Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fluidization is a technique that enables solid particles to take on some of the properties of a fluid. Despite being very widely used within the food processing industry, understanding of this important technique is often limited. Applications of Fluidization to Food Processing sets out the established theory of fluidization and relates this to food processing applications, particularly in: • Drying • Freezing • Mixing • Granulation • Fermentation This important and thorough book, written by Peter Smith, who has many years’ experience teaching and researching in food processing, is an essential tool and reference for food scientists and technologists, and engineers working within the food industry. Libraries, and research and development groups within all universities and research establishments where food science, food studies, food technology, physics and engineering are studied and taught should have copies of this useful book.

Book Processing of Particulate Solids

Download or read book Processing of Particulate Solids written by J.P. Seville and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over half of the products of the chemical and process industries are sold in a particulate form. The range of such products is vast: from agrochemicals to pigments, from detergents to foods, from plastics to pharmaceuticals. However, surveys of the performance of processes designed to produce particulate products have consistently shown inadequate design and poor reliability. `Particle technology' is a new subject facing new challenges. Chemical and process engineering is becoming less concerned with the design of plants to produce generic simple chemicals (which are often single phase fluids) and is now more concerned with speciality `effect' chemicals which may often be in particulate form. Chemical and process engineers are also being recruited in increasing numbers into areas outside their tranditional fields, such as the food industry, pharmaceuticals and the manufacture of a wide variety of consumer products. This book has been written to meet their needs. It provides comprehensive coverage of the technology of particulate solids, in a form which is both accessible and concise enough to be useful to engineering and science students in the final year of an undergraduate degree, and at Master's level. Although it was written with students of chemical engineering in mind, it will also be of use and interest to students of other disciplines. It comprises an account of the fundamentals of teh subject, illustrated by worked examples, and followed by a wide range of selected applications.

Book Flat Panel Display Technologies

Download or read book Flat Panel Display Technologies written by Lawrence E. Tannas and published by William Andrew. This book was released on 1995-12-31 with total page 909 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Large scale manufacturing of liquid crystal flat panel displays (LCDs) by Japan brought the world's attention to the existence of an enormous market potential exists when there are alternatives to the cathode ray tube (CRT). The Japanese have recognized that new display technologies are critical to making their products highly competitive in the world market. The CRT is losing market share to the solid-state flat panel display. Japan currently holds 90% of the market, and this book outlines opportunities in the former Soviet Union, where companies with the necessary technology are seeking partners, investment, and manufacturing opportunities. Entire cities that were once not even on the map due to their military mission, are now appearing, filled with state-of-the-art electronic technology. The book is developed from the reports issued by investigators based on their field visits to 33 sites in Japan, and 26 sites in Russia, Ukraine, and Belarus.

Book Fluidized Bed Technology

Download or read book Fluidized Bed Technology written by J. R. Howard and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1989-07-01 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fluidized beds have been known for over a century, yet widespread application has only occurred in the last fifty years. They are now one of the most important chemical engineering technologies. Applications range from oil refining to drying processes, solids handling systems, boilers, metallurgical heat treatment furnaces and environmental protection measures. Fluidized Bed Technology: Principles and Applications presents the essential facts about beds of solid particles when fluidized by gases, and explains how the technology has been applied to yield fluidized bed boilers, furnaces, heat recovery systems and process plants. The text is accompanied by worked examples, using elementary mathematics, to illustrated practical considerations, and contains comprehensive references for further reading. Fluidized Bed Technology: Principles and Applications will give the reader confidence to pursue the subject in greater depth and develop their own ideas. This will be a useful text for engineering students, practising professional engineers, engineering consultants, fuel technologists, R & D engineers and scientists, and any who may have to train staff in this area.

Book Handling of Bulk Solids

Download or read book Handling of Bulk Solids written by P. A. Shamlou and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Handling of Bulk Solids provides a comprehensive discussion of the field of solids flow and handling in the process industries. Presentation of the subject follows classical lines of separate discussions for each topic, so each chapter is self-contained and can be read on its own. Topics discussed include bulk solids flow and handling properties; pressure profiles in bulk solids storage vessels; the design of storage silos for reliable discharge of bulk materials; gravity flow of particulate materials from storage vessels; pneumatic transportation of bulk solids; and the hazards of solid-materials handling and processing along with their prevention. Worked-out examples are included at the end of each chapter to familiarize the reader with the numerical manipulations and orders of magnitude of various parameters which occur in the subject of bulk solids handling. Because of the complicated form of most of the design equations involved, the computer is an ideal vehicle for the solution of many design problems in bulk solids handling. This book is suitable for advanced undergraduate and postgraduate levels as well as for practitioners in industry.

Book Bulk Solids Handling

Download or read book Bulk Solids Handling written by C.R. Woodcock and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1988-08-31 with total page 536 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An understanding ofthe properties and the handling characteristics of liquids and gases has long been regarded as an essential requirement for most practising engineers. It is therefore not surprising that, over the years, there has been a regular appearance of books dealing with the fundamentals of fluid mechanics, fluid flow, hydraulics and related topics. What is surprising is that there has been no parallel development of the related discipline of Bulk Solids Handling, despite its increasing importance in modern industry across the world. It is only very recently that a structured approach to the teaching, and learning, of the subject has begun to evolve. A reason for the slow emergence of Bulk Solids Handling as an accepted topic of study in academic courses on mechanical, agricultural, chemical, mining and civil engineering is perhaps that the practice is so often taken for granted. Certainly the variety of materials being handled in bulk is almost endless, ranging in size from fine dust to rocks, in value from refuse to gold, and in temperature from deep-frozen peas to near-molten metal.
