Book excerpt: We live in a society where leadership is applauded and celebrated, while following is seldom discussed but often demanded by those who are usually self-appointed to lead. Everybody wants to lead, but very few have ever mastered the art of following. Where would we be in the body of Christ if the twelve disciples never made the decision to be followers of Jesus? I argue that we would have never heard the Gospel of Jesus Christ! Jesus called the disciples to be His followers, not His leaders. The disciples walked out a three-year journey to learn how to become followers, not leaders. They were then launched into the role of leadership as a result of their ability to grow through the process of following. Book excerpt: Becoming a disciple of Jesus Christ takes a long time. Heck it took those 12 men 3 years of spending everyday with Jesus in His physical presence to be well equipped! Today, we can be in Jesus' presence every day, like the disciples were, through prayer and reading the Bible. It is our prayer that this topical Bible study workbook (aimed at you men out there) will be another way for you to be shaped into a follower (disciple) of Jesus Christ. However, like Jesus' twelve disciples we have to be willing to follow the Master. Are you willing? May God complete the work He began in you! Thomas Gordon Cloud, Jr. (Tommy) is married to Alix and they have 4 children and live in Marietta, Georgia. Thomas struggles with many temptations of his flesh on a daily basis, although he has learned that through Christ he is more than a conqueror. Tommy is thankful for his parents and grandparents that, through word and deed, deliberately left a Christian heritage to him. Tommy's mission in life is "To know, follow, and love Jesus, and encourage others to do the same. And to love his wife as Christ loves the church." Robert Inman Ragsdale III (Trey) is an Atlanta native who attempts to be a servant-follower every day. Trey has been involved for over a decade in improving the world around him at the local, state, national and international levels as a business and community servant, entrepreneur, author & speaker and mentor. Trey feels he is truly blessed to have such a loving and supporting cast of family and friends and a growing relationship with Jesus Christ. He is most proud to be the husband of his wife Erin and the future father of twins (Inman & Madeline) in 2009.

Book Theoretical Perspectives of Strategic Followership

Download or read book Theoretical Perspectives of Strategic Followership written by David Baniyelme Zoogah and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-10-25 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The concept of followership, like leadership, is not new to the extent that it has been around since the beginning of creation. It is so pervasive in human interactions that attempts to study it are often met with ridicule. In the organization literature, followership, a complementary role to leadership, was often ignored until recently when scholars observed that followers have as much a role to play in the leader-follower relationship. Theoretical Perspectives of Strategic Followership focuses on one type of followership – strategic – which is an emergent phenomenon. Similar to leadership, followership has been defined as a role, process, and capacity. Indeed, others consider it as socially constructed. In addition to the definitions, the relatively sparse literature has identified antecedents, outcomes, and moderators of followership. The book combines both the macro (strategic management) and micro (psychological) foundations of strategic followership to encourage research not only among strategic management scholars but also those in the micro fields of organizational behaviour, human resources management, and industrial psychology.

Book Identity and Marginality Among New Australians

Download or read book Identity and Marginality Among New Australians written by Viktor Zander and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2004 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The series Religion and Society (RS) contributes to the exploration of religions as social systems- both in Western and non-Western societies; in particular, it examines religions in their differentiation from, and intersection with, other cultural systems, such as art, economy, law and politics. Due attention is given to paradigmatic case or comparative studies that exhibit a clear theoretical orientation with the empirical and historical data of religion and such aspects of religion as ritual, the religious imagination, constructions of tradition, iconography, or media. In addition, the formation of religious communities, their construction of identity, and their relation to society and the wider public are key issues of this series.

Book A Man s Guide to the Spiritual Disciplines

Download or read book A Man s Guide to the Spiritual Disciplines written by Patrick Morley and published by Moody Publishers. This book was released on 2008-09-01 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Spiritual disciplines are to the believer what medical school is to the doctor. A man came up to me at a conference where I was speaking and said, “Pat, do me a favor. Tell me how to be good. I already know how bad I am.” That statement captures the intent of this book – and the purpose of the spiritual disciplines. Spiritual strength, like surgical skill or athletic excellence, requires training and practice. To become the kind of man who walks with God and wields Christ’s influence in your world, you’ll want to begin a consistent regimen of spiritual exercises. In A Man’s Guide to the Spiritual Disciplines, Patrick Morley highlights twelve habits that will strengthen your walk with Christ, including: -- Experiencing God in creation -- Letting the Bible change your life -- Learning the power of prayer -- Grasping God’s greatness through worship -- Gaining strength through Sabbath -- Thriving because of fellowship -- Succeeding through wise counsel -- And more . . . By presenting each discipline with a concise overview, several examples, and application ideas to get you going, this powerful guidebook will help you develop the maturity every man of God was designed to reflect.

Book Material Mystery

    Book Details:
  • Author : Karmen MacKendrick
  • Publisher : Fordham University Press
  • Release : 2021-08-17
  • ISBN : 0823294579
  • Pages : 224 pages

Download or read book Material Mystery written by Karmen MacKendrick and published by Fordham University Press. This book was released on 2021-08-17 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Material Mystery considers three apparently anthropocentric myths that are central to Abrahamic religions—those of the primal human, the incarnated and possibly divine redeemer, and the resurrected body. At first glance, these stories reinforce a human-centered theology and point to a very anthropomorphic God. Taking them seriously seems to ignore the material turn in the humanities entirely, with the same sort of willful ignorance that some of our politicians show in declaring that their myths count as facts, or that the point of the rest of the world is to further human consumption. But it is possible, Karmen MacKendrick shows, to read these figures through a particular tradition that emerges from the Hebrew Bible, the tradition of Wisdom as a creative force. Wisdom texts are common across the ancient Near East. As the idea of creative Wisdom develops from antiquity into the middle ages, it gathers philosophical influences from a range of philosophical traditions. This exuberantly promiscuous impurity—intellectual, artistic, and theological—generates new interpretive possibilities. In these interpretations, each human-like figure opens up onto the world's matter, as an interdependent part of it, and matter is thoroughly mixed with divinity. Such mythic readings complement our factual, scientific understanding of the material world, to engage wider kinds of knowing and affective attention—particularly Wisdom's combination of care and delight.
