Book excerpt: This detailed volume compiles key methods and techniques used to establish some of the structural and functional aspects of Z-form nucleic acids. Beginning with chapters on characterizing Z-DNA, the book continues by exploring structure determination techniques, gene- and genome-targeting methods and genome-wide approaches, Z-RNA study, and much more. Written for the highly successful Methods in Molecular Biology series, chapters include introductions to their respective topics, lists of the necessary materials and reagents, step-by-step and readily reproducible laboratory protocols, and tips on troubleshooting and avoiding known pitfalls. Authoritative and practical, Z-DNA: Methods and Protocols serves as an ideal guide for students and researchers curious about this unique Z nucleic acid as an area of investigation, aiming to help the field grow, flourish, and unravel the hidden and novel roles of Z. Book Data Analysis and Optimization

Download or read book Data Analysis and Optimization written by Boris Goldengorin and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-09-23 with total page 447 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the state-of-the-art in the emerging field of data science and includes models for layered security with applications in the protection of sites—such as large gathering places—through high-stake decision-making tasks. Such tasks include cancer diagnostics, self-driving cars, and others where wrong decisions can possibly have catastrophic consequences. Additionally, this book provides readers with automated methods to analyze patterns and models for various types of data, with applications ranging from scientific discovery to business intelligence and analytics. The book primarily includes exploratory data analysis, pattern mining, clustering, and classification supported by real life case studies. The statistical section of this book explores the impact of data mining and modeling on the predictability assessment of time series. Further new notions of mean values based on ideas of multi-criteria optimization are compared with their conventional definitions, leading to new algorithmic approaches to the calculation of the suggested new means. The style of the written chapters and the provision of a broad yet in-depth overview of data mining, integrating novel concepts from machine learning and statistics, make the book accessible to upper level undergraduate and graduate students in data mining courses. Students and professionals specializing in computer and management science, data mining for high-dimensional data, complex graphs and networks will benefit from the cutting-edge ideas and practically motivated case studies in this book.

Book Flipons

    Book Details:
  • Author : Alan Herbert
  • Publisher :
  • Release : 2024-03
  • ISBN : 9781032731087
  • Pages : 0 pages

Download or read book Flipons written by Alan Herbert and published by . This book was released on 2024-03 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Alan Herbert has played a leading part in discovering the biological roles for a high-energy form of DNA twisted to the left rather than to the right. Both Z-DNA and the Z-RNA sensing proteins are critical for protecting hosts against both viruses and cancers. The proteins also play critical roles in the programmed cell death of aging cells. Other types of flipons exist and alter the readout of transcripts from the genome, encoding genetic information by their shape rather than by their sequence. Many of these flipons are within repeat elements that were previously considered to be just genomic junk. Instead these genetic elements increase the adaptability of cells by flipping DNA conformation. By acting as digital switches, the different flipon types can alter cellular responses without any change to their sequence or any damage to DNA. These highly dynamic structures enable the rapid evolution of multicellular organisms. The junk DNA in repeats also encode peptide patches that enable the assembly of cellular machines. The intransitive logic involved enhances the chance of an individual surviving a constantly changing environment. Key Features Causes us to rethink how information is encoded in the genome Changes our understanding of how our genome evolved and how we protect ourselves against viruses and cancers while sparing normal cells Shows that high energy forms of DNA, such as left-handed DNA do exist inside the cell Accessible to those in academia and the general public, and speaks to the next generation, encouraging them to find their own path in scientific discovery The Open Access version of this book, available at http: //www.taylorfrancis.com, has been made available under a Creative Commons Attribution-Non-Commercial-No Derivative License (CC-BY-NC-ND) 4.0 license.

Book Technology and Medicine

Download or read book Technology and Medicine written by Bengt Nielsen and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2023-10-03 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Taking a holistic approach, this book describes the developments in medicine and medical technology from ancient times to modern days. It is an exciting journey where readers will learn about the many great inventions by people that did not take the knowledge of their times as a fact. They challenged mysticism, beliefs, the religion, and the Church. They were true scientists long before we knew how to define what a scientist is. This book is, in a way, connecting the dots between the past and the future within healthcare. Features * Provides details on further developments that gave new and exceptional information for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes Gives the reader a new perspective and a common thread of life on medicine and MedTech as well as an improved understanding of how far we have come and how much there still is to work on before we fully understand the human body and its functionality Discusses and gives insight into ongoing research projects that could become clinically available in the future
