Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Notwithstanding its title, the reader will not find in this book a systematic account of this huge subject. Certain classical aspects have been passed by, and the true title ought to be "Various questions of elementary combina torial analysis". For instance, we only touch upon the subject of graphs and configurations, but there exists a very extensive and good literature on this subject. For this we refer the reader to the bibliography at the end of the volume. The true beginnings of combinatorial analysis (also called combina tory analysis) coincide with the beginnings of probability theory in the 17th century. For about two centuries it vanished as an autonomous sub ject. But the advance of statistics, with an ever-increasing demand for configurations as well as the advent and development of computers, have, beyond doubt, contributed to reinstating this subject after such a long period of negligence. For a long time the aim of combinatorial analysis was to count the different ways of arranging objects under given circumstances. Hence, many of the traditional problems of analysis or geometry which are con cerned at a certain moment with finite structures, have a combinatorial character. Today, combinatorial analysis is also relevant to problems of existence, estimation and structuration, like all other parts of mathema tics, but exclusively forjinite sets.

Book Theory of Hypergeometric Functions

Download or read book Theory of Hypergeometric Functions written by Kazuhiko Aomoto and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-05-21 with total page 327 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a geometric theory of complex analytic integrals representing hypergeometric functions of several variables. Starting from an integrand which is a product of powers of polynomials, integrals are explained, in an open affine space, as a pair of twisted de Rham cohomology and its dual over the coefficients of local system. It is shown that hypergeometric integrals generally satisfy a holonomic system of linear differential equations with respect to the coefficients of polynomials and also satisfy a holonomic system of linear difference equations with respect to the exponents. These are deduced from Grothendieck-Deligne’s rational de Rham cohomology on the one hand, and by multidimensional extension of Birkhoff’s classical theory on analytic difference equations on the other.

Book Path Functions and Generalized Basic Hypergeometric Functions

Download or read book Path Functions and Generalized Basic Hypergeometric Functions written by Kevin W. J. Kadell and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1987 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Path functions and their basic properties are obtained by extending the constructive theory of partition generating functions developed by Sylvester, Durfee, Andrews and others. Path functions also arise when we have an expansion of a function satisfying a linear difference equation. Our expansions provide an interesting trade-off between complexity and rate of convergence.

Book Representation of Lie Groups and Special Functions

Download or read book Representation of Lie Groups and Special Functions written by N.Ja. Vilenkin and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 518 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1991-1993 our three-volume book "Representation of Lie Groups and Spe cial Functions" was published. When we started to write that book (in 1983), editors of "Kluwer Academic Publishers" expressed their wish for the book to be of encyclopaedic type on the subject. Interrelations between representations of Lie groups and special functions are very wide. This width can be explained by existence of different types of Lie groups and by richness of the theory of their rep resentations. This is why the book, mentioned above, spread to three big volumes. Influence of representations of Lie groups and Lie algebras upon the theory of special functions is lasting. This theory is developing further and methods of the representation theory are of great importance in this development. When the book "Representation of Lie Groups and Special Functions" ,vol. 1-3, was under preparation, new directions of the theory of special functions, connected with group representations, appeared. New important results were discovered in the traditional directions. This impelled us to write a continuation of our three-volume book on relationship between representations and special functions. The result of our further work is the present book. The three-volume book, published before, was devoted mainly to studying classical special functions and orthogonal polynomials by means of matrix elements, Clebsch-Gordan and Racah coefficients of group representations and to generaliza tions of classical special functions that were dictated by matrix elements of repre sentations.

Book Hypergeometric Functions on Domains of Positivity Jack Polynomials and Applications

Download or read book Hypergeometric Functions on Domains of Positivity Jack Polynomials and Applications written by Donald St. P. Richards and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1992 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the first set of proceedings to be devoted entirely to the theory of hypergeometric functions defined on domains of positivity. Most of the scientific areas in which these functions are applied include analytic number theory, combinatorics, harmonic analysis, random walks, representation theory, and mathematical physics - are represented here. This volume is based largely on lectures presented at a Special Session at the AMS meeting in Tampa, Florida in March 1991, which was devoted to hypergeometric functions of matrix argument and to fostering communication among representatives of the diverse scientific areas in which these functions are utilized. Accessible to graduate students and others seeking an introduction to the state of the art in this area, this book is a suitable text for advanced graduate seminar courses for it contains many open problems.

Book Hessian Polyhedra Invariant Theory And Appell Hypergeometric Functions

Download or read book Hessian Polyhedra Invariant Theory And Appell Hypergeometric Functions written by Lei Yang and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2018-03-13 with total page 317 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our book gives the complex counterpart of Klein's classic book on the icosahedron. We show that the following four apparently disjoint theories: the symmetries of the Hessian polyhedra (geometry), the resolution of some system of algebraic equations (algebra), the system of partial differential equations of Appell hypergeometric functions (analysis) and the modular equation of Picard modular functions (arithmetic) are in fact dominated by the structure of a single object, the Hessian group $mathfrak{G}’_{216}$. It provides another beautiful example on the fundamental unity of mathematics.

Book Algorithmic Combinatorics Enumerative Combinatorics Special Functions and Computer Algebra

Download or read book Algorithmic Combinatorics Enumerative Combinatorics Special Functions and Computer Algebra written by Veronika Pillwein and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-09-28 with total page 415 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is centered around the research areas of combinatorics, special functions, and computer algebra. What these research fields share is that many of their outstanding results do not only have applications in Mathematics, but also other disciplines, such as computer science, physics, chemistry, etc. A particular charm of these areas is how they interact and influence one another. For instance, combinatorial or special functions' techniques have motivated the development of new symbolic algorithms. In particular, first proofs of challenging problems in combinatorics and special functions were derived by making essential use of computer algebra. This book addresses these interdisciplinary aspects. Algorithmic aspects are emphasized and the corresponding software packages for concrete problem solving are introduced. Readers will range from graduate students, researchers to practitioners who are interested in solving concrete problems within mathematics and other research disciplines.
