Book Focal Boundary Value Problems for Differential and Difference Equations

Download or read book Focal Boundary Value Problems for Differential and Difference Equations written by R.P. Agarwal and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The last fifty years have witnessed several monographs and hundreds of research articles on the theory, constructive methods and wide spectrum of applications of boundary value problems for ordinary differential equations. In this vast field of research, the conjugate (Hermite) and the right focal point (Abei) types of problems have received the maximum attention. This is largely due to the fact that these types of problems are basic, in the sense that the methods employed in their study are easily extendable to other types of prob lems. Moreover, the conjugate and the right focal point types of boundary value problems occur frequently in real world problems. In the monograph Boundary Value Problems for Higher Order Differential Equations published in 1986, we addressed the theory of conjugate boundary value problems. At that time the results on right focal point problems were scarce; however, in the last ten years extensive research has been done. In Chapter 1 of the mono graph we offer up-to-date information of this newly developed theory of right focal point boundary value problems. Until twenty years ago Difference Equations were considered as the dis cretizations of the differential equations. Further, it was tacitly taken for granted that the theories of difference and differential equations are parallel. However, striking diversities and wide applications reported in the last two decades have made difference equations one of the major areas of research.

Book Boundary Value Problems for Systems of Differential Difference and Fractional Equations

Download or read book Boundary Value Problems for Systems of Differential Difference and Fractional Equations written by Johnny Henderson and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2015-10-30 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Boundary Value Problems for Systems of Differential, Difference and Fractional Equations: Positive Solutions discusses the concept of a differential equation that brings together a set of additional constraints called the boundary conditions. As boundary value problems arise in several branches of math given the fact that any physical differential equation will have them, this book will provide a timely presentation on the topic. Problems involving the wave equation, such as the determination of normal modes, are often stated as boundary value problems. To be useful in applications, a boundary value problem should be well posed. This means that given the input to the problem there exists a unique solution, which depends continuously on the input. Much theoretical work in the field of partial differential equations is devoted to proving that boundary value problems arising from scientific and engineering applications are in fact well-posed. Explains the systems of second order and higher orders differential equations with integral and multi-point boundary conditions Discusses second order difference equations with multi-point boundary conditions Introduces Riemann-Liouville fractional differential equations with uncoupled and coupled integral boundary conditions

Book Nonlinear Interpolation and Boundary Value Problems

Download or read book Nonlinear Interpolation and Boundary Value Problems written by Paul W. Eloe and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2016 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This book is devoted to the study of solutions of nonlinear ODE boundary value problems as nonlinear interpolation problems. In 1967, Lasota and Opial showed that, under suitable hypotheses, if solutions of a second-order nonlinear differential equation passing through two distinct points are unique, when they exist, then, in fact, a solution passing through two distinct points does exist. That result, coupled with the pioneering work of Philip Hartman on what was then called unrestricted n-parameter families has stimulated 50 years of rapid development in the study of solutions of boundary value problems as nonlinear interpolation problems. The purpose of this book is two-fold. First, the results that have been generated in the past 50 years are collected for the first time to produce a comprehensive and coherent treatment of what is now a well-defined area of study in the qualitative theory of ordinary differential equations. Second, methods and technical tools are sufficiently exposed so that the interested reader can contribute to the study of nonlinear interpolation"--

Book Numerical Solution of Boundary Value Problems for Ordinary Differential Equations

Download or read book Numerical Solution of Boundary Value Problems for Ordinary Differential Equations written by Uri M. Ascher and published by SIAM. This book was released on 1994-12-01 with total page 620 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the most comprehensive, up-to-date account of the popular numerical methods for solving boundary value problems in ordinary differential equations. It aims at a thorough understanding of the field by giving an in-depth analysis of the numerical methods by using decoupling principles. Numerous exercises and real-world examples are used throughout to demonstrate the methods and the theory. Although first published in 1988, this republication remains the most comprehensive theoretical coverage of the subject matter, not available elsewhere in one volume. Many problems, arising in a wide variety of application areas, give rise to mathematical models which form boundary value problems for ordinary differential equations. These problems rarely have a closed form solution, and computer simulation is typically used to obtain their approximate solution. This book discusses methods to carry out such computer simulations in a robust, efficient, and reliable manner.

