Download or read book Optical Diagnostics for Flow Processes written by P. Buchhave and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 387 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The origin of optical methods for fluid flow investigations appears to be nontraceable. This is no matter for surprise. After all seeing provides the most direct and common way for humans to learn about their environment. But at the same time some of the most sophisticated methods for doing measurements in fluids are also based on light and often laser light. A very large amount of material has been published in this area over the last two decades. Why then another publication? Well, the field is still in a state of rapid development. It is characterised by the use of results and methods developed within very different areas like optical physics, spectroscopy, communication systems, electronics and computer science, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering and, of course, fluid dynamics. We are not aware of a book containing both introductory and more advanced material that covers the same material as presented here. The book is the result of a compilation and expansion of material presented at a summer school on Optical Diagnosticsfor Flow Processes, held at RiS0 National Laboratory and the Technical University of Denmark in September 1993. The aim of the course was to provide a solid background for understanding, evaluating, and using modem optical diagnostic methods, addressing Ph. D. students and researchers active in areas of fluid flow research. The disciplines represented by the participants ranged from atmospheric fluid dynamics to biomedicine.
Download or read book Flowing Matter written by Federico Toschi and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-09-25 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book, published in the Soft and Biological Matter series, presents an introduction to selected research topics in the broad field of flowing matter, including the dynamics of fluids with a complex internal structure -from nematic fluids to soft glasses- as well as active matter and turbulent phenomena. Flowing matter is a subject at the crossroads between physics, mathematics, chemistry, engineering, biology and earth sciences, and relies on a multidisciplinary approach to describe the emergence of the macroscopic behaviours in a system from the coordinated dynamics of its microscopic constituents. Depending on the microscopic interactions, an assembly of molecules or of mesoscopic particles can flow like a simple Newtonian fluid, deform elastically like a solid or behave in a complex manner. When the internal constituents are active, as for biological entities, one generally observes complex large-scale collective motions. Phenomenology is further complicated by the invariable tendency of fluids to display chaos at the large scales or when stirred strongly enough. This volume presents several research topics that address these phenomena encompassing the traditional micro-, meso-, and macro-scales descriptions, and contributes to our understanding of the fundamentals of flowing matter. This book is the legacy of the COST Action MP1305 “Flowing Matter”.
Download or read book Particle Image Velocimetry written by Markus Raffel and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-08-09 with total page 460 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This immensely practical guide to PIV provides a condensed, yet exhaustive guide to most of the information needed for experiments employing the technique. This second edition has updated chapters on the principles and extra information on microscopic, high-speed and three component measurements as well as a description of advanced evaluation techniques. What’s more, the huge increase in the range of possible applications has been taken into account as the chapter describing these applications of the PIV technique has been expanded.

Download or read book Turbulent Particle Laden Gas Flows written by Aleksei Y. Varaksin and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-07-05 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents results of experimental and theoretical studies of "gas-solid particles" turbulent two-phase flows. It analyzes the characteristics of heterogeneous flows in channels (pipes), as well as those in the vicinity of the critical points of bodies subjected to flow and in the boundary layer developing on their surface. Coverage also treats in detail problems of physical simulation of turbulent gas flows which carry solid particles.

Download or read book Microscale Diagnostic Techniques written by Kenny Breuer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2005-12-06 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Microscale Diagnostic Techniques highlights the most innovative and powerful developments in microscale diagnostics. It provides a resource for scientists and researchers interested in learning about the techniques themselves, including their capabilities and limitations. The fields of Micro- and Nanotechnology have emerged over the past decade as a major focus of modern scientific and engineering research and technology. Driven by advances in microfabrication, the investigation, manipulation and engineering of systems characterized by micrometer and, more recently, nanometer scales have become commonplace throughout all technical disciplines. With these developments, an entirely new collection of experimental techniques has been developed to explore and characterize such systems.
Download or read book Diagnostic Techniques in Hematological Malignancies written by Wendy N. Erber and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2010-11-11 with total page 349 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The diagnosis and monitoring of hematological malignancies is complex and requires a systematic approach. Morphology, cell phenotyping, cytogenetics and molecular genetics are essential, and the results must be integrated. Diagnostic Techniques in Hematological Malignancies details the principles and applications of each of these test types in the diagnosis of hematological malignancies in blood and bone marrow. The first section describes the test modalities – including methodological principles, data interpretation and limitations – and is illustrated by clinical examples. The second section focuses on the clinical entities, detailing the most appropriate tests for diagnosis, staging and monitoring of different hematological malignancies and includes test utilization to identify prognostic markers and potential therapeutic targets. With contributions from multiple international experts, this illustrated book is an essential resource for qualified and trainee hematologists, oncologists, and pathologists. It's a practical and useful guide, providing a rational and structured approach to the laboratory assessment of hematological malignancies.
Download or read book Combustion Measurements written by Norman Chigier and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2024-11-01 with total page 551 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book begins with an introduction to the general problems of making measurements in high temperature and a presentation of chemically reacting flow systems. It describes each instrument with the various diagnostic techniques and discusses measurements that have been made in furnaces, flames, and rocket engines. The detailed measurement techniques described in this book cover a wide spectrum of applications in combustion systems, including gas turbine, rocket measurement techniques that were developed in laboratories. Information obtained on detailed temperature, velocity, particle size, and gas concentration distribution is leading to improve understanding of the chemical combustion process and to design imporvements in combustors.
