Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: He’d do anything for a second chance. Could her secrets and haunted past allow him back in? Fletcher’s Pride, Book Eight, MacLarens of Boundary Mountain Historical Western Romance Series Fletcher MacLaren lives a charmed life. He works hard and plays even harder. Handsome with an easy smile, he hasn’t considered settling down. Not until his gaze lands on the loveliest woman he’s ever seen. Creamy skin, golden blonde hair, and blue eyes so deep and clear, they sparkle. The first time he saw her, slowly descending the stairs of the saloon, she captured every man’s attention. Madeleine Colbert shouldn’t want the tall, ridiculously attractive rancher whose heated gaze burns right through her. A haunted past and inability to stay in one place for long doesn’t bode well for any kind of relationship. And her job in the saloon isn’t what a respectable cowboy would consider suitable for anything other than a few fiery moments. He can’t get her out of his mind. Fletch spends his days thinking of Maddy and his nights visiting the intriguing woman, until he needs her more than his next breath. But one short discussion with his father changes everything. The note he sends cuts clean through, causing her heart to crack. Knowing he’ll never return, and with ruthless outlaws tracking her, Maddy makes the only decision possible. She runs. Returning after several months, Fletcher’s first thought is of Maddy. The time away has been miserable. All he wants is to make amends and continue with what they had before he left. For the first time in his life, he learns what it’s like to not get what he wants. Hardship continues to plague Maddy. When the outlaws discover her new location, she finds herself on the run again, returning to Conviction. But not to the man she loves. She may have outrun the people chasing her, but it doesn’t mean she’s escaped the one man who offers nothing except another broken heart. And now, Maddy is hiding her biggest secret of all. Fletcher’s Pride, book eight in the MacLarens of Boundary Mountain Historical Western Romance Series, is a stand-alone, full-length novel with an HEA and no cliffhanger. Book The Arts of Disruption

Download or read book The Arts of Disruption written by Nicolette Zeeman and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 2020-06-18 with total page 449 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The monograph series Oxford Studies in Medieval Literature and Culture showcases the plurilingual and multicultural quality of medieval literature and actively seeks to promote research that not only focuses on the array of subjects medievalists now pursue - in literature, theology, and philosophy, in social, political, jurisprudential, and intellectual history, the history of art, and the history of science - but also that combines these subjects productively. It offers innovative studies on topics that may include, but are not limited to, manuscript and book history; languages and literatures of the global Middle Ages; race and the post-colonial; the digital humanities, media and performance; music; medicine; the history of affect and the emotions; the literature and practices of devotion; the theory and history of gender and sexuality, ecocriticism and the environment; theories of aesthetics; medievalism. The Arts of Disruption: Allegory and Piers Plowman offers a series of new readings of the allegorical poem Piers Plowman: but it is also a book about allegory. It argues not just that there are distinctively disruptive 'arts' that occur in allegory, but that allegory, because it is interested in the difficulty of making meaning, is itself a disruptive art. The book approaches this topic via the study of five medieval allegorical narrative structures that exploit diegetic conflict and disruption. Although very different, they all bring together contrasting descriptions of spiritual process, in order to develop new understanding and excite moral or devotional change. These five structures are: the paradiastolic 'hypocritical figure' (such as vices masked by being made to look like 'adjacent' virtues), personification debate, violent language and gestures of apophasis, narratives of bodily decline, and grail romance. Each appears in a range of texts, which the book explores, along with other connected materials in medieval rhetoric, logic, grammar, spiritual thought, ethics, medicine, and romance iconography. These allegorical narrative structures appear radically transformed in Piers Plowman, where the poem makes further meaning out of the friction between them. Much of the allegorical work of the poem occurs at the points of their intersection, and within the conceptual gaps that open up between them. Ranging across a wide variety of medieval allegorical texts, the book shows from many perspectives allegory's juxtaposition of the heterogeneous and its questioning of supposed continuities.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Welcome to the club, Manchester legend DJ Paulette shares the highs, lows and lessons of a thirty-year music career, with help from some famous friends. One of the Haçienda’s first female DJs, Paulette has scaled the heights of the music industry, playing to crowds of thousands all around the world, and descended to the lows of being unceremoniously benched by COVID-19, with no chance of furlough and little support from the government. Here she tells her story, offering a remarkable view of the music industry from a Black woman’s perspective. Behind the core values of peace, love, unity and respect, dance music is a world of exclusion, misogyny, racism and classism. But, as Paulette reveals, it is also a space bursting at the seams with powerful women. Part personal account, part call to arms, Welcome to the club exposes the exclusivity of the music industry while seeking to do justice to the often invisible women who keep the beat going.

Book The Hamilton Fletcher Murder

Download or read book The Hamilton Fletcher Murder written by Robert Fitton and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2008-06-23 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Who is Matthias Jones and what is he doing here? Jones is not a forensic expert or a crackerjack private investigator. He does not possess overwhelming analytical abilities and relies on hunches called side road theories. Jones does not seek to solve murder cases, but is inexorably drawn into the accumulating evidence. The people that drop into his murder investigations appear to be bumblers and are terribly annoying, yet they contribute surprisingly cogent assessments of the crime. When the Fletcher patriarch is murdered, Jones suspects Fletcher's only daughter, the Fletcher company controller, and Thurmond, a wild, gun-toting neighbor.
