Book excerpt: Fluid Mixing II documents the proceedings of a symposium organized by the Yorkshire Branch and the Fluid Mixing Processes Subject Group of the Institution of Chemical Engineers and held at Bradford University, on 3-5 April 1984. The conference covers all aspects of mixing including the assessment of mixture quality, experimental and theoretical studies of mixing, chemical reaction and mass transfer, heat transfer, novel experimental techniques, scale-up and optimization. This volume contains 12 papers that deal with topics such as drawdown of floating solids into mechanically agitated vessels; effects of water/cement ratio, intensity of mixing, age and cement particle size and shape upon rheological properties of cement grouts with and without admixture; and mixing of non-absorbent solids with liquids. Other studies cover the flooding transition of a Rushton turbine operating in a gas-liquid system; power consumption in a three phase (liquid-solid-gas) mixing process in a stirred vessel; and an experimental technique for studying the rate of inter-zone mixing.

Book A Guide to Fluid Mixing

Download or read book A Guide to Fluid Mixing written by James Y. Oldshue and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Guide to Fluid Mixing was written for those who desire a quick, concise approach to the principles of fluid mixing. Written primarily as an introductory text or primer for chemical engineering students, it is also useful to those in the Chemical Processing Industries (CPI) who have found the need to acquaint themselves with this topic. Unfortunately, due to heavy academic loads and time constraints imposed by the typical undergraduate curriculum, many chemical engineers have not had the opportunity to explore the many facets of this exciting field. Fluid mixing is indeed a topic which deserves more attention than it has received if, for no other reason, one considers its tremendous impact on almost every production process and every industrial and consumer product. In addition, this book also contains a laboratory manual which covers a broad selection of fluid mixing experiments.

Book Fluid Mechanics of Mixing

    Book Details:
  • Author : R. King
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2013-03-09
  • ISBN : 9401579733

Download or read book Fluid Mechanics of Mixing written by R. King and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is a selection of the material presented at the 7th European Mixing Congress. It is concerned exclusively with mixing in circular section vessels, using centrally mounted paddles or similar impellers. The contents are arranged under three classifications: Modelling of Mixing Processes, Mixing Operations and Experimental Techniques. The classifications result in the original material appearing in a different order to that of the Congress. This arrangement is intended to assist the reader in identifying the topic area by function or application, rather than by technology. In this book the section on Modelling contains papers which focus on the representation of the mixing process, whether by equation, scale-up criteria, or fluid dynamic simulation. Similarly, Mixing Operations are concerned with the application or function of the mixing process, such as mass transfer, heat transfer or mixing time. Experimental Techniques addresses the tools the researcher needs to use at the data gathering experimental stage. It collects together advances made in the various methods used by some of the foremost researchers, and indicates those areas still in need of additional instrumentation or methods of data reduction. The book is intended for researchers, designers and users of mixing equipment, and for those planning research and development programmes and who wish to keep up to date with advances in the basic technology and its applications.

Book Solid Solid Fluid Solid Fluid Fluid Mixers

Download or read book Solid Solid Fluid Solid Fluid Fluid Mixers written by Jean-Paul Duroudier and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-09-02 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Solid-Solid, Fluid-Solid, Fluid-Fluid Mixers, part of the Industrial Equipment for Chemical Engineering set, presents an in-depth study of a variety of aspects within the field of chemical engineering. This volume is both theoretical and practical, focusing on emulsions of one liquid into another, the dispersal of a divided solid into a liquid, and a gas into a liquid. The book includes examples of mixtures of two powders, the process of dissolution of a powder in a liquid, and the homogenization of a pasty product. The types of devices needed, the criterion for homogeneity, the expended mechanical power, the flow processed, and the time required for the operation are also discussed. The author provides methods needed for understanding the equipment used in applied thermodynamics in the hope of encouraging students and engineers to self build the programs they need. Chapters are complemented with appendices that provide additional information and associated references. Presents advanced study on the dispersion of a gas in a liquid and the dispersion of a liquid insoluble in another liquid (emulsification) Includes specific cases of dispersion and dissolution of powders Provides criteria for evaluating the homogeneity of a mixture
