Book excerpt: "Food for the Lambs; or, Helps for Young Christians" by Charles Ebert Orr can be considered a self-help manual for young Christians who found themselves in need of guidance but unable to get all the support they needed from other members of their church. Though written many years ago, this book can still, potentially, offer some interesting insight into Christianity, and, perhaps, a little help for those who need it. So long as the advice is taken with a grain of salt due to the different time period.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is much more I should like to write, but I do not think a large book is accepted by the general reader as readily as a smaller one. So lest this grows to too great a size, I have concluded to close it with what I now have written. The selections I have made from other writers are "Spiritual Declension," "Seek First the Kingdom of God," "Stirring the Eagle's Nest," "The Little Foxes," "On Dress," "Victory," and the poems "The Solitary Way," "Sometime," and the closing. I pray that the sayings of this little volume will animate many a soul to a higher, nobler, holier life. Although it is written to young Christians, it may do some good to older saints. I hope it will. I commit it to the public with no other motive than to do good.

Book excerpt: James Orr (1844-6 September 1913) was a Scottish Presbyterian minister and professor of church history and then theology. He was an influential defender of evangelical doctrine and a contributor to The Fundamentals. Orr was a vocal critic of theological liberalism (of Albrecht Ritschl especially) and helped establish Christian fundamentalism. His lectures and writings upheld the doctrines of the virgin birth and resurrection of Jesus, and the infallibility of the Bible. In contrast to modern fundamentalists and his friend B.B. Warfield, he did not agree with the stronger position of Biblical inerrancy. Like Warfield, but also unlike modern Christian fundamentalists, he advocated a position which he called "theistic evolution," but which would today be called progressive creationism.

Download or read book Feed My Lambs written by Charles Haddon Spurgeon and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2017-09-05 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is it possible for a child to get saved? Well, this question may seem to have an obvious answer. However, the implications of this answer are not as simple as the answer. Why? Because, as the Prince of Preachers noted, many believers and even pastors act and treat those children who sincerely desire to follow Christ as if their answer to the question would be totally different. In this book, Spurgeon diagnoses a disease that was and is widespread in the Evangelical community - child salvation not taken seriously - and then offers biblical and practical advice on how to avoid this, and how to use biblical wisdom and discernment to lead our children to Christ while at the same time on how to avoid giving our children a false assurance of salvation. This book has been originally published in 1897. This edition has been edited for modern readers, typeset for eBook readers, and proofread. About the author: Charles Haddon Spurgeon (1834-1892) was born in Kelvedon, Essex, England. He converted to Christianity in 1850 at a small Methodist chapel, and shortly after that he began his own ministry of preaching and teaching, and preached more than 500 sermons by the age of 20. During his ministry, he preached to more than 10 million people, wrote tens of books, and published his sermons in over 25,000 copies on a weekly basis. Charles Spurgeon suffered from poor health and he died on January 31, 1892, and was buried in London.
