Download or read book Fluorine Magnetic Resonance Imaging written by Ulrich Flogel and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2016-10-26 with total page 462 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the past decade, fluorine (19F) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has garnered significant scientific interest in the biomedical research community owing to the unique properties of fluorinated materials and the 19F nucleus. Fluorine has an intrinsically sensitive nucleus for MRI. There is negligible endogenous 19F in the body and thus there is no background signal. Fluorine-containing compounds are ideal tracer labels for a wide variety of MRI applications. Moreover, the chemical shift and nuclear relaxation rate can be made responsive to physiology via creative molecular design. This book is an interdisciplinary compendium that details cutting-edge science and medical research in the emerging field of 19F MRI. Edited by Ulrich Flögel and Eric Ahrens, two prominent MRI researchers, this book will appeal to investigators involved in MRI, biomedicine, immunology, pharmacology, probe chemistry, and imaging physics.

Book excerpt: A detailed investigation of the reaction of a series of pyridines with titanium tetrafluoride has been carried out with high-resolution fluorine-19 nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. Instead of the formation of only simple diadducts a mixture of products is found in the solvent acetonitrile. The main species are TiF4 - 2D, TiF3 - 3D(+) and TiF5 - D( - ). An extensive series of TiF5 - d( - ) complex ions is studied by (19)F nmr. Linear correlations of the chemical shifts of the fluorines in TiF4 - 2D and TiF5 - D( - ) complexes are found with the pKa values of the substituted pyridines. Some complexes of TiF4 with bidentate ligands are reported as well as some products with sulfur containing ligands. Fluorine-19 nmr data are also given for some GeF4 - 2D adducts where D represents some substituted pyridine 1-oxides. Geometrical isomers were found with GeF4 - 2D compounds and both first and second order nmr spectra were measured. (Modified author abstract).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Biological magnetic resonance (NMR and EPR) is a rapidly expanding area of research with much activity in most universities and research institutions. International conferences are held biennially with an increasing number of participants. With the introduction of sophisticated and continuously im proving instrumentation, biological magnetic resonance is approaching the state of a common physical method in biochemical, biomedical, and bio logical research. The lack of monograpbs on the subject had been con spicuous for a long time. This gap started to close only recently. However, because of the rapid expansion and intensive research, many texts are dated by the time of their appearance. Therefore we have undertaken the editing of a series that is intended to provide the practicing chemist, biochemist, or biologist with the advances and progress in selected contemporary topics. In seeking to make the series as authoritative as possible, we have invited authors who have not only made significant contributions but who are also currently active in their fields. We hope that their expertise as well as their first hand experience as reflected in the chapters of this volume will be of benefit to the reader, inter alia, in planning his own experiments and in critically evaluating the current literature.

Download or read book Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy in Environmental Chemistry written by Mark A. Nanny and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 1997-04-03 with total page 341 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book demonstrates the usefulness of NMR spectroscopy for a wide variety of applications in environmental science and technology. It contains a wealth of information relating to instrumentation, sample preparation, and data interpretation. The book is divided into three sections discussing contaminant interaction, solution and condensed-phase characterization, and nutrients and natural organic matter characterization. In addition to these in-depth chapters, an introductory overview provides the basic principles of solution and solid-state NMR spectroscopy. Each section also contains a discussion of advances in each area directly attributable to NMR spectroscopy. A final chapter suggests future directions for the deployment of this powerful technology in environmental science.
