Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Granular Insecticides: Research Developments and Uses More and more farmers today are turning to granular insecticides to protect their crops against certain insect pests. Federally controlled eradication and control programs against the imported fire ant and other soil-inhabiting insects now rely almost exclusively on granular formulations. The fact that insecticides in granular form, under certain conditions, are more effective than insecticides in spray or dust form is one of the reasons that dictate these choices. To get the maximum benefit possible from each ounce of insecticide used in the eradication and control programs, scientists of the Agricultural Research Service continually investigate the physical and chemi cal makeup of granular formulations. These investiga tions have established the fact that standardization of granular insecticides for certain specific uses saves time and money. Other facts about granular insecticides and their use to protect fruit, vegetable, and forage crops, animals and man come from other ars research and State research in many parts of the United States. Book Insecticides and Equipment for Controlling Insects on Fruits and Vegetables Classic Reprint

Download or read book Insecticides and Equipment for Controlling Insects on Fruits and Vegetables Classic Reprint written by Neale Frederick Howard and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-13 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Insecticides and Equipment for Controlling Insects on Fruits and Vegetables Specifically, this publication deals with the nature Of the chemicals more commonly used to control insects on fruits, vegetables, and flowering plants, and gives information on how to prepare such insecticides for use against many common pests. A section is devoted to a discussion Of spraying and dusting equipment. Most insecticides will become scarce as stocks are depleted and re placement becomes difficult. It is not only thrifty, but patriotic as well, to use them carefully. Careful application of minimum amounts will do a better job than careless use Of large quantities. The aim should be to mix the material thoroughly and apply it as a light, even coating to the parts of the plant affected by the insect. Applying the material to the parts affected saves material and insures effective control of the pest. For more specific information on the control Of any pest, the entomological publications Of the State or Federal Government, or a State or Federal entomologist, or an entomologist Of some other organization, Should be consulted. If the pest is not identified, pre served or dead specimens Of the insect or a description Of its injury should accompany the request for information on control. Book excerpt: In the tradition of Silent Spring, Raoul Robinson's Return to Resistance calls for a revolution. Traditional plant breeding techniques have led us to depend more and more on chemical pesticides to protect ourcrops. Return to Resistance shows gardeners, farmers, and plant breeders how to use a long-neglected technique to create hardy new plant varieties that are naturally resistant to pests and disease. Horizontal resistance breeding has been largely ignored in this century due to the popularity and apparent successes of the Mendelian geneticists. However the colossal, unrecognized failure of m.
