This book was released on 2013-02-20 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph presents a comprehensive taxonomic revision of the hyperdiverse Neotropical beetle genus Operclipygus Marseul. Operclipygus occurs almost throughout the Americas, but there are few species that extend beyond the diverse tropical regions.ÿ The genus was originally defined very narrowly, for just a single unusual species (the type species O. sulcistrius). However, evolutionary considerations have led to a much broader conception of the genus, and it is now one of the largest in the entire family Histeridae, containing 177 species. In this paper 138 species are described as new. Identification keys are presented to allow identification of all the species, and most species are illustrated by color photographs and drawings of diagnostic characteristics. Natural history details for species of Operclipygus are scant, as most specimens have been collected through the use of passive flight interception traps. They are known to be predaceous, and many are probably generally associated with decaying vegetation and leaf litter, where they prey on small arthropods. But a small proportion are known to be inquilines, living in symbiotic relationships with social insects such as ants and termites, and also with some burrowing mammals, such as Tuco-tucos.

Download or read book West African Poetry written by Robert Fraser and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1986-09-04 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Previous studies of African poetry have tended to concentrate either on its political content or on its relationship to various European schools. This book examines West African poetry in English and French against the background of oral poetry in the vernacular. Do the roots of such poetry lie in Africa or in Europe? In committing their work to writing, do poets lose more than they gain? Can the immediacy of oral performance ever be recovered? Robert Fraser's account of two centuries of West African verse examines its subjugation to a succession of international styles: from the heroic couplet to the austerity of experimental Modernism. Successive chapters take us through the Négritude movement and the emergence of anglophone free verse in the 1950s to the rediscovery in recent years of the neglected springs of orality, which is the subject of the concluding chapter.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If the environment is deteriorated and degraded, polluted and defiled, filthy and disgraceful, concomitantly the speechless plants and animals, the motherly soil and the crazy human being besides the buildings and monuments suffer. While a few problems are occupational, water pollution is regional, and air pollution is global in its impact. The effluent rich water could be treated before disposal. However, pollutants once released in air can not be controlled. The main aim of writing this book is to provide the students of environmental science, a simple exposition of the subject. The book has been compiled from the point of view of the students to give them a thorough training in the principles and methods of environmental analysis. Recognising the need for standard methods in examination and analysis of environmental parameters has been long felt. The book starts with a chapter on environmental monitoring, followed by Physico-chemical monitoring to evaluate concentration of pollutants, Biomonitoring to evaluate pollutant effects, remote sensing and environmental stress. Environmental procedures for the common parameters have been discussed. There are many more parameters which should be monitored if the situation demands, but it becomes difficult when efforts are made at the level of an individual. The last chapter is detection of pollution by citizens to involve peoples participation in environmental monitoring.
