Book Flight Testing of a Luminescent Surface Pressure Sensor

Download or read book Flight Testing of a Luminescent Surface Pressure Sensor written by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-07-03 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: NASA ARC has conducted flight tests of a new type of aerodynamic pressure sensor based on a luminescent surface coating. Flights were conducted at the NASA ARC-Dryden Flight Research Facility. The luminescent pressure sensor is based on a surface coating which, when illuminated with ultraviolet light, emits visible light with an intensity dependent on the local air pressure on the surface. This technique makes it possible to obtain pressure data over the entire surface of an aircraft, as opposed to conventional instrumentation, which can only make measurements at pre-selected points. The objective of the flight tests was to evaluate the effectiveness and practicality of a luminescent pressure sensor in the actual flight environment. A luminescent pressure sensor was installed on a fin, the Flight Test Fixture (FTF), that is attached to the underside of an F-104 aircraft. The response of one particular surface coating was evaluated at low supersonic Mach numbers (M = 1.0-1.6) in order to provide an initial estimate of the sensor's capabilities. This memo describes the test approach, the techniques used, and the pressure sensor's behavior under flight conditions. A direct comparison between data provided by the luminescent pressure sensor and that produced by conventional pressure instrumentation shows that the luminescent sensor can provide quantitative data under flight conditions. However, the test results also show that the sensor has a number of limitations which must be addressed if this technique is to prove useful in the flight environment. Mclachlan, B. G. and Bell, J. Book Pressure and Temperature Sensitive Paints

Download or read book Pressure and Temperature Sensitive Paints written by Tianshu Liu and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-01-06 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Luminescent molecule sensors, called pressure-sensitive paint (PSP) and temperature-sensitive paint (TSP), measure factors essential for understanding the aerodynamic performance and heat transfer characteristics of flight vehicles. They provide a powerful tool for experimental aerodynamicists to obtain a deeper understanding of the rich physical phenomena in complex flows around a flight vehicle. This book helps the reader to understand the physics and chemistry and the capabilities of PSP and TSP. It provides an overview of the wide scope of applications and explains the system requirements for using these sensors. The book also includes an extensive table of properties of PTP and TSP. As such, it is a thorough and up-to-date coverage of the underlying physics and applications of luminescent molecules designed for global pressure and temperature mapping

Book Advanced In Flight Measurement Techniques

Download or read book Advanced In Flight Measurement Techniques written by Fritz Boden and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-02-13 with total page 347 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book presents a synopsis of the main results achieved during the 3 year EU-project "Advanced Inflight Measurement Techniques (AIM)" which applied advanced image based measurement techniques to industrial flight testing. The book is intended to be not only an overview on the AIM activities but also a guide on the application of advanced optical measurement techniques for future flight testing. Furthermore it is a useful guide for engineers in the field of experimental methods and flight testing who face the challenge of a future requirement for the development of highly accurate non-intrusive in-flight measurement techniques.

Book Noble Metal Metal Oxide Hybrid Nanoparticles

Download or read book Noble Metal Metal Oxide Hybrid Nanoparticles written by Satyabrata Mohapatra and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2018-10-11 with total page 674 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Noble Metal-Metal Oxide Hybrid Nanoparticles: Fundamentals and Applications sets out concepts and emerging applications of hybrid nanoparticles in biomedicine, antibacterial, energy storage and electronics. The hybridization of noble metals (Gold, Silver, Palladium and Platinum) with metal-oxide nanoparticles exhibits superior features when compared to individual nanoparticles. In some cases, metal oxides act as semiconductors, such as nano zinc oxide or titanium oxide nanoparticles, where their hybridization with silver nanoparticles, enhanced significantly their photocatalytic efficiency. The book highlights how such nanomaterials are used for practical applications. Examines the properties of metal-metal oxide hybrid nanoparticles that make them so adaptable Explores the mechanisms by which nanoparticles interact with each other, showing how these can be exploited for practical applications Shows how metal oxide hybrid nanomaterials are used in a range of industry sectors, including energy, the environment and healthcare
