Book The Production of Thin Be Foils

Download or read book The Production of Thin Be Foils written by Hugh Bradner and published by . This book was released on 1948 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A procedure for making Be foils between 10−5 cm. and 10−3 cm. thick, and with diameters up to an inch and a half is described, and methods of mounting these foils are indicated. The problem of making thin Be foils was presented in connection with focusing the proton beam in the Berkeley Linear Accelerator, and although the foils are not now used in the accelerator, they have proved to be quite useful as thin targets, target supports, thin windows, etc. The Be was evaporated in vacuum and deposited on a metal collector plate. The problems encountered were: (1) obtaining reproducible quantities of evaporated Be; (2) stripping of Be from the collector plates; (3) preventing curl of the foils when they were stripped; and (4) mounting the foils.

Book Quantum Theory Informational Foundations and Foils

Download or read book Quantum Theory Informational Foundations and Foils written by Giulio Chiribella and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-12-08 with total page 525 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides the first unified overview of the burgeoning research area at the interface between Quantum Foundations and Quantum Information. Topics include: operational alternatives to quantum theory, information-theoretic reconstructions of the quantum formalism, mathematical frameworks for operational theories, and device-independent features of the set of quantum correlations. Powered by the injection of fresh ideas from the field of Quantum Information and Computation, the foundations of Quantum Mechanics are in the midst of a renaissance. The last two decades have seen an explosion of new results and research directions, attracting broad interest in the scientific community. The variety and number of different approaches, however, makes it challenging for a newcomer to obtain a big picture of the field and of its high-level goals. Here, fourteen original contributions from leading experts in the field cover some of the most promising research directions that have emerged in the new wave of quantum foundations. The book is directed at researchers in physics, computer science, and mathematics and would be appropriate as the basis of a graduate course in Quantum Foundations.

Book Biaxial Testing for Fabrics and Foils

Download or read book Biaxial Testing for Fabrics and Foils written by Paolo Beccarelli and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-01-30 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a well-structured, critical review of current design practice for tensioned membrane structures, including a detailed analysis of the experimental data required and critical issues relating to the lack of a set of design codes and testing procedures. The technical requirements for biaxial testing equipment are analyzed in detail, and aspects that need to be considered when developing biaxial testing procedures are emphasized. The analysis is supported by the results of a round-robin exercise comparing biaxial testing machines that involved four of the main research laboratories in the field. The biaxial testing devices and procedures presently used in Europe are extensively discussed, and information is provided on the design and implementation of a biaxial testing rig for architectural fabrics at Politecnico di Milano, which represents a benchmark in the field. The significance of the most recent developments in biaxial testing is also explored.

Book Vacuum Deposition onto Webs Films and Foils

Download or read book Vacuum Deposition onto Webs Films and Foils written by Charles Bishop and published by William Andrew. This book was released on 2011-06-21 with total page 545 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Roll-to-roll vacuum deposition is the technology that applies an even coating to a flexible material that can be held on a roll and provides a much faster and cheaper method of bulk coating than deposition onto single pieces or non-flexible surfaces, such as glass. This technology has been used in industrial-scale applications for some time, including a wide range of metalized packaging (e.g. snack packets). Its potential as a high-speed, scalable process has seen an increasing range of new products emerging that employ this cost-effective technology: solar energy products are moving from rigid panels onto flexible substrates, which are cheaper and more versatile in a similar way, electronic circuit ‘boards’ can be produced on a flexible polymer, creating a new range of ‘flexible electronics’ products flexible displays are another area of new technology in vacuum coating, with flexible display panels and light sources emerging Charles Bishop has written this book to meet the need he identified, as a trainer and consultant to the vacuum coatings industry, for a non-mathematical guide to the technologies, equipment, processes and applications of vacuum deposition. His book is aimed at a wide audience of engineers, technicians and production management. It also provides a guide to the subject for sectors in which vacuum deposition is a novel technology, such as solar energy and flexible electronics. Bishop’s non-mathematical explanation of vacuum deposition technologies will empower a wide range of technicians, production managers and engineers in related disciplines to improve performance and maximize productivity from vacuum coating systems Provides the knowledge and understanding needed to specify systems more effectively and enhance the dialogue between non-specialists and suppliers / engineers Provides those in the rapidly expanding fields of solar energy, display panels and flexible electronics with the know-how to unlock the potential of vacuum coating to transform their processes and products

Book Robust Design of Digital Circuits on Foil

Download or read book Robust Design of Digital Circuits on Foil written by Kris Myny and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2016-09-22 with total page 181 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Covering both TFT technologies, and the theory and practice of circuit design, this book equips engineers with the technical knowledge and hands-on skills needed to make circuits on foil with organic or metal oxide based TFTs for applications such as flexible displays and RFID. It provides readers with a solid theoretical background and gives an overview of current TFT technologies including device architecture, typical parameters, and a theoretical framework for comparing different logical families. Concrete, real-world design cases, such as RFID circuits, and organic and metal oxide TFT-based 8-bit microprocessors, enable readers to grasp the practical potential of these design techniques and how they can be applied. This is an essential guide for students and professionals who need to make better transistors on foil.

Book Dynamics of Rotors on Refrigerant Lubricated Gas Foil Bearings

Download or read book Dynamics of Rotors on Refrigerant Lubricated Gas Foil Bearings written by Leister, Tim and published by KIT Scientific Publishing. This book was released on 2021-10-28 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The gas foil bearing (GFB) technology is a key factor for the transition to oil-free rotating machinery. Among numerous advantages, GFBs offer the unique ability to be lubricated with working fluids such as refrigerants. However, the computational analysis of refrigerant-lubricated GFB–rotor systems represents an interdisciplinary problem of enormous complexity. This work pushes forward existing limits of feasibility and establishes a new strategy that enables stability and bifurcation analyses.
