Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I was born in Kingsport, Tennessee, but moved to northern Maryland as a small child. We lived on an 86 acre farm close to the Pennsylvania line. I was the tenth living child born in my family of six boys and six girls. We were raised very southern, and were raised going to church. I was always a very avid reader and so in my adult life I started reading and studying scripture and attended ministry school to continue learning. I realized that the greatest commandment was to love the Lord with all your heart, soul, and mind; and to love your neighbor as yourself. My mother always said I would someday write a book. I always doubted that, but started writing poems after my grandchildren were born. As the years passed, I wrote more and more to encourage others along their way. The difference was I was inspired to write, I would hear a few words, or a line of poetry then sit down and write what I heard. So the words became gifts of love and the poems came through me, not from me. The Holy Spirit is more real to me than my very flesh. I heard one day, call the book "Flowers from God's Garden," as the words are gifts you give others just as you send beautiful flowers, you can send beautiful words. So a heart was also placed on each page, as they flowed from the heart of God. Please feel free to send any of the words here to others as you see one of your friends or loved ones in these words of love, meant to inspire or just plain "bless their hearts."

Book Gods and Goddesses in the Garden

Download or read book Gods and Goddesses in the Garden written by Peter Bernhardt and published by Rutgers University Press. This book was released on 2008-03-11 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Zeus, Medusa, Hercules, Aphrodite. Did you know that these and other dynamic deities, heroes, and monsters of Greek and Roman mythology live on in the names of trees and flowers? Some grow in your local woodlands or right in your own backyard garden. In this delightful book, botanist Peter Bernhardt reveals the rich history and mythology that underlie the origins of many scientific plant names. Unlike other books about botanical taxonomy that take the form of heavy and intimidating lexicons, Bernhardt's account comes together in a series of interlocking stories. Each chapter opens with a short version of a classical myth, then links the tale to plant names, showing how each plant "resembles" its mythological counterpart with regard to its history, anatomy, life cycle, and conservation. You will learn, for example, that as our garden acanthus wears nasty spines along its leaf margins, it is named for the nymph who scratched the face of Apollo. The shape-shifting god, Proteus, gives his name to a whole family of shrubs and trees that produce colorful flowering branches in an astonishing number of sizes and shapes. Amateur and professional gardeners, high school teachers and professors of biology, botanists and conservationists alike will appreciate this book's entertaining and informative entry to the otherwise daunting field of botanical names. Engaging, witty, and memorable, Gods and Goddesses in the Garden transcends the genre of natural history and makes taxonomy a topic equally at home in the classroom and at cocktail parties.

  • Author : Andrew Peterson
  • Publisher : B&H Publishing Group
  • Release : 2021-10-26
  • ISBN : 108773696X

Download or read book The God of the Garden written by Andrew Peterson and published by B&H Publishing Group. This book was released on 2021-10-26 with total page 157 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There’s a strong biblical connection between people and trees. They both come from dirt. They’re both told to bear fruit. In fact, arboreal language is so often applied to humans that it’s easy to miss, whether we're talking about family trees, passing along our seed, cutting someone off like a branch, being rooted to a place, or bearing the fruit of the Spirit. It’s hard to deny that trees mean something, theologically speaking. This book is in many ways a memoir, but it’s also an attempt to wake up the reader to the glory of God shining through his creation. One of the first commands to Adam and Eve was to “work and keep” the garden. Award-winning author and songwriter Andrew Peterson, being as honest as possible, shares a story of childhood, grief, redemption, and peace, by walking through a forest of memories: “I trust that by telling my story, you’ll encounter yours. Hopefully, like me, you’ll see that the God of the Garden is and has always been present, working and keeping what he loves.” Sometimes he plants, sometimes he prunes, but in his goodness he intends to reap a harvest of righteousness.

Book excerpt: Flower of God tells the story of the author¿s paternal ancestral family from the time of the Temple of Solomon to the present: their migration from ancient Israel to Babylon, to Persia, to Anatolia, to Europe and finally to the United States. Dr. Herbert Ausubel¿s saga of his family history is a captivating story of the Jewish experience, at once universal and unique. It is Everyman¿s tale, and the family¿s struggles are immediately recognized by anyone who knows something of the immigrant¿s journey, whatever the ethnicity. It is easy to empathize with the characters because Ausubel captures their humanity, and their difficult search for a hard-won life of dignity, purpose and acceptance. This book is a testament to the unbelievable courage of the Jewish people and the indomitable human spirit. William Faulkner¿s marvelous Nobel Prize acceptance speech provides the perfect summary of their struggle: ¿We will not merely endure, we will prevail.¿

Book God s Wild Flowers Saints with Disabilities

Download or read book God s Wild Flowers Saints with Disabilities written by Pia Matthews and published by . This book was released on 2016-06-07 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This important book is about a particularly rich harvest, saints with disabilities, God's wild flowers. St Therese of Lisieux speaks of God's living garden made of a great variety of flowers. People with disabilities are often on the margins and some find it hard to find their place in a Church that is often seen as emphasizing perfection. This book tells the stories of 141 saints and blessed, some well known and some less well known. All of them had disabilities or long term conditions ranging from cancer, physical disability to mental frailty, depression and learning difficulties. None of them were cured, and none of them were declared saints in spite of their disabilities. Given the number of people who are sick or have disabilities, it should come as no surprise that many are counted among the saints."

Download or read book There is a Flower in God s Garden written by Amos Jordan and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2022-04-11 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is a flower in Gods Garden is Inspired by events working alongside the dying and caring for the sick and elderly. Amos writes from the heart in this small but powerful book of poetry. Poems here-in traverse things such as Love, faith, hope, wonder, courage, wisdom, mysticism, inspiration and prayer. This book shows our connection with a God that cares, who is always there and near to help us. Amongst the mists of life, we so often feel adrift, alone and confused; we are as if swimming in the myriad of experiences and circumstances we find ourselves in. Life can be at times complicated, depressing, and discouraging. A question we sometimes ask is... "How can we face the burdens that we must carry through life?" God reminds us though that there are always ways through our events, only God can provide the clues to the answers we seek. This book also covers thoughts relating to religion, Christianity, and poetry in general - with a New Zealand and Oceanian perspective.
