Book Food Habits of Five Centrarchids During Filling of Beaver Reservoir 1965 66

Download or read book Food Habits of Five Centrarchids During Filling of Beaver Reservoir 1965 66 written by James W. Mullan and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stomach contents were examined from 1,886 largemouth bass, 334 spotted bass, 1,689 bluegills, 918 green sunfish, and 579 longear sunfish from the shoreline areas of Beaver Reservoir during two of the first three years of filling. Quality and quantity of food by seasons and size is related to abundance of the principal forage. Greatest volume of food were found in winter-spring months when water level rose and inudated soils for the first time; terrestrial earthworms, insects, slugs, spiders, centipedes, sowbugs, and work snakes were major foods in these seasons, particularly for fish of 101-200 mm in total length. Except for the larger bass, fish had smallest volumes in stomachs in later fall, following the decline that began when water levels stabilized in June.

Book Clinical Methods for the Assessment of the Effects of Environmental Stress on Fish Health

Download or read book Clinical Methods for the Assessment of the Effects of Environmental Stress on Fish Health written by Gary A. Wedemeyer and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Clinical methods are presented for biological monitoring of hatchery and native fish populations to assess the effects of environmental stress on fish health. The choice of methods is based on the experience of the authors and the judgment of colleagues at fishery laboratories of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Detailed analysis methods, together with guidelines for sample collection and for the intrepretation of results, are given for tests on blood (cell counts, chloride, cholesterol, clotting time, cortisol, glucose, hematocrit, hemoglobin, lactic acid, methemoglobin, osmolality, and total protein); water (ammonia and nitrate content); and liver and muscle (glycogen content).

Book Acrolein Dalapon Dichlobenil Diquat and Endothal

Download or read book Acrolein Dalapon Dichlobenil Diquat and Endothal written by Leroy C. Folmar and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Toxicity tables for the herbicides acrolein, dalapon, dichlobenil, diquat, and endothal list the test organisms, types of tests, experimental conditions, and test results. Each table is followed by a list of references. The materials provide a useful source of toxicity data on these herbicides to researchers, regulatory agencies, and manufacturers.

Book Biology of the Redtail Surfperch Amphistichus Rhodoterus from the Central Oregon Coast

Download or read book Biology of the Redtail Surfperch Amphistichus Rhodoterus from the Central Oregon Coast written by Donald E. Bennett and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Data on certain aspects of the life history of the redtail surfperch were collected along the central coast of Oregon, from April 1967 through April 1969. Annulus formation occured during February through June, usually earlier in young than in older fish. Mating occurred from late December to early January, and the young were born from July through September. The number of embryos per female ranged from 1 to 39 (mean 13.3) and increased linearly with the length and weight of the females. Food of the fish from the surf zone included crustaceans (by far the most important group in both frequency of occurrence and total volume) and (in order of decreasing importance) fishes, mollusks, and polychaetes. Parasites of the redtail surfperch were immature nematodes (Anisakinae) ; the digenetic trematode Genitocotyle acirra; the monogenetic trematode, Diclidophora sp.; and the copepods, Caligus sp., Clavella sp., and Argulus catostomi.

Book Rainbow Trout Growth in Circular Tanks

Download or read book Rainbow Trout Growth in Circular Tanks written by James L. Brauhn and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Prediction equations correlating density of fingerling rainbow trout with growth, yield, and food use efficiency indicated that ammonia nitrogen resulting from high fish densities wes responsible for reductions in all three factors. These predictable density-dependent responses present fish-culturists with alternatives of density selection for evaluation and attainment of specific goals. In examples, fish-culturists, by manipulating density, could achieve rapid growth, produce the maximum weight possible, balance yield with cost, optimize fish quality, or combine two or more of these goals.

Book Toxicity of Some Insecticides to Four Species of Malacostracan Crustaceans

Download or read book Toxicity of Some Insecticides to Four Species of Malacostracan Crustaceans written by Herman O. Sanders and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Acute and long-term (20-day) toxicities of 40 insecticides to four species of freshwater malacostracan crustaceans (the scud, crayfish, glass shrimp, and aquatic sowbug) were determined in static and intermittent-flow bioassays. An extremely wide range in toxicity was found with scuds generally being the most sensitive, followed in descending order by glass shrimp, sowbugs, and crayfish.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nifurpirinol (NFP), also know by code name P-7138, was tested for control of furunculosis, myxobacterioses, and vibriosis, and for effects on rainbow trout, coho, and chinook salmon under various conditions. Further tests are needed to verify the use of NFP for control of other bacterial diseases.

Book Studies on Selected Myxobacteria Pathogenic for Fishes and on Bacterial Gill Disease in Hatchery reared Salmonids

Download or read book Studies on Selected Myxobacteria Pathogenic for Fishes and on Bacterial Gill Disease in Hatchery reared Salmonids written by G. L. Bullock and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Morphological, physiological, and serological studies on 55 myxobacteria isolated principally from gill disease, tail rot, and other myxobacterial infections showed that a variety of myxobacteria occur in these infections. Athought there were different morphological types of myxobacteria, all strains from freshwater and estuarine sources were physiologically similar. Isolates from marine sources were physiologically less active than the other test organisms.
