyola’s homeland was often ambivalent. His pre-Jesuit freelance sermonizing prompted investigations. The young Society confronted indifference and interference from the Spanish monarchy and outright opposition from other religious orders. This essay outlines the order’s ministerial and pedagogical activities, its relationship with women and with royal institutions, including the Spanish Inquisition, and Spanish members’ roles in theological debates concerning casuistry, free will, and the immaculate conception. It also considers the impact of Jesuits’ non-religious writings.

  • Author : Alex Hidalgo

Download or read book Trail of Footprints written by Alex Hidalgo and published by University of Texas Press. This book was released on 2019-07-12 with total page 185 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Trail of Footprints offers an intimate glimpse into the commission, circulation, and use of indigenous maps from colonial Mexico. A collection of one hundred, largely unpublished, maps from the late sixteenth to the eighteenth centuries made in the southern region of Oaxaca, anchors an analysis of the way ethnically diverse societies produced knowledge in colonial settings. Mapmaking, proposes Hidalgo, formed part of an epistemological shift tied to the negotiation of land and natural resources between the region’s Spanish, Indian, and mixed-race communities. The craft of making maps drew from social memory, indigenous and European conceptions of space and ritual, and Spanish legal practices designed to adjust spatial boundaries in the New World. Indigenous mapmaking brought together a distinct coalition of social actors—Indian leaders, native towns, notaries, surveyors, judges, artisans, merchants, muleteers, collectors, and painters—who participated in the critical observation of the region’s geographic features. Demand for maps reconfigured technologies associated with the making of colorants, adhesives, and paper that drew from Indian botany and experimentation, trans-Atlantic commerce, and Iberian notarial culture. The maps in this study reflect a regional perspective associated with Oaxaca’s decentralized organization, its strategic position amidst a network of important trade routes that linked central Mexico to Central America, and the ruggedness and diversity of its physical landscape.

Book Sustainable Policies and Practices in Energy Environment and Health Research

Download or read book Sustainable Policies and Practices in Energy Environment and Health Research written by Walter Leal Filho and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-12-15 with total page 627 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book aims to give a contribution to a more comprehensive and interdisciplinary understanding of the cross-cutting issues on energy, environment and health research topics in the current world scenario, where nations all over the world are struggling to accomplish the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and to ensure sustainable patterns for all. This interdisciplinary implies a commitment between all fields of science, working together to provide knowledge that could result in the promotion of quality of life. At the present, it is evident that not all people benefit from sustainable policies and practices and the communication between health, energy, environmental and social problems is undeniable. A call for different views could be a pathway attracting universities, stakeholders, organizations and civil society to deeply discuss how one solution does not fit all societies. Few publications are coherently handling this matter. This book is expected to fill this gap and to develop an interest in a larger audience working in general sustainable development and cross-cutting issues. This book is produced by the European School of Sustainability Science and Research (ESSSR). It gives special emphasis to state-of-the-art descriptions of approaches, methods, initiatives and projects from universities, stakeholders, organizations and civil society across the world, regarding cross-cutting issues in energy, environment and health research.

Download or read book Footprints of Assurance written by Alwin E. Bulau and published by Pickle Partners Publishing. This book was released on 2018-12-12 with total page 768 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: FOOTPRINTS OF ASSURANCE is a comprehensive and complete record of fire marks used by fire insurance companies in sixty-three countries. These insignia themselves tell the story of the development of one of the world’s most important economic institutions. Mr. Bulan enriches the story by introducing the reader to some of the men who have been responsible for the growth of the institution. He has enlivened his account with incident and anecdote so that the lay reader may share with the profession an understanding of the spirit which has from the beginning been the distinguishing feature of the enterprise of providing security against loss by fire. Collectors of fire marks will find this volume to be an indispensable guide. Economic historians will not find anywhere so full a record of these signs of security, these visible symbols of assurance, assurance which provided the climate requisite to economic growth. The volume shows nearly 1800 fire marks in half tone vignettes each with a caption giving a full description of the mark and date of organization of each company. This systematic treatment has indeed established the collecting of marks as a science and has added to the English language the word Signeviery as the name of that science.

Book Imperial Footprints

Download or read book Imperial Footprints written by James L. Newman and published by Potomac Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2004 with total page 583 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Dr. Livingstone, I presume?” The man who uttered those famous words was compared with Christopher Columbus in his day and became one of the late nineteenth century’s most newsworthy figures. Yet, one hundred years after Henry Morton Stanley’s death, his accomplishments in Africa have largely receded from public memory or have been discredited as epitomizing the wrongs inflicted by the scourge of European colonialism and its “scramble for Africa.” While numerous writers have attempted to describe the man, sometimes through highly speculative means, our understanding of the most notable aspect of Stanley’s life, his relationship to the continent, isn’t much more advanced than it was one hundred years ago. To fill this void, James L. Newman re-creates Stanley’s seven epic African journeys, explaining why he made them, what transpired en route, and what resulted. He highlights Stanley’s determination to succeed despite incredible odds and his various relationships with the people who enabled him to accomplish his objectives. And while he acknowledges Stanley’s less admirable traits, such as his penchant for stretching the truth, his capacity to be ruthless, and his tendency to demean others, Newman refuses to engage in facile speculation. Instead, he focuses on the words and deeds of a man who played a major role in shaping today’s Africa. James L. Newman’s in-depth research, detailed descriptions, and vivid prose make Stanley and Africa both a fascinating read and a notable contribution to the study of Africa, exploration, and the age of empire.

Book Sustainability Applied to Unconventional Oil and Gas Field Exploration and Development

Download or read book Sustainability Applied to Unconventional Oil and Gas Field Exploration and Development written by Armacanqui, Jesus Samuel and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2024-07-17 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the evolving environment of energy extraction, the conventional mindset that prioritizes profitability at the expense of safety and environmental concerns is becoming increasingly obsolete. The outdated dichotomy between economic gains and ecological responsibility not only risks environmental incidents but also undermines corporate standing and shared values. With stringent Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) requirements and energy transition imperatives, oil and gas operators in unconventional Fields face the challenge of navigating a web of compliance and sustainability mandates. There is a need for a paradigm shift, a comprehensive framework that integrates profitability, technological efficacy, and ecological compatibility for the sustainable exploration, development, and operation of unconventional oil and gas fields. Sustainability Applied to Unconventional Oil and Gas Field Exploration and Development, is a groundbreaking book designed to usher in this paradigm shift. This work presents a robust life cycle concept, offering a holistic framework that not only breaks free from the archaic mindset but also propels the industry towards a future where profitability and environmental responsibility are inseparable. The book provides oil and gas operators and the scientific community with a consultative source, delving into specific technologies that promote the swift implementation of economically profitable, technically effective, and ecologically compatible measures. By encouraging problem-solving discussions among stakeholders, including R & D teams, communities, and regulatory bodies, the book envisions a collaborative approach that benefits company stakeholders, local communities, and society at large without compromising the business's bottom line.
