Download or read book Computational Physics written by Steven E. Koonin and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-03-08 with total page 656 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Computational Physics is designed to provide direct experience in the computer modeling of physical systems. Its scope includes the essential numerical techniques needed to "do physics" on a computer. Each of these is developed heuristically in the text, with the aid of simple mathematical illustrations. However, the real value of the book is in the eight Examples and Projects, where the reader is guided in applying these techniques to substantial problems in classical, quantum, or statistical mechanics. These problems have been chosen to enrich the standard physics curriculum at the advanced undergraduate or beginning graduate level. The book will also be useful to physicists, engineers, and chemists interested in computer modeling and numerical techniques. Although the user-friendly and fully documented programs are written in FORTRAN, a casual familiarity with any other high-level language, such as BASIC, PASCAL, or C, is sufficient. The codes in BASIC and FORTRAN are available on the web at http://www.computationalphysics.info. They are available in zip format, which can be expanded on UNIX, Window, and Mac systems with the proper software. The codes are suitable for use (with minor changes) on any machine with a FORTRAN-77 compatible compiler or BASIC compiler. The FORTRAN graphics codes are available as well. However, as they were originally written to run on the VAX, major modifications must be made to make them run on other machines.

There are numerous exercises with solutions.

Book The West Limerick Man Who Wrote a Dictionary T O Neill Lane

Download or read book The West Limerick Man Who Wrote a Dictionary T O Neill Lane written by Seaghan Mac an tSionnaigh and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2015 with total page 187 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Four Irish dictionaries were published in the years of the 20th century leading up to the foundation of the Irish Free State, and half of them were published by a remarkable and remarkably talented man known as T. O'Neill Lane of Templeglantine West (1852-1915), one of the most intriguing figures from a Gaelic Revival period which engendered its fair share of eccentrics. The second of his dictionaries, Lane's Larger English-Irish Dictionary / Foclóir Béarla-Gaedhilge (1916), was the first major English-Irish dictionary published in the 20th century. He died the day after he saw it materialise before him. And then he was forgotten, and for no good reason. This book relates the entire story, looking at his family life, career, and legacy. Also included is a glossary of West Limerick Irish compiled from the various clues interspersed throughout O'Neill Lane's ever informative dictionary entries; a rare insight into the spoken Irish of a county for which little other sources exist.

Book An Introduction to Game Theoretic Modelling Third Edition

Download or read book An Introduction to Game Theoretic Modelling Third Edition written by Mike Mesterton-Gibbons and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2019-07-05 with total page 414 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces game theory and its applications from an applied mathematician's perspective, systematically developing tools and concepts for game-theoretic modelling in the life and social sciences. Filled with down-to-earth examples of strategic behavior in humans and other animals, the book presents a unified account of the central ideas of both classical and evolutionary game theory. Unlike many books on game theory, which focus on mathematical and recreational aspects of the subject, this book emphasizes using games to answer questions of current scientific interest. In the present third edition, the author has added substantial new material on evolutionarily stable strategies and their use in behavioral ecology. The only prerequisites are calculus and some exposure to matrix algebra, probability, and differential equations.
