Download or read book Mountain Canyon and Backcountry Flying written by Amy L. Hoover and published by Aviation Supplies & Academics. This book was released on 2019 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "For more than a century, pilots have been intrigued by the challenges of flight in the highest mountains and the deepest canyons on every continent. Mountain, canyon, and backcountry flying allows pilots to get off the beaten path and enjoy the outdoors. It opens up a whole new world of recreation. Activities include airplane camping, hiking, fishing, and staying at guest lodges or bush camps in areas where there may not be roads or easy access either by land or water. Flying in these enticing environments often entail operations over relatively inaccessible terrain, and necessitates a mindset, discipline, and procedures necessary to operate efficiently and safely in a challenging and sometimes unforgiving environment. Operating over mountains, navigating through canyons, taking off and landing on unimproved, high altitude airstrips in confined areas, and maximizing airplane performance requires specialized skills. The authors and guest writers share information and tips gleaned from more than 150 years and 100,000 hours of collective experience as professional mountain and backcountry pilots and flight instructors. Recreational pilots to mountain flying instructors will find this book useful. Fundamental concepts include preparing for and conducting mountain and canyon flights, airport operations, situational awareness and emergency operations. Analysis of accident scenarios, accounts from the authors' own experiences, and contributions from seasoned backcountry pilots and instructors expand on material detailed in the text. Each chapter includes exercises to help the reader understand and apply the information to their own flying and beautiful illustrations to inspire pilots to seek out these awe-inspiring destinations."--Provided by publisher.
Download or read book Crash of TWA Flight 260 written by Charles M. Williams and published by UNM Press. This book was released on 2010-08-16 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This moment-by-moment account of a major airplane crash on a beautiful and treacherous mountainside puts the reader at the pilot's side, describing the flight, its catastrophic ending, and the aftermath. At 7:05 a.m. on February 19, 1955, TWA Flight 260 took off from the Albuquerque airport for a short flight to Santa Fe. To avoid flying over the Sandia Mountains, the plane's approved air route was a dogleg running north-northwest from Albuquerque, then east-northeast into Santa Fe. But at 7:08 a.m. Flight 260 was headed directly toward Sandia Ridge, almost entirely obscured by storm clouds. A local resident who saw Flight 260 overhead observed that if the plane was eastbound, it was too low; if it was northbound, it was off course. At 7:12 a.m. the plane's terrain-warning bell sounded its alarm. Both pilots saw the sheer west face of the Sandias just beyond the right wingtip––an appalling shock considering they should have been ten miles further west. Reacting instantly, they rolled the plane steeply to the left, pulled its nose up, and started to level the wings. It was their final act. Hidden by the storm, another cliffside lay directly ahead. When they struck it, they were still in a left bank, nose high.

Decision A mission at the top secret Razorpeak Mountain Complex has completely flipped Ciara’s life upside down. Daughter of an intuitive and a bear shifter descendant, Ciara is an intuitive herself. And she has a problem she can’t explain and definitely can’t solve. Ciara hadn’t counted on her cousin Griz, driven by concern, stopping at nothing to help out his little cousin. Krisztián’s been asked to assist Griz’s cousin with a problem. What problem? Griz doesn’t even know. So, with a GPS set for her home, Krisztián heads out. Possession Shifter Slate Youngblood’s got one mission. Stay alive and avoid the feds. Svetlana’s a seer with a haunted past. A skilljacker on the lam runs into a beautiful, haunted seer. On any other day, this could have been a match made in heaven, but not when he steals her skills. And definitely not when she takes his bear. Sure, he lives in Bear Canyon Valley, and he’s got freedoms he never had before, but his dragon is angry. He misses their home country. What’s a dragon shifter to do when shifting into his dragon—and running off is not an option. Not in a world where dragons are hunted. When did the apex predator of all shifter types become the hunted? He gives his dragon his head and they roam, flying over Bear Canyon Valley regularly. This day was anything but regular though. He’s come across a beautiful stranger with a problem. He’d have thought he could provide help until he had a problem of his own. Stuck mid-shift, he finds himself at her mercy and at the mercy of those hunting her. Jolie Anker’s harboring a secret that could bring doom to the Bear Canyon Valley clan. Impression Salvatore Draecen has received word about a sorceress being held captive in Crossroads. A sorceress, that word has it, looks way too much like the love of his life. Selene Campione has been a prisoner for more years than she can count. Truly. More years than she can remember. Devoid of her powers and memories, she’s been in a muddled state of mind, the victim of experimentation at the hands of the group at Crossroads. Now, as fate would have it, her powers are returning. And so are the painful memories. The last time she saw Salvatore, he was on another continent, safe and sound.
