This book was released on 2016-06-01 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ethnobotany deals with traditional and indigenous associations of people with plants. The subject has been attracting more and more scholars in India and many other countries. It’s importance in search for new molecules from ethnomedicinal herbs and useful genes from wild relatives and land races of crops, still in use among many native folk, for genetic engineering has enhanced the importance of the discipline. The number of books and research papers published each year has been rapidly increasing .Research workers need to know about the work done on their topic of study. Bibliographies reviews greatly help in this and save their valuable time. About 2500 publications are listed in the present book. To facilitate the search of reference on particular region, ethnic groups or use categories indexes are given for providing clues to such search. Research guides can easily spot gaps in ethnobotanical studies in any ethnic society, as also regions of the country. Biographers will find from one source the work done in single or joint authorship by the scientist on whom they are writing. To facilitate this an index by surname of joint authors is also provided. The book will be an essential reference work for research workers.

Book Research on Chrysomelidae 3

Download or read book Research on Chrysomelidae 3 written by Pierre Jolivet and published by PenSoft Publishers LTD. This book was released on 2011-12-21 with total page 187 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research on Chrysomelidae vol. 3 continues a series which began under Brill Academic Publishers, Leiden, with volume 1 in 2008. Volume 2 appeared in 2009 and had four regularly submitted papers and the Proceedings of the 7th International Symposium on the Chrysomelidae (held 6-8 July, 2008 at Durban, South Africa) with nine papers based on presentations to this meeting. The present volume also combines a number of regular papers with the proceedings of a symposium. In 2010, the European Symposium on the Biology of the Chrysomelidae was held within the frame of the IXth European Congress of Entomology (ECE) at Budapest, Hungary, on August 23. Hungary ? as the host country of the congress - has a long tradition of entomological research and always had a marked bridging role in the social life of entomologists of Europe. The ECE has been co-organized by the Hungarian Entomological Society which celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2010. The Hungarian Entomological Society is one of the oldest scientific societies in Hungary with continuous activity, including the 1950s, when most Hungarian societies were dissolved by the communist government. This congress offered an important opportunity for entomologist to exchange ideas, results, and social matters. On top of all, the city of Budapest provided a beautiful background to this memorable scientific and social event. We, the organisers of the Symposium on Chrysomelidae, are proud and happy to see our conference represented by five papers based on contributions to it in vol. 157 of ZooKeys (Research on Chrysomelidae vol. 3). Four more papers on leaf beetles complete this volume. We thank authors and publishers for helping to make research on leaf beetles more visible and easier to access.

Book Water Justice and Groundwater Subsidies in India

Download or read book Water Justice and Groundwater Subsidies in India written by Gayathri D. Naik and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-07-23 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the impact of water-related subsidies on social and distributive equity and environmental sustainability in groundwater access and regulation in India. This book argues that adopting a water justice framework is essential to ensure equitable and sustainable access to and regulation of groundwater by balancing anthropogenic and ecological water needs. The inherent inequity resulting from property rights-controlled groundwater access gets widened by the social, political, and economic factors determining the subsidy beneficiaries. Adopting a socio-legal approach, this book draws on two contrasting case studies in India: Kerala, a water-secure state, and Rajasthan, an arid state. Arguing for a shift to a new paradigm in water governance, it critically examines the feasibility of the public trust doctrine and rights of nature discourse to analyse the best suitable regulatory framework that can balance the human right to water and ecological sustainability in groundwater resources. It demonstrates the feasibility of adopting various environmental law principles that balance human rights to water and nature. It argues that the hitherto highlighted public trust doctrine cannot address these inequities due to its anthropogenic bias and property rights link. This book examines the applicability of the rights of nature discourse instead of these property rights-based regulations to incorporate and mainstream the concerns of aquifer protection in water governance. This book shall be of great interest to students, scholars, and practitioners of water law and policy, environmental law, water and social justice, development studies, and political ecology.

An extensive collection of research literature on pharmacological activities on that species is reviewed. This volume, published under the AAP Focus on Medicinal Plants book series, edited by the accomplished editor, T. Pullaiah, who has taught, researched, written, and published on medicinal plants for over 35 years, will be an important reference resource for years to come for both new and experienced medicinal researchers.

Book Bioprospecting of Tropical Medicinal Plants

Download or read book Bioprospecting of Tropical Medicinal Plants written by Karuppusamy Arunachalam and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-08-30 with total page 1509 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on natural products, in particular medicinal plants and their derived products, as an indispensable source of bioactive molecules that serve as either drug candidates or lead compounds for drug design and discovery . There are several advantages for plant-derived therapeutics, including wide availability, diverse pharmacological actions, and a generally good profile of safety and tolerability. Over the recent years, there have been numerous reports from clinical studies testifying the efficacy and safety of medicinal plants and phytochemicals in treating human diseases. A plethora of basic studies has also unraveled molecular mechanisms underlying the health benefits of herbal medicines. Nevertheless, issues such as identification of bioactive ingredients, standardization of the products, and drug interactions remain to be systematically documented. Bioprospecting of Tropical Medicinal Plants represents a comprehensive analysis of natural products, mainly medicinal plants and phytochemicals. It includes detailed medicinal properties and pharmacological action from in vitro models to clinical trials. The goal is to present the readers a carefully curated collection of plant-derived natural products and their underlying molecular mechanisms.
