Download or read book Tobacco Situation Vol 163 written by United States Department Of Agriculture and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-18 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Tobacco Situation, Vol. 163: March 1978 For the 1978 cr0p year, tobacco production costs are expected to increase again primarily due to higher wage rates. Interest rates, along with machinery and equipment prices, also have increased. Some increases are expected for electricity, gas, and curing fuel costs. Fertilizer, herbicides, insecticides, and other chemicals are in adequate supply at prices near last season's levels. As a result of an increase in 1978 wage rates similar to recent trend (8 percent annually) and higher prices of other inputs previously mentioned, the 1978 flue-cured tobacco crop will probably cost around 3 to 4 cents more per pound to produce than in 1977. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Tobacco Situation: June 1962 The overall levels of Government price support for the eligible kinds of tobacco produced in 1962 are 1 percent above those for 1961, 1960, and 1959 years during which they remained unchanged. By law, the basis for year-to-year adjustments in overall support levels is comparison of the average of the parity index in the most recent 3 calendar years with its 1959 level. (the parity in dex is the index of prices paid by farmers, including interest, taxes, and farm wage rates.) Specific loan rates for individual grades of each kind of tobacco are determined before its marketing season begins. Flue-cured production this year is expected to exceed 1961 by around 5 percent. This year's crop plus the carryover will provide a little larger total supply for 1962-63 than for 1961-62. Domestic use of flue-cured in the past year probably increased a little, and exports held about even compared with a year earlier. Flue-cured marketings usually begin in the latter half of July. On an experimental basis, Government price support will be made available for untied flue-cured tobacco of certain grades during the first five sale days in the markets of Belts where price support previously has been available only for tied flue-cured tobacco. Heretofore, price supports have been available for untied flue-cured only in the georgia-florida Belt, where tobacco tradition ally has been marketed in that form.