Book Multiple Solutions Of Boundary Value Problems A Variational Approach

Download or read book Multiple Solutions Of Boundary Value Problems A Variational Approach written by John R Graef and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2015-08-26 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Variational methods and their generalizations have been verified to be useful tools in proving the existence of solutions to a variety of boundary value problems for ordinary, impulsive, and partial differential equations as well as for difference equations. In this monograph, we look at how variational methods can be used in all these settings. In our first chapter, we gather the basic notions and fundamental theorems that will be applied in the remainder of this monograph. While many of these items are easily available in the literature, we gather them here both for the convenience of the reader and for the purpose of making this volume somewhat self-contained. Subsequent chapters deal with the Sturm-Liouville problems, multi-point boundary value problems, problems with impulses, partial differential equations, and difference equations. An extensive bibliography is also included.

Book Elementary Differential Equations and Boundary Value Problems

Download or read book Elementary Differential Equations and Boundary Value Problems written by William E. Boyce and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2021-10-19 with total page 642 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Elementary Differential Equations and Boundary Value Problems, 12th Edition is written from the viewpoint of the applied mathematician, whose interest in differential equations may sometimes be quite theoretical, sometimes intensely practical, and often somewhere in between. In this revision, new author Douglas Meade focuses on developing students conceptual understanding with new concept questions and worksheets for each chapter. Meade builds upon Boyce and DiPrima’s work to combine a sound and accurate (but not abstract) exposition of the elementary theory of differential equations with considerable material on methods of solution, analysis, and approximation that have proved useful in a wide variety of applications. The main prerequisite for engaging with the program is a working knowledge of calculus, gained from a normal two or three semester course sequence or its equivalent. Some familiarity with matrices will also be helpful in the chapters on systems of differential equations.

Book Partial Differential Equations and Boundary Value Problems with Applications

Download or read book Partial Differential Equations and Boundary Value Problems with Applications written by Mark A. Pinsky and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2011 with total page 545 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Building on the basic techniques of separation of variables and Fourier series, the book presents the solution of boundary-value problems for basic partial differential equations: the heat equation, wave equation, and Laplace equation, considered in various standard coordinate systems--rectangular, cylindrical, and spherical. Each of the equations is derived in the three-dimensional context; the solutions are organized according to the geometry of the coordinate system, which makes the mathematics especially transparent. Bessel and Legendre functions are studied and used whenever appropriate throughout the text. The notions of steady-state solution of closely related stationary solutions are developed for the heat equation; applications to the study of heat flow in the earth are presented. The problem of the vibrating string is studied in detail both in the Fourier transform setting and from the viewpoint of the explicit representation (d'Alembert formula). Additional chapters include the numerical analysis of solutions and the method of Green's functions for solutions of partial differential equations. The exposition also includes asymptotic methods (Laplace transform and stationary phase). With more than 200 working examples and 700 exercises (more than 450 with answers), the book is suitable for an undergraduate course in partial differential equations.

Book Boundary Value Problems For Functional Differential Equations

Download or read book Boundary Value Problems For Functional Differential Equations written by Johnny L Henderson and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1995-10-12 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Functional differential equations have received attention since the 1920's. Within that development, boundary value problems have played a prominent role in both the theory and applications dating back to the 1960's. This book attempts to present some of the more recent developments from a cross-section of views on boundary value problems for functional differential equations.Contributions represent not only a flavor of classical results involving, for example, linear methods and oscillation-nonoscillation techiques, but also modern nonlinear methods for problems involving stability and control as well as cone theoretic, degree theoretic, and topological transversality strategies. A balance with applications is provided through a number of papers dealing with a pendulum with dry friction, heat conduction in a thin stretched resistance wire, problems involving singularities, impulsive systems, traveling waves, climate modeling, and economic control. With the importance of boundary value problems for functional differential equations in applications, it is not surprising that as new applications arise, modifications are required for even the definitions of the basic equations. This is the case for some of the papers contributed by the Perm seminar participants. Also, some contributions are devoted to delay Fredholm integral equations, while a few papers deal with what might be termed as boundary value problems for delay-difference equations.
