Book Subsonic Flight Investigation of Methods to Improve the Damping of Lateral Oscillations by Means of a Viscous Damper in the Rudder System in Conjuction with Adjusted Hinge moment Parameters

Download or read book Subsonic Flight Investigation of Methods to Improve the Damping of Lateral Oscillations by Means of a Viscous Damper in the Rudder System in Conjuction with Adjusted Hinge moment Parameters written by Harold L. Crane and published by . This book was released on 1958 with total page 654 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A flight investigation at subsonic speeds of a method to improve the damping of lateral oscillations by means of a viscous damping cylinder used in the rudder system in conjunction with adjusted hinge-moment parameters has been conducted. The damping device has been applied to a modern fighter-type jet-powered airplane. The rudder was made to float with the relative wind by the addition of trailing-edge strips. In order to amplify the floating tendency (by reducing the restoring moment), a highly geared balancing tab was incorporated. Lag of the motion of the free rudder with respect to the yawing of the airplane was introduced by means of a small viscous damping cylinder linked to the rudder.

Book Hypersonic and High Temperature Gas Dynamics

Download or read book Hypersonic and High Temperature Gas Dynamics written by John David Anderson and published by AIAA. This book was released on 1989 with total page 710 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a self-contained text for those students and readers interested in learning hypersonic flow and high-temperature gas dynamics. It assumes no prior familiarity with either subject on the part of the reader. If you have never studied hypersonic and/or high-temperature gas dynamics before, and if you have never worked extensively in the area, then this book is for you. On the other hand, if you have worked and/or are working in these areas, and you want a cohesive presentation of the fundamentals, a development of important theory and techniques, a discussion of the salient results with emphasis on the physical aspects, and a presentation of modern thinking in these areas, then this book is also for you. In other words, this book is designed for two roles: 1) as an effective classroom text that can be used with ease by the instructor, and understood with ease by the student; and 2) as a viable, professional working tool for engineers, scientists, and managers who have any contact in their jobs with hypersonic and/or high-temperature flow.

Download or read book Intake Aerodynamics written by J. Seddon and published by AIAA (American Institute of Aeronautics & Astronautics). This book was released on 1999 with total page 440 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Intake Aerodynamics, Second Edition" presents computational advancements and discoveries in intake aerodynamics. A companion volume to "Practical Intake Aerodynamic Design," this important text considers the problem of airflow, both internal and external to air intake, as applied to civil and military aircraft. It covers the aerodynamics of subsonic and supersonic intakes in real flows, maintaining a progression through the transonic range. Also considered is the joint perspective of the airframe designer and the propulsion specialist in practical cases. Readers will gain insight into the fluid mechanics behind the deceleration of air from free stream to engine velocity, and an understanding of air compression and external drag in extensively revised chapters reflecting progress in the field. More than 300 drawings and diagrams help to illustrate the points defined throughout the book. Copublished with Blackwell Science Ltd. Book Aerodynamics Aeronautics and Flight Mechanics

Download or read book Aerodynamics Aeronautics and Flight Mechanics written by Barnes W. McCormick and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 1994-09-28 with total page 677 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A New Edition of the Most Effective Text/Reference in the Field! Aerodynamics, Aeronautics, and Flight Mechanics, Second Edition Barnes W. McCormick, Pennsylvania State University 57506-2 When the first edition of Aerodynamics, Aeronautics, and Flight Mechanics was published, it quickly became one of the most important teaching and reference tools in the field. Not only did generations of students learn from it, they continue to use it on the job-the first edition remains one of the most well-thumbed guides you'll find in an airplane company. Now this classic text/reference is available in a bold new edition. All new material and the interweaving of the computer throughout make the Second Edition even more practical and current than before! A New Edition as Complete and Applied as the First Both analytical and applied in nature, Aerodynamics, Aeronautics, and Flight Mechanics presents all necessary derivations to understand basic principles and then applies this material to specific examples. You'll find complete coverage of the full range of topics, from aerodynamics to propulsion to performance to stability and control. Plus, the new Second Edition boasts the same careful integration of concepts that was an acclaimed feature of the previous edition. For example, Chapters 9, 10, and 11 give a fully integrated presentation of static, dynamic, and automatic stability and control. These three chapters form the basis of a complete course on stability and control. New Features You'll Find in the Second Edition * A new chapter on helicopter and V/STOL aircraft- introduces a phase of aerodynamics not covered in most current texts * Even more material than the previous edition, including coverage of stealth airplanes and delta wings * Extensive use of the computer throughout- each chapter now contains several computer exercises * A computer disk with programs written by the author is available

Book Shock Wave Boundary Layer Interactions

Download or read book Shock Wave Boundary Layer Interactions written by Holger Babinsky and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2011-09-12 with total page 481 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Shock wave-boundary-layer interaction (SBLI) is a fundamental phenomenon in gas dynamics that is observed in many practical situations, ranging from transonic aircraft wings to hypersonic vehicles and engines. SBLIs have the potential to pose serious problems in a flowfield; hence they often prove to be a critical - or even design limiting - issue for many aerospace applications. This is the first book devoted solely to a comprehensive, state-of-the-art explanation of this phenomenon. It includes a description of the basic fluid mechanics of SBLIs plus contributions from leading international experts who share their insight into their physics and the impact they have in practical flow situations. This book is for practitioners and graduate students in aerodynamics who wish to familiarize themselves with all aspects of SBLI flows. It is a valuable resource for specialists because it compiles experimental, computational and theoretical knowledge in one place.
