Book Flood Detection Alert System for Flood Prevention and Reduction of Damages

Download or read book Flood Detection Alert System for Flood Prevention and Reduction of Damages written by Bandar Naji Ali Hezam and published by . This book was released on 2023-01-16 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scientific Essay from the year 2021 in the subject Geography / Earth Science - Meteorology, Aeronomy, Climatology, Asia Pacific University of Technology and Innovation, language: English, abstract: The project presented in this paper aims to develop a flood detection system that helps to detect floods before they occur. The system utilizes various sensors to detect potential flooding in a given area, including water level sensors, rain gauges, and temperature sensors. The data collected from these sensors is analyzed and used to generate alerts, which can be sent to authorities, emergency responders, and citizens (directly to their smartphone). The project's ultimate goal is to improve flood prevention and mitigation efforts in the country and reduce the risk of damage to infrastructure, property, and loss of life caused by flooding. By using innovative technology, this flood detection system can significantly benefit the community and help the country better prepare for future flooding events.

Book Flood Early Warning Systems

Download or read book Flood Early Warning Systems written by Daniela Molinari and published by WIT Press. This book was released on 2013 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Presenting the results of an ambitious research activity this book intends to understand why Early Warning Systems (EWSs) fail. However, from the beginning, the objective turned out to be challenging; first, because, so far, there is not a shared understanding of what an EWS is (among both researchers and practitioners communities); second, as a consequence, because it is equally unclear when an EWS can be considered successful or not. Due to this, the research needed first to face some “open questions” instead of going straight to the point under investigation. Specifically, it was first necessary to define EWS, identify its components and functions, peculiarities, and weak points. Only at that point, a first attempt to evaluate EWS performance was possible. Flood Early Warning Systems Performance is organised according to the conceptual steps required by the research. In part I the “open questions” about the definition and the role of EWSs are handled, the aim being the identification of how to evaluate their effectiveness/performance. Part II focuses on the real aim of the research, providing concepts and tools to assess EWS performance; suggested tools are also implemented in a case study to describe how they can be applied in practice. Focusing specifically on the topic of flood risk in mountainous regions, the book can be viewed as a sort of manual for EWS designers, managers, and users. It is organised into different independent sections which will appeal both to experts as well as those with an interest in the subject. Most of results can also be exported to other hazards.

Book Flood Warning Forecasting and Emergency Response

Download or read book Flood Warning Forecasting and Emergency Response written by Kevin Sene and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-08-15 with total page 307 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent flood events in Europe, the USA and elsewhere have shown the devastating impact that flooding can have on people and property. Flood warning and forecasting systems provide a well-established way to help to reduce the effects of flooding by allowing people to be evacuated from areas at risk, and for measures to be taken to reduce damage to property. With sufficient warning, temporary defences (sandbags, flood gates etc) can also be installed, and river control structures operated to mitigate the effects of flooding. Many countries and local authorities now operate some form of flood warning system, and the underlying technology requires knowledge across a range of technical areas, including rainfall and tidal detection systems, river and coastal flood forecasting models, flood warning dissemination systems, and emergency response procedures. This book provides a comprehensive account of the flood forecasting, warning and emergency response process, including techniques for predicting the development of flood events, and for issuing appropriate warnings. Related topics, such as telemetry and information systems, and flood warning economics, are also discussed. For perhaps the first time, this book brings together in a single volume the many strands of this interesting multidisciplinary topic, and will serve as a reference for researchers, policy makers and engineers. The material on meteorological, hydrological and coastal modelling and monitoring may also be of interest to a wider audience.

Book excerpt: Initial priorities for U.S. participation in the International Decade for Natural Disaster Reduction, declared by the United Nations, are contained in this volume. It focuses on seven issues: hazard and risk assessment; awareness and education; mitigation; preparedness for emergency response; recovery and reconstruction; prediction and warning; learning from disasters; and U.S. participation internationally. The committee presents its philosophy of calls for broad public and private participation to reduce the toll of disasters.

Book Transboundary Floods Reducing Risks Through Flood Management

Download or read book Transboundary Floods Reducing Risks Through Flood Management written by Jiri Marsalek and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-07-05 with total page 349 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These edited proceedings of the NATO Advanced Research Workshop detail the ongoing search for better ways of protecting human life, land, property and the environment by improved flood management. Such flood management is difficult enough in river basins controlled by a single authority, and becomes even more challenging when dealing with transboundary floods, which may originate in one country or jurisdiction and propagate downstream to another country, or jurisdiction.
